    From Marc Stein’s twitter:

"Rising belief around NBA that some sort of franchise tag on way, along w/Melo’s open lust for extension by June 30, changing tune out there"

For those that don’t know what franchise tag is its keeping the player from becoming a free agent in return the player gets paid top 5 money for his position.

They should have implemented this before LeBron’s Free Agency year.

yeah they might be trying to get the tag for next season. I think the players are fighting it

Also the players are standing strong with letting players be allowed to come straight from highschool

I really like the franchise tag in the NFL, and would love it in the NBA. Here is a little info on the Franchise & Transition tags:http://football.about.com/cs/football101/a/franchisetransi.htm

I also hope they go to non-guarnteed contracts like the NFL. That way we can stop referring to players in terms of their deals. For example, Theo Ratliff’s expiring contract.

    Thoughts?

I’m not sure i like the non-guarntee. Then players can get cut for getting injuried

this would be one of the best things the NBA did in a long time…..it would be a good thing if the Cavs got the Heat’s first round pick this year and maybe Toronto the next year…..for people who want more parody for the league, this is your rule…..

A franchise tag doesn’t bother me at all.  If you look at both sides, if a players wants to leave a team, the team should honor it’s contract and let the player decide.  It’s not like the player can "franchise tag" a team if they don’t want to leave the team or are traded/released.

All in all, a franchise tag doesn’t bother me, whether it makes it to the NBA or not, it’s really not too important to me.  If the franchise tag was around when LeBron was in Cleveland, he would have still left the following year anyway.
