Not much chatter on here about it. I have a few thoughts:
1. I love Anthony Davis and think he is a phenomenal basketball player. Hard for me to see knowing what we know now, that they would still take him over Lebron in starting a franchise. I guess the jury is still out because of how young AD is.
2. Interesting that Ben Simmons is not even in the top 5 voted "best international player" not in the NBA.
3. Joakim Noah fell off the face of the earth in a lot of the defensive votes.
4. No votes for Derrick Rose for most athletic player in the NBA. Sad for me.
5. I am a little shocked at Ty Lawson (albeit I am a UNC homer) not getting any votes for best passer (not shocked that wasn’t voted number 1). You look at the fact he averaged 9.6 assists a game, which is impressive, then you look at who he was passing to and that makes it even more impressive.
Thoughts?

giddyup123Participant1. AD is 22, Lebron is 30. Starting a franchise, you gotta take the guy that is already a Top 5 guy in the league with at least 10 more peak years (not even considering the growth he’ll still make) than the one that is now (athletically) towards the end of his peak, even if that is LBJ.
2. My guess is that most GM’s didn’t really think about Ben Simmons as an "international player" per se because (a) he played 3 years of high school bball in the US and is now in NCAAB. Sorta like that rather stupid nbadraft article a few weeks ago that considered Tim Duncan and Patrick Ewing, among others, as "international" when noone really thinks of them as that (for various reasons like playing on the USA bball team and going to college in the USA). While technically they are, I believe most GMs refer to international players as guys playing professionally overseas… otherwise Ben Simmons probably would have gotten a lot more of those votes. Secondly, he’s only 18/19 so its hard to argue he is "better" than someo the more tenured guys in those leagues..
3. I am very curious to see Joakim Noah’s impact on the Bulls this year. With such a deep, versatile front court and a new coach that praises offensive versatility (not that Noah’s not a phenomonal passer for a big man), it’ll be interesting to see if him (and D-Rose, with the injury concerns) are in their plans moving forward.
5. Similar to this point ^, very curious to see how Ty Lawson goes from being the #1 option and ball-dominant guard to the #3 option and playing off the ball far more. Gotta imagine unless his 3P% and defense have improved, he might be in for a real "getting exposed" type season. Hope that he does well though!

ChewyParticipant3. Noah did fall off on the voting, but for good reason. He had a rough year last year. Just imagine how dominate a Noah/Pau front line would have been 6 years ago! Now they can’t even start together because they can’t guard the 4’s.
4. Should be Westbrook, with an honorable mention to Lavine. Honorable mention to Blake Griffin if you want power over straight hops and speed. But I agree it’s sad. I wish Rose was at least still in the conversation.

Robb_CParticipantYa Mirotic and Gasol are going to be starting at the 4 and 5 respectively.. Holberg needs a backup center and Noah fits the bill..

llperezncballer, you admit you are not shocked lawson was not #1 but you believe that some GM’s should believe he is #1? Its not like they vote top 5, they vote for 1 guy they believe to be #1. WOuld you say lawson is the best passer in the nba? If not how can you be shocked that no gm’s feel he is?

ncballerLet me phrase it better. I am shocked he didn’t get a single vote after averaging 9.6 assists passing to the roster he had. He was number 3 in the league in assists and look at who he was passing to.

khaled_a_dParticipantEven if you consider Ben Simmons an international player ,he shouldn’t be in the top
This belongs to guys like Teodosic ,still can’t get why GMs always answer with the best drafted prospect or eligible for next draft prospect .that isn’t the question tbh .
Simmons might have the best future as NBA player ,but now there are many better0 - Posted on: Wed, 10/21/2015 - 5:21pm #1019542

ChewyParticipantPeople nowadays seem to forget that there is a difference between "talent/ability" and "potential talent/ability." Plenty of grown men I would take over Ben if I needed to win a game tomorrow.

Rip256There’s guys in Europe that could whoop Ben Simmons right now. He’d get eaten alive in a Euroleague final.
