gbmantisParticipantI have never dunked before. Yesterday at the park, I had pretty good spring on my jumps and tried to alleyoop it to myself off the backboard. I clank it off the rim but it goes way up in the air and then off the backboard and in the hoop. Did I dunk?! Lol

Magic JordanParticipantIf you’re clanking off the back of the rim then you’re close enough. Don’t cheat yourself. I say it doesn’t count!!

Chilbert arenasParticipantHit those dead lifts, power cleans, and bulgarian split squats and you’ll be there in no time

BenchWarmerParticipantYes to the squat rack!! I had given up on dunking I would register over a 38 vertical regularly but I am 5’6 with a 7′ standing reach lol so when it comes to dunking it’s not gonna work just by doing simple math. Well last month after a solid year of not thinking about even attempting to dunk after packing on a good 20 pounds of good weight, I damn near had a putback dunk. I was having a really springy day, we’ve all had them, those days where when you run you feel like derrick rose in his prime. Anyways so we were playing 4on4 and I’m doing my usual spreading the floor with the long range bombs and A buddy passes to a guy who in the short time of playing with him realized he can’t make layups,he takes a little hook from the right block so I crash hard from the left knowing it will most likely come opposite and get up for the offensive board and I keep rising, I catch it with the right hand and go for it! Boooom off the back of the rim, people are going nuts, and as suprised as I was I was still thinkin one more inch. I worked my ass off for that moment and all the stars aligned perfectly and I still can’t do what I first saw Kenyon Martin do all those years ago in New Jersey .. It’s kinda crushing haha I love basketball but I hate it. Fuck

Rip255I say even a park hoop doesn’t count. Where I’m from, most ourdoor park hoops aren’t the exact height. Some are too high, most are too low. Chances are if you’re finding yourself 2-3 inches closer to dunking, it’s not because your legs were springy but rather the hoop is low. It has to be an indoor hoop which is properly measured and hosts actual basketball games to be sure
Don’t stress though, if you’re a young fella and still growing then you’ll be dunking clean in 6 months.
The thing I found helped a lot was grip strength in my hands. Being able to easily palm the ball made a huge difference to throwing it down clean.
As for the guy recommending powerlifting….I’m not so sure that would work. I can’t imagine guys like Zach Lavine, Andrew Wiggins or Vince Carter ever used that method. It’s about getting those fast twitch muscles working.

Jco4ParticipantThat’s right Rip255 it is about getting those fast twitch muscles working but powerlifting is a viable method too. It’s all very good to have a fast contraction speed / explosive power but having hypertrophy and a larger muscle force to contract helps too. If you use a fast tempo during powerlifts you’re still activating fast twitch muscle fibres and working on rate of force development. Before jumping straight into power exercises I’ll always recommend strength training for at least a month first so you have a decent amount of force to work with.

LeroyJenkinsParticipantLMAO! No it doesn’t count just like I told my friend Richie after lunch just because you fap to Victoria Justice nudes doesn’t mean you scored with her. GTFO with that NBA Live glitch level of a dunk kid.
