CavFanPRParticipantCleveland trades Kyrie Irving for the #1 pick in the 2014 NBA draft. When I get into this discussion with my friends, they all go: Are you crazy?!? Kyrie Irving for a draft pick!?? He’s the best player on that team! Most of them don’t agree that the general manager of Cleveland should pull the trigger and trade Kyrie on draft night.
I think they should consider it for many reasons. First, While I do agree that trading established stars for draft picks is risky (Andre Miller for Darius Miles, Ron Harper for Danny Ferry come to mind) I think this is a different situation. First, Kyrie Irving has the ability to turn down a contract offer from Cleveland and become a free agent next year. That would be a big blow to Cleveland as they went through a similar situation in 2010 in the infamous “Decision”.
Kyrie’s camp has stated multiple times that Kyrie wants to play elsewhere, preferably in a big market type of team.
As a Cleveland fan, I would support this. I think having the #1 pick in a deep draft is worth the risk of giving up a rising star. Some experts will claim that Kyrie isn’t enough for the #1 pick. What are your thoughts on that?

I also don’t like your thinking about trading Kyrie just because there are rumors from nowhere that he might opt out. This is just silly and post Lebron hysteria.
However, just as a bit of fun, I was thinking this too. I would actually trade Kyrie for Embiid if I could. I think Emiid could be the next great big. Just has all the attributes and a high level of skill with huge size, also to mention he is only new to the game so has heaps more to learn.
In all reality, I would be much more hesitant. He is not just a rising star, he is a star atm. He has had a tough year with people really giving to him but he just turned 22, so he has heaps of room to grow and reach superstardom

TheArtistPaysthePriceParticipantKyrie is playing for Team USA and has so many commitments. I think he has to sign the extension before he plays or risk injury like Blake Griffin did in Team Camp. If he waits and gets banged up then he loses leverage.

TheArtistPaysthePriceParticipantHe can only be a restricted free agent. That’s one h3lluva difference. If he doesn’t sign the extension then don’t sign him to a shorter K. Love deal, just let him go into restricted free agency and match or stand pat and trade him then.
Really neither Kyrie nor the Cav’s have to make a decision this summer. They can make one in October or wait till the end of next season. The Cavs would be giving up two seasons that he would make like seven million a piece in if he is traded this summer. Why not wait till at least next draft if not half way through his pending unrestricted year.
For the record, a number 1 in 2014 alone is not enough for Kyrie Irving. Personally I would need MCW and a number 1. Regardless of how good Kyrie really is, he is a bonafide star. He never had lower than a 20 PER and he bring millions of dollars as an attraction in ticket, jersey sales and other revenue streams.

They gotta show they are committed to a plan towards building a successful organization to attract more like minded people to the organization and keep talent within it.

If you don’t believe in Joel, what do you think about Wiggins? If he’s going to be a Rudy Gay type player like a lot of people seem to be saying, then you’ll probably want to keep Kyrie.
Maybe you’re thinking about Jabari Parker instead. Is he a Carmelo type player? If so, then that’s a decision that many would be split on . Truthfully, I’ll take Kyrie over Melo any day.
In my opinion, I would only trade him for the top pick if I did a lot of scouting on Embiid and felt like he’s a can’t miss prospect.
