butidonthavemoneyWho in the draft do you think could be first options on offense in the NBA?
First options should be able to score in bulk, not necessarily efficiently.
First options should be able to create their own offense at any time.
First options should be able to carry their teammates on their shoulders when necessary.I see three potential first scoring options in the 2010 NBA draft, but I want to see what you guys think first…

knicksfan7ParticipantGreat post. As for guys who I think can be that type of player, definitely Evan Turner as one of them, I think James Anderson can be another one, and possibly Greg Monroe for his versatility. I love Dominique Jones, but to consider him a first option is pushing it.

sammybuckeye13ParticipantEven though he’s not a terrific shooter, I see Evan Turner as a potential first option for sure. He’s like LeBron on the college level driving to basket and he’s just so crafty.
Wes Johnson is definitely not a first option, he’s too poor a ball handler; I go to Cuse and watch every game, I know. He can create his own shot, but the bulk of his points come from spot-up jumpers, put-backs and dunks on great feeds from Rautins or Scoop.
Cousins is a potential first option in a couple years. Not yet. Whiteside and Aminu likely never will be, and I don’t know enough about Motiejunas to appraise his ability to carry a team on the offensive end. Favors just hasn’t proven himself yet, and it’s hard to really gauge what exactly he does to qualify him as a special on offense.
Of all the prospects likely to enter, I see James Anderson as the first player I would choose to be my first option on my team. He’s a true shooting guard with NBA size and length (6-6/210), but most importantly, he boasts a remarkably refined offensive game. Currently averaging 22.6 ppg for OK State.
I also love Elliot Williams and Dominique Jones, but who knows if they’ll ever really get a chance to play early on and gain some confidence. Marcus Thornton, who I loved going into this year, got lucky and got into a groove. Williams and Jones are dynamic, born scorers, but might not inspire enough enough confidence in their pro teams based on their physical attributes and their college squads’ performance.

knicksfan7ParticipantI think what Greg Monroe needs is JT3 to tell him “Greg you’re the best player in the whole conference, go dominate, if you like that shot take it don’t worry about missing it.” To me Greg Monroe can be a lot better than he is already.

butidonthavemoneyI can’t see Johnson or Bradley as a first option. Johnson seems like an ideal second option to me. Bradley has a lot of work to do in terms of consistincy, finishing and ball-handling to be considered a second option.
I don’t see Monroe as a first option either. He is too passive to be a first option. He does have a versitile skill-set in terms of scoring and he could be a second pillar in terms of initiating the offense, but I’m not sure about his scoring potential. Tough to see him scoring 20+ PPG.
0 - Posted on: Mon, 03/01/2010 - 7:04pm #261928

butidonthavemoneySure he can, but you don’t see a lot of people suddenly change their entire mentality.
I see Monroe as a 15, 7, 4 guy in the NBA as of now.
He’ll have more chances to change my opinion of course. March will give him many chances to step up and show everything he is capable of. Will he continue to be passive when his team’s season is on the line? Also his role will change depending on the system his future NBA team has.

The8thDeadlySinParticipantLet me look… Umm..
EDIT!!!!
Lets look at this..
John Wall can get his shot any time he wants.. He is a PG though…
Turner can get his shot any time he wants but he is not a great shooter..
Cousins can do almost everything but shoot outside of 15 feet..0 - Posted on: Mon, 03/01/2010 - 7:15pm #261930

butidonthavemoneyYou never really know for sure though. If you would have asked me last year I would have said Blake Griffin would be the only first option in the 2009 draft class. Tyreke Evans has really surprised me and now I believe he could be a first option.
Right now I’m on the fence about Stephen Curry.
0 - Posted on: Mon, 03/01/2010 - 7:30pm #261935

DanEboyParticipantI think Wall, James Anderson, and Stephenson ( if he keeps developing ) could be first options.
0 - Posted on: Mon, 03/01/2010 - 7:32pm #261936
knicksfan7ParticipantDanEboy, I like the choices, though why not Evan Turner??
Stephenson saying he will come back is a great idea because it will benefit him in the future.0 - Posted on: Mon, 03/01/2010 - 7:40pm #261939

DanEboyParticipantEvan could be as well without a doubt, he is my favorite player in the draft. Lance and Anderson just have that scorers’ mentality and Wall seems to want to take over games at the end. I think Turner is the only one of the 4 that would be able to play and defer to a better teammate. Although Anderson still has a ways to go himself.
0 - Posted on: Mon, 03/01/2010 - 7:40pm #261940

festar35ParticipantI like Wall, Turner and Anderson as potential first option players. It all depends on who drafts who though, if the Pacers get one of the 3 they would all likely be behind Granger or if Nets picked them up would you go with the rookie or Lopez who is proven?
0 - Posted on: Mon, 03/01/2010 - 7:43pm #261943
knicksfan7ParticipantFestar good points, though I don’t see anything wrong with having multiple #1 options as long as they can simply check there egos at the door and focus on winning a championship a la Boston 2008 you would consider both Pierce and Garnett #1 options and Ray Allen a borderline #1.
0 - Posted on: Mon, 03/01/2010 - 7:43pm #261941

butidonthavemoneyfestar I didn’t mean who would be first options their rookie seasons. I meant who do you see that has that kind of potential in the 2010 NBA draft class.
0 - Posted on: Mon, 03/01/2010 - 7:44pm #261945
knicksfan7ParticipantWhen are you going to mention your choices, I am eager to hear.
0 - Posted on: Mon, 03/01/2010 - 7:54pm #261951
xbadgerhustlerParticipantone guy i haven’t seen anyone mention is willie warren. i know his stock has dropped this year, but he definitely has the talent and the mindset to be a big-time scorer.
0 - Posted on: Mon, 03/01/2010 - 7:56pm #261952
knicksfan7ParticipantWillie Warren is too inconsistent, I know butidonthavemoney mentioned not necessarily efficient, but to be a first option you have to show some degree of efficiency, and I don’t believe Willie Warren shows it.
0 - Posted on: Mon, 03/01/2010 - 7:57pm #261953

butidonthavemoneyWall
Turner
MotiejunasI’m on the fence about Cousins and Anderson.
0 - Posted on: Mon, 03/01/2010 - 8:00pm #261954

butidonthavemoneyWillie Warren doesn’t have what it takes to put his teammates on his back and carry them to wins. Inefficient guys like Allen Iverson and Tracy McGrady had that kind of power when they were first options.
0 - Posted on: Mon, 03/01/2010 - 8:08pm #261958

DanEboyParticipantHave you seen the Euro play?
0 - Posted on: Mon, 03/01/2010 - 8:10pm #261959
xbadgerhustlerParticipantit’s funny to me that so many ppl want to write willie warren off… the kid is a sophomore. to say that he can’t do nearly anything is a little ridiculous. he’s spent two years at oklahoma where i think he thought he’d be playing for kelvin sampson and his instead played for capel…there’s no doubt he’s pretty talented.
0 - Posted on: Mon, 03/01/2010 - 8:14pm #261960
knicksfan7Participantbutidonthavemoney you must have seen the euro play to be able to have him as a potential first option.
0 - Posted on: Mon, 03/01/2010 - 8:16pm #261962

DanEboyParticipant^ that was my point. I can’t put him on my list because I haven’t seen him play.
0 - Posted on: Mon, 03/01/2010 - 8:18pm #261963
knicksfan7ParticipantDanEboy, I meant to put in my post that I agree with you, my bad.

0 - Posted on: Mon, 03/01/2010 - 8:21pm #261964

butidonthavemoneyI have seen very little of his game, but his Euro play isn’t a great tool for scouting his game due to his age and role with the team.
He can do everything offensively. Turnaround jumpers, post moves, range out to three, good hands, quick feet, driving to the hoop, make plays righty and lefty, passing, floaters, spot-up, handles. He has the offensive instincts of a first option.
He has his flaws, but I do believe in the right situation he could be a first option.
0 - Posted on: Mon, 03/01/2010 - 8:24pm #261967

butidonthavemoneyWe have seen him play. I can’t see him as a first option.
BTW, Blake Griffin was injured and Warren was the first option in that game, and they lost.
0 - Posted on: Tue, 03/02/2010 - 4:46am #262018
tonyl33ParticipantWall and Turner will be the only two players with the ability to be first option coming out of the gates next year. Through they years, can someone develop? Yeah of course, but out of the draft, I only see Wall and Turner with the ability to be first options. They are too talented offensively in a one on one situation. I do see the offense moving through Greg Monroe in an offense due to his passing ability.
0 - Posted on: Tue, 03/02/2010 - 6:41am #262041
quinceyhodgesallen iverson had a alot better team then warren did when he was at gtown. not saying warren is as good as he is but you cant expect for him to carry that sooner team because they arent that good. just about everyone out there goes for self. they dont play as a team at all.
as far as who can be number one options…..good question…im not sure but if we go by history then maybe one will turn out to be a number one option in there career. on a good team
0 - Posted on: Tue, 03/02/2010 - 6:43am #262042
McWinningParticipantRenardo Sidneys a sleeper. I think if he loses some weight he can be a lot like Al Harrington, not a first option though probably.
0 - Posted on: Tue, 03/02/2010 - 6:52am #262048

butidonthavemoneyI asked who has the potential. I think there are multiple players in this draft who could be first options.
History would tell us that about one or two players per draft end up being first options. Depending on whether you consider guys Chris Bosh, Monta Ellis, Danny Granger or Kevin Martin to be legit first options (which I don’t). Sometimes no viable first options will come out of a draft.
0 - Posted on: Tue, 03/02/2010 - 6:55am #262052
quinceyhodgesfirst options on a good team?..are you sure…imma check the last 10 drafts because maybe youre right. on a bad team its not too hard to be a first option but on a good team?
0 - Posted on: Tue, 03/02/2010 - 6:56am #262053
quinceyhodgesbut if youre talking about being a first option on a bad team or a team with no chance at a title then yeah youre right it could be one or 2.. probably more. a 6th man could probably be a 1st option on a bad team
0 - Posted on: Tue, 03/02/2010 - 7:04am #262056

butidonthavemoneyLooking back at guys like
Carmelo Anthony
LeBron James
Dwyane Wade
Deron Williams
Chris Paul
Kevin Durant
Brandon RoyI consider those guys the legit first options between the years of 2003-2007. All could be first options on a championship-contending team.
An average of 1.4
Not counting players 2008-2009 because they haven’t really had a chance yet.
0 - Posted on: Tue, 03/02/2010 - 7:15am #262062
quinceyhodgesthat cool..now keep going back to get a bigger pool of players..that shows a more accurate number even though 1.4 is still close to one
0 - Posted on: Tue, 03/02/2010 - 7:22am #262063

butidonthavemoneyYou can take care of that if you want but I don’t feel like it.
1.4 is closer to 1.5 than 1.0 but if you want to tell yourself you win that’s fine. I’m not going to be baited into another hour-long, pointless argument with you only so you can disregard everything I say at the end and say that you have a friend that told you I was wrong so therefore I must be wrong.
0 - Posted on: Tue, 03/02/2010 - 7:24am #262065
quinceyhodgesso basically one or a tad above one..pretty much the same thing i said about maybe one out of every draft…if i had to pick one out of this one……id say……….turner
0 - Posted on: Tue, 03/02/2010 - 7:29am #262068

butidonthavemoneyI love you too, Quincey!
0 - Posted on: Tue, 03/02/2010 - 7:29am #262071
McWinningParticipantMoney you left out Sergio Sergio Rodriguez from that list.
0 - Posted on: Tue, 03/02/2010 - 7:31am #262073
quinceyhodgesthe list is for first options not worst starting pg
0 - Posted on: Tue, 03/02/2010 - 7:32am #262074
McWinningParticipantha i can name several starting pgs hes better than he belongs on that list.
0 - Posted on: Tue, 03/02/2010 - 7:33am #262076
quinceyhodgesseveral?..ok name then and we can compare there careers
0 - Posted on: Tue, 03/02/2010 - 7:36am #262077
quinceyhodgessg-6pts 3.3ast a game. i think his averages are up to 8pts 4 ast with double the minutes yet his numbers didnt double…on a very bad knicks team where he is a starter. a below average defender and a so-so shooter

McWinningParticipantDo you watch him play? hes not bad defensibly hes not the greatest on ball defender but has averaged over two steals a game and plays pretty good defense even though his team doesn’t.

quinceyhodgeslol..hes not better then any of those guys?….does he even have better starter numbers then holiday?…what has he done better then any of those guys?..hes a back up pg at best.. ive been watching just about every game since the trade…i wouldnt take him over any of those guys

quinceyhodgesits hard not to take sergio serious….youve seen the past post from some people…alot of people really think hes that good. i had a talk with one guy who said hes better then tony parker.. and he was dead serious
0 - Posted on: Tue, 03/02/2010 - 7:49am #262086

butidonthavemoneyI stop reading things that are repeated over and over again.
That’s why I ditched these forums when Brandon Jennings was the hot topic.
That’s why I don’t go into any of your topics that mention Derrick Favors or Georgia Tech.Sergio is pretty exciting to watch, but I won’t even talk about him being better than Tony Parker. I’m not even sure that he’s better than Sundiata Gaines…
0 - Posted on: Tue, 03/02/2010 - 7:57am #262087
quinceyhodgesthats cool..we all have fourms we dont go into…lol..Sundiata Gaines…i agree with you he is exciting sometimes. somepoepl just cant handle if a player they pump up isnt as good as they thought..it happens everyone doesnt always pan out how we think they will
0 - Posted on: Tue, 03/02/2010 - 8:16am #262090
McWinningParticipantLol butidonthavemoney its funny how bias you are. Let me guess Williams is better than MJ and Kirilenko is better than Pippen?
0 - Posted on: Tue, 03/02/2010 - 8:32am #262095
quinceyhodgesi hope he doesnt say those guys are better then mj and pippen..but sergio has proven hes a back up at best. even when some peopel wehere talking about per48..give him more minutes and you will see. well hes getting more then double theminutes but isnt close to doubling the production. cant be in a better situation to pad youre stats then with the knicks and in d’antonis offense
0 - Posted on: Tue, 03/02/2010 - 9:19am #262101

butidonthavemoneyYou just compared Sergio Rodriguez and Michael Jordan in an analogy. Shame on you.
Sundiata Gaines stepped up big time and won a game for the Jazz. How many times has Sergio been the hero? ZERO
Gaines’ shot helped spark the Jazz to a big time run (which management broke with the friggin’ Ronnie Brewer trade, but don’t get me started) and he has played well in the few games where he has actually gotten significant minutes. He was draftexpress.com’s NUMBER ONE prospect in the D-League before the season began and did not disappoint by putting up numbers that Sergio can’t even count to (in English). Utah picked him up and I’m 100% positive that they wouldn’t even think about trading him for Sergio.
OoOOOOooooOoOoooo, Sergio can dribble nice and make some fancy passes. Spit. Because of you trying (and failing) to call me out I am now against Sergio Rodriguez.
