Which of these teams will be the first to make the playoffs…and why?

    Lakers

    Twolves

    76ers

    Nets

    Nuggets

    Blazers

The Timberwolves have the talent…but are very young and in a tougher conference.

The Nets and Nuggets lack direction and the Lakers have very few assets….yet an attractive market and future cap space. However I personally question their draft choices the last 2 seasons.

And Philly are just an embarassment…so picking them means placing blind faith in a franchise that no-one wants anything to do with.

Is Portland really that bad? They have a mix of veterans and young guns…but most people arent rating them highly.

    Thoughts?

I actually believe it might be the 76ers.

The Lakers, Timerwolves, Blazers, and Nuggets all play in the western conference and all teams shouldn’t make the playoffs in the next 3-4 years, pending a major shakeup.

The Brooklyn Nets stuck in between making the playoffs and not making the playoffs. I believe they got worse by getting rid of Deron Williams.

The 76ers plays in the eastern conference, they have a boatloads of picks, and they have players that can actually be great in the next 2 years in Jahlil Okafor and Nerlens Noel. They can potentially have a lineup filled with top 10 draft picks. And in 2 years I believe Okafor will be playing at all star level and Noel will be known as one of the most dominate defensive force in the league.

       I like your rationale.

Surely the East cant stay garbage forever though?

The draft on record, but lottery is based on playoff apperances, so those near .500 teams in the West still get into the lottery. The only way the East gets back on top is basically through free agency and this year’s top free agents went from a West team to another West team.

I believe the reason the West keeps getting top 5 picks is because if you stink just a little in the west (but would be OK in the East)…your record takes an absolute battering.

Nice input Chewy….but its gonna be tough to redeem yourself after that thread about Cat Videos on youtube.

nets; It very likely will be a team in the east, and their owner is willing to spend. They are close to making it now.

I would have to say the Lakers. I don’t believe any of them will make it this year. The Lakers are set up to have an enormous amount of cap space next summer and already have several young building blocks in place. Even if they don’t land a superstar type player next summer, I have to believe they will at least be able to lure enough talent to put together a squad capable of challenging for a playoff spot, even in the west.
