I heard Cockburn is interested in Kentucky and so is Marcus Carr. Carr might be going to Louisville considering the backcourt depth of the Wildcats. Wise decision by Ogbagi in returning to school, better his chances of getting drafted . I don’t see much improvement he can do to his game besides becoming more efficient.

Cockburn seems like he is coming back to college with avengeance. I could see him going on some tyrade and winning POY. He’s angry about his prospect reviews. I hope he does go to Kentucky, or some good program. Kentucky is the place to transfer though.

Well if he wants to win Player of the Year maybe Kentucky isn’t the best place for him to go. Cal isn’t really known for letting his bigs rack up minutes.

I think the big thing that some people are forgetting is that the new NIL rules make Kentucky an incredibly desirable spot to be right now due to their national profile. Kofi was ready to start making money playing basketball, and when things weren’t playing out like he thought they might in the draft, he turned his attention to which schools can make him the most money. I think he would have loved to return to Illinois if they were returning what they had last year, but they could end up being pretty lousy with how much production left. There are going to be plenty of NIL deals for the Kentucky players, even if they have to platoon like D Book and KAT’s year.

I will point out, though, that things haven’t worked out very well for the transfer bigs UK has brought in recently. Reid Travis, Nate Sestina, and Olivier Sarr were all expected to do much much more in Lexington than they ultimately did.

but to be fair, Kofi Cockburn is already a former POY candidate who outplayed the last POY and has the same body as Wilt. And he seems to have the desire to get better going by his reaction of coming back to school. Cockburn is not Reid Travis or Nate Sestina or Olivier Sarr or any other scrub jay big they produced. Not saying he’s KAT but he’s on another level. Cockburn is also a little older and more polished than those types of players. He might get his minutes cut a little because Kentucky is going to be deep with their transfers next year. But he’ll be much more impactful then those players if he lands in Kentucky. The new NIL rules are much more fluent and those desired schools are going to have an advantage sure. They better the way the NCAA is getting competition now from other pro clubs.

I have to believe that Cockburn will make more in NIL at Illinois or Kentucky than he would in the G League, but I think the door is shut for a national title at Illinois without Dosunmu, Adam Miller, and Giorgi Bezhanishvili. If Kentucky gets Cockburn, it will be a really veteran roster with Kellan Grady, CJ Fredrick, Sahvir Wheeler, Oscar Tshiebwe, and Davion Mintz. Mix in a couple 5 stars, and they get to contender status quickly.
