themidnightriderParticipantI need to preview this post by saying that I am a Duke student and a huge Blue Devil fan. That being said…do people think G is ready to succeed in the NBA? By succeed I mean lock down the starting SG role on any team.
I love the guy and he carries our team, but I just see so many flaws in his game offensively-
1. He has amazing strength, but average speed. He usually uses his body to get past his defender, which works fine at the college level, but won’t work in the pros.
2. He lacks the handles to displace the defender’s feet and therefore has to rely on that same body strength I was talking about.
3. His midrange game is getting much better and he can get his own shot anywhere on the court…but he will never be a pure shooter like his friend Ellington at that other shitty school. So he will have to get consistent enough with his jumper to open up driving lanes for him, but I’m not sure he is quite there yet. He has an awkward motion with his right elbow when he shoots (anyone else notice that?).
4. I’m not sure he has a left hand.Defensively he is good, overrated a little bit I think, but he will be a little undersized at the next level (6-4/5 depending on who is talking). I’ve stood next to the guy and he is built solidly but a little short for the pros at his position I think. Just a little.
All that aside, he is the most athletic/explosive player in the country, with respect to DeRozan. But after what I’ve seen in the tournament so far (volume shooting, inability to score against BINGHAMPTON..???) I’m not investing millions of dollars in him as a GM.
What does everyone think? Any chance my boy stays another year?

gberg23Definitely not even close athletically to DeRozan, and yeah I agree with all your points. He settles for fadeaways way too much too, even when it isn’t needed. Still a lottery pick though in my opinion.

themidnightriderParticipantThats ridiculous. Henderson flexes his calves and all of the sudden his head is above the basket. Remember that DeRozan is taller than him too; Henderson’s leaping ability for his size is definitely superior. Speed goes to DeRozan though. Strength is probably divided; Henderson is much better built, but he is just smaller.
I agree that G forces too many shots…tryin to be like Kobe. Guess I would too.

jorrye24You have to be impressed with his athleticism,he is a good dunker. He has a nice midrange game. He looks like a good offensive player, but you have to be inpressed with his athleticism

BRoy-7I really like his game hes underrated. He is very athletic which also means a good dunker and finisher. I like his hustle and i think he will be a solid pick up for any team

gberg23Okay your right, it is pretty close. DeRozan still wins though, vert, speed, quickness whatever.

D7H7NParticipantHenderson’s not a bad player, although I can’t picture him being a Superstar in the NBA. He may be a good role-player though, probably a defensive-specialist.
Still a lottery pick though

michaelds911ParticipantLike I said in the previous post about G, I can easily see him doing what Richard Jefferson does night in night out

Iceman913ParticipantHe matchs his athletic ability, his midrange game is right there and he has probably more potential as an outside shooter but shoots better off the dribble than spot up. He has his way no matter who is on him even if he doesnt have the quickest first step he is on of the best finishers through contact ive seen since Carter. Did anyone see him dunk on Texas’ 6’10 Chapman who had his hand on his arm and the ball and Henderson still put it through….If he gets a better a handle and spot up shot i could see him averaging 20 a game for his career but if u compare his flaws to any other wing in this class it just isnt even close i mean even Harden.

ncballerI think he is extremely physically gifted. He has a super high basketball IQ, but his ball handling is just laughable at best. If you overplay his right hand, he is negated from a star to a roleplayer. I see him in the NBA as somewhere inbetween Dahntay Jones and Richard Jefferson. A great defender that averages 12-16 ppg.
