PhillytheKidSo the Sixers don’t get him. He’s pretty much reached his ceiling. What you see is what you get. Good luck with that, Cleveland Cavs.

juves4783Participantharris hits his peak at 20 years old????? haha, get out of here with that. and why would the cavs draft him? they give up on waiters? they are in prime spot to get that sf they’ve always been looking for since missing out on harrison barnes because there’s no way that deng is staying.
another interesting item. alford cuts lavine’s minutes in the pac-12 tournamet and they win the whole thing. guess you were right, alford has been misplaying him. he should of been on the bench more…

RUDEBOY_ParticipantI heard Jay Williams the other night say that he believes Harris is a top 5 pick…Harris is a little overrated..While people are undervaluing his teammate Andreian Payne…I think Payne will turn out to be the better nba player…

Memphis MadnessParticipantPayne still looks beat up to me. He moves (and looks) like an older Jamal Magloire.
If healthy, Payne will be a good player. He has "rotation big man" written all over him.

SpartanGloryParticipantPhillythekid keeps hating on Harris and his ceiling, yet pushes for the Sixers to draft McDermott. Makes perfect sense. Harris played in the second best conference in the country and is possibly the best offensive and defensive gaurds in the league! I’d love to have him on my team if I’m drafting 7-12. He’s totally overlooked nationally.
Payne still has good upside despite being a senior. He might not be a starter but hell get minutes and contribute. He also has a definite position in the league which someone like McDermott does not have.

juves4783Participantmuch like my fiance, phillythekid is consistently inconsistent.
i don’t think anything was worse than when i read philly should draft embiid because hinke is a defensive minded gm. then i read that jabari parker should play sg with mcdermott at sf. wow…
the gary harris hate is perplexing too. then when he talks up lavine, it’s all what he sees in his head with no stats or anything to back it up. and when he does get into a tight bind, he’ll argue that he’s the only one that thought kevin durant was going to be special…

KHAM83ParticipantI don’t think Harris will be a star, but he can definitely be a great and important role player for a great team. Not a Sixers fan, but regardless of who you take with your first pick, assuming you have the Pelican’s, getting Harris with the second lottery pick, and pairing him with MCW is a huge win for you. You cannot keep building on potential. MCW and Noel were potential picks. It’s not a bad idea to bring in someone like a Harris to this team.

For_Never_EverParticipantNobody ever said Harris will be a star. However, everyone keeps saying he is overrated, also I don’t know what people see in him.
I don’t see the issue that people are having since he was never slated to be picked in the top 5. He will get drafted anywhere around 10 to 20. That is perfectly reasonable for what he does and bring.

SpartanGloryParticipantTo find out what people see in him as far as being a lottery pick, you should try watching him play more often, if you do at all. He has a mid and long range game that are NBA ready. He plays lockdown defense on the opposing teams best perimeter player, an averages close to 2 steals a game. He also has underrated athletisizm, and can slice through defenses and throw it down. Watch the last play of the first half against Michigan in the big ten tourney for an example. He doesn’t really have star potential, but I think he’ll be better than his comparison, OJ Mayo.

juves4783Participanti think you nailed it. there are a couple stars in each draft (maybe a few more in this years’). if you can come out of it with a servicable starter or even big minute role player outside of the star players, i would say your draft was successful. i think gary harris will be a guy that can give starter quality minutes wheter off the bench or as a starter.

For_Never_EverParticipantI have no doubt Garry Harris is a starting caliber player. I think people are having an issue because he doesn’t bring in the potential factor like James Young. Who has all the potential, but is more than likely never going to reach it. The hope of the mystery box turning out to be gold is more alluring then the sure thing.

Ghost01ParticipantI hope Young fulfills whatever potential he has, because right now, between he and the other 2 SGs in the lottery, he’s been by far the number 3:
Young: 14.5 PPG, 40.4/34.1/68.6 FG/3PT/FT. 1.9 APG, 4.1 RPG, 16.6 PER, .533 TS%
Harris: 17.1 PPG, 42.3/35.1/35.1 FG/3PT/FT. 2.7 APG, 4.2 RPG, 23.2 PER, .554 TS%
Hood: 16.4 PPG, 47.0/42.1/80.7 FG/3PT/FT. 2.1 APG, 3.9 RPG, 20.7 PER, .596 TS%

PhillytheKidYou’re right I partially go by the seeing eye test. I look at skill and athleticism. When I see Lavine’s shot….I am infused with promise. I also see Lavine being just as good a defender as Harris….because of his length…he’s also taller and longer….and btw, he is insanely athletic…and that is something Harris doesn’t have.
I’ve just seen Harris all year and I’ve seen him at Nike Hoops Summit and he doesn’t have any aspect of his game that stands out, there is no wow-factor there. He is solid and he will be a good player, will he be more dependable than Lavine?
I dont’ think so, not in the NBA with more spacing and where guys like Russel Westbrook, who have low bball IQ, dominate simply due to their athleticism. What makes you all think Lavine could not be Westbrook? He already has a much better shot, and appears to be every bit as athletic.
I have to knock Gary Harris, who I think will be Corey Brewer with a better head on his shoulders, in order to exhibit the beautiful potential of a Zach Lavine. I’m not alone with this opinion. Sorry.

SpartanGloryParticipantNothing you said about Harris made any sense at all. Corey brewer… REALLY?? I don’t really think you know that much about basketball and especially young prospects. Lavine has potential but there’s no garauntee that he lives up to it. The only thing that stands out for Lavine compared to Harris is his athletisizm. Everything else Harris has the edge. You can make an argument for three point shooting but that’s it. Oh and your potential that you see through your "eye test", which Harris has plenty of himself.
