lawrencejdParticipantSteven Adams was one of if not THE most scrutinised player that entered the draft. And seeing as he got taken number 12 by OKC people have put allot of unnecessary and extreme expectations and pressure on him.
So I was wondering what your guys first impressions are on him after his first 3 summer league games? Do you think he will get into the rotation at the start of the year? And what do you think his role can be 3 years down the track?

delfamParticipantHe is super athletic but for some reason he doesn’t play athletic. His hands seem suspect on defense and he doesn’t grab as many rebounds as he should for his size.
On offense he shows nice touch on the free throw line and has range out to 15ft, but he doesn’t shoot them very often. His post moves for me are to slow. He’ll get the ball in great position and waits there so long before making his move allowing guards to collapse on him. I’d like him to be faster with his post moves and just play more athletic on offense.
I think with time when he gets more comfortable with the speed of the game his athleticism will come out and he’ll be a quality starter with defensive potential, but right now he just seems to play unathletic and is a little slow.

providencefriars1ParticipantI think he will be in the D-League to start the year because he needs to play minutes right away to develop. He isnt polished enough right now to contribute in the NBA. His size and defensive ability along with his immerging mid range jumper will make him a starting center eventually

Mr. 19134ParticipantHis body and defense are NBA ready and as raw as his offense he’s still more of a weapon in that end tjen Perkins is.

MrManalo43Participantfrom what i saw in the summer league, i was left wanting more. i know it’s the summer league, but he shoulda been able to at least get 1 double double.
with that being said, in the long run, i see him packing on at most 10 lbs to max out at 265 lbs maybe more. Realistic Case: I think he could be a lesser man’s ‘more athletic but less of a bruiser’ version of Pekovic. Worst case poor man’s Vucevic. Best Case: rich man Pekovic in all his bruiser glory with rich man Vucevic’s rebounds. I can see him becoming a double double guy on any given night. He doesn’t really need to refine his offense cuz the thunder can get scoring from anywhere (Westbrook and Durant: approx 50 ppg/ Ibaka 15-16/ jackson and lamb: 12 and 14 respectively and others as well)
all i’m saying is, if the I were the thunder, all i would ask him to do is get stronger/tougher for the paint and ask him to get those rebounds and garbage buckets. let’s say he gets 2-3 offensive rebounds a game: 4-6 points, keep his hands up in case someone finds him down low from a drive: 2-4 points, and pick and rolls (perkins can only do a pick. can’t roll…): 2-4 points. he can potentially get 8-10 ppg simply on his effort alone and this would fit in nicely with the thunder since he won’t need the ball in his hands being fed in the post, thus taking away possesions from westbrook and durant.
Overall: I’m excited about this guy. if he and Lamb can become a good starter and sixth man respectively, i think the james harden trade would become fair for both sides.

SubZeroParticipantWell it would be nice to have someone to throw the ball to down in the post in the 4th quarter so other teams can’t get away with doubling Durant.

hbomb3300ParticipantHe is very raw… but I would much rather watch him play hard, sprint the court, make amazing plays, and screw up some, then watch Perkins screw up 90% of his touches, go slow, and rebound poorly. Hopefully after mid-season Brooks will have enough confidence in Adams to give him 10-15 minutes a game.

providencefriars1ParticipantI know its only summer league but Daniel Orton has looked very good/comfortable so far. Orton was hitting mid range shots, finishing strong in traffic, and playing tough defense. IMO he is the best choice to play C with the second unit to start the season. At the end of the day, its better to play well in summer league than to play poorly.

JoeWolf1I literally made a post titled something very similar in November, haha. He’s improved since then, but here is my actual first impression of him.
