As expected.  5 years 25 mil.  How do you guys think Fisher will turn out as a coach?  He is definitely a leader.  Of course there will be questions as there will be with Steve Kerr because neither has any head-coaching experience at any level.  The Knicsk are one biq question mark.  Does Melo resign?  What to do with JR Smith.  Is Bargnani part of their long-term plans?  More questions than answers in New York.  Fish has his work cut out for him for sure.

I think he will do good.. But he needs Melo back. If not then they have to rebuild, which will suck, but its New York so im assuming players will want to come and play there. I see Kyrie going there next year, hes from jersey and I know he does not want to stay in a losing situation in cleveland. Kyrie and another free agent could put the knicks on top because the Nets are older and who knows what will happen with the Heat

The roster is a bit of a mess so they need to shore that up quickly.  Kerr and Fish get $5M per year.  Think Jason Kidd ($2.5M) is talking to his agent?  All came in with zero coaching experience.

Being that Kerr and Fish have no coaching experience they are both being overpaid, especially relative to other more established coaches in the league. Maybe they are making more than Kidd based on championships won as a player.  Both Kerr and Fish have 5, while Kidd only has 1.  Who knows?….I am still baffled why teams made such a strong push for each of these guys.  There are other former players with champioship experience that also have served as assistant coaches in the NBA (i.e. Sam Cassell) that aren’t even mentioned for head coaching jobs let alone pursued by teams.  Think about how many years it took Brian Shaw to land a head coaching job. He landed a 2yr/4millon dollar contract despite having several years as an assisant coach in the league.

First and foremost, they have to see what happens with Melo. If he leaves, the Knicks (last I checked) would still be over the cap which could lead to a situation similar to the Lakers last summer with Howard. Gonna be a tough summer for the Knicks, but I do believe Fisher will be a very good coach.

I totally agree with dcase. People are overrating the former players as potential coaches, just bc they won as a player. Not saying these guys don’t have potential, but let them learn on the bench as an assistant first. With that said, Im not surprised at the franchises that did this: Knicks, Nets, Warriors 2x (Jackson and Kerr). These franchises have failed for so long due to bad leadership making terrible decisions. As for Warriors, as many games as they won in Jackson’s tenure, Jackson himself was overrated. With all that talent, they were bound to finally becoming competitive, it’s not due to Jackson being their coach. He is overrated as a leader. He was a pastor in his church, and people take his style of speaking as leadership. Even his commentary on ESPN, if you read a transcript of what he says, w/o hearing how he says it, nothing there screams “NBA Head Coach” about him. Best new coach hiring this offseason goes to Utah. Snyder has been on the bench for plenty of years and has the experience to hit the ground running.

Think Coach Bud with the Hawks. As much injuries we had, Kidd/Jackson/Kerr/Fisher would not have gotten that team to the playoffs. Coaches do one of three things, cause their teams to underachieve, play to their potential, or play above their potential. These first year coaches will cause their teams to underachieve during their learning curves. Best bet would have been to bring in a vet, Karl (Warriors), Hollins (Knicks), and hire Kerr and Fisher as head coaches in waiting.

I can’t believe these guys with ZERO head coaching experience. ZERO. Are getting paid 5million dollars a year. This blows my mind.

Fisher is no longer my least favorite player.

Fisher is now my least favorite coach.
