BleedGreen808ParticipantAccording to Woj: Milwaukee Bucks forward Giannis Antetokounmpo has agreed on a four-year, $100M contract extension, league sources tell @TheVertical.
Apparently this is less than the max he could have made and there are no options included in the deal. I’m shocked that the Bucks managed to lock him up for less than max.

zcnumerounoParticipantMaybe a hometown discount of sorts? Giannis seems to like it in Milwaukee, the team that drafted him, and looks like he just cut them a deal (that… or he has a terrible agent). Great move for Milwaukee! Fear the Deer!

publius2481ParticipantIf he played as good as he did last season, some team would have offered him the max (and my guess is he will continue to improve), so this was a smart deal. With both him and Middleton locked up and Jabari likely to sign an extension, the Bucks get to keep their young core together. Plus, even though it is small a slight discount combined with Middleton’s very good contract gives the Bucks the ability to bring some talent in around their young three. They are a team to watch over the next few years.

HitsterParticipantWith the new mega deals in place this is still a huge rookie deal and gives the Freak financial security. Thought they might have looked to get him tied up for 5 years unless they are keeping that option for Jabari. Any move to lock him up long term is a great move, so win-win for both sides.

publius2481ParticipantThey are definitely keeping the five year for Parker. Not sure if it is the smart move or not (I like both players), but I think it is understandable.

tblazer_NZParticipantIt is $6m less than what McCollum got and he has produced for longer than McCollum has + he has so much more potential.

Hype MachineA lot of Americans are shocked when a foreign player leaves a single cent on the table.
But individuals from other backgrounds are often less motivated by money. In other words, they are easier to negotiate with. Americans players are super touchy about how their salary reflects their status. Its a cultural thing. Everyone wants to get paid the most simply for their ego.
Check John Walls comments about Reggie Jackson. Didn’t Durant just make a comment on Harrison Barnes new deal? Shame. Shame! Shame!!!
There are examples of Americans like David West taking cuts for selfless reasons, but mostly its foreign players doing it that are easy-going and consider themselves rich regardless.
Nowitzki, all the Spurs and now Greek Freak are just some examples.

BleedGreen808ParticipantI guess you can frame it that way. I was just surprised because with the current market there was no doubt he’d get a max offer. It’s also uncommon for a young player (Giannis being 21)to take less to help keep a core together. I respect the heck out of Dirk and Spurs players for taking pay cuts. Looking up Dirk’s career earnings he’s still the 3rd highest paid player of all time behind KG and Kobe with over 216million. That does not include the 50million he is owed over this season and the next.
