llperezyeah, i get that channel, i might have to check him out. Is he supposed to be coming out this year?

JNixonParticipantThere’s a chance he will…I’ll definitely be watching this one.

GreenLanternParticipantHey how do you guys feel about Elliot Williams at this point? If he comes out this year, is he a first rounder? I am looking to see Whiteside dominate in this game since Memphis is thin in the frontcourt.
0 - Posted on: Wed, 01/27/2010 - 2:47pm #251209

OldSkoolBasketballParticipanthe’s projected number one on this website over harrison barnes. thats interesting.
0 - Posted on: Wed, 01/27/2010 - 2:56pm #251211

butidonthavemoneyI really do think Whiteside will come out this year. He could go as high as the second overall pick, but there is a lot of basketball to be played this season, he could still fall out of the first round altogether.
I am very excited to finally get a chance to watch him play. We’ll see what he is capable of.
As for Elliot Williams I think he is a first rounder as of now, but he has a chance to crack the lottery next year.
0 - Posted on: Wed, 01/27/2010 - 3:05pm #251214
hotshotschampParticipantAfter tonight, many will criticize him and say why is he worth the hype!?
Sometimes when you see a player, that’s talked about so much, and unknown, you’re like uhhhhhhhhh
We’ll see though! I’ll be watching.

jeff416ParticipantElliot Williams will probably be a mid-first round pick to early second round pick if he came out this year. But he has alot of work to do before he’s ready for the NBA. His shot is ok from 3 but he doesn’t have much of a mid range game, he needs to work on his handle’s to, and he needs to learn how to go right before he will be a good player in the NBA. But he has alot of potiential due to his athletic ability. He’s about 6’4 1/2 so he’s a little short for a SG in the NBA he has some PG skills but he’s more of a SG. There are alot of rumors that he will enter the draft this year so im guessing he will be picked late 20’s if he enters this year. But yall need to watch for Wesley Witherspoon in this game to, Elliot Williams is Memphis’s best player right now but Witherspoon has more pro potential. He’s 6’9” with good handle’s and good athletic ability he should be a good SF someday in the NBA.

nateoak10ParticipantHuge block by Hassan… not even a block as much as he inhaled it
0 - Posted on: Wed, 01/27/2010 - 3:25pm #251222

JNixonParticipantI talked about Witherspoon in the summer. I watched him play in AAU back when he was a senior in HS, and I think he could develop into a Tayshaun Prince type player. He’s very quick and he’s got the ability to play any perimeter position. I seriously think he can develop into one of the absolute best defenders in the NBA in time..He’s extremely long, and provides a ton of versatility. He just needs polish offensively, and to work on his shot…
As for Elliot Williams, he’s going to be like a Dahntay Jones type. At least that’s what I see.

hotshotschampParticipantHis arms are like gumby, he’s going to be a shot blocking machine.
However he will really have to work on his body, and post up game, he gets pushed around easy inside.
He will be a project of 3-5 years. However he could pan out huge, if he puts it together.

butidonthavemoneyThat was a perfect description. Haha
8 minutes in, Whiteside has looked impressive. He hit a 12 footer from the elbow, which is something that I have yet to see from Favors, Davis, Aldrich or Varnado this season. He is very mobile and seems to be one of the first players down the court on offense and defense. His movement is effortless and his extension is unreal.
I would like to see him be more aggressive, particularly on the boards.
0 - Posted on: Wed, 01/27/2010 - 3:46pm #251231

butidonthavemoneyTurnaround 18 footer from the baseline. I had no idea he was capable of that.
0 - Posted on: Wed, 01/27/2010 - 3:47pm #251232

JNixonParticipantHe has alot of length man…It pretty unbelievable how long he is. Got a big frame as well, that looks capable of putting on a good buit of muscle. He’s definitely going to make his presence felt on the glass and blocking shots. He just blocked Witherspoon’s shot with both hands as I type this lol. He’s going to have to touch up his offensive skills and get stronger, but I think he can be a decent starting PF/C in the NBA in a few seasons
0 - Posted on: Wed, 01/27/2010 - 3:50pm #251235

butidonthavemoneyLittle Elijah Millsap is the top rebounder in the conference. You gotta love that.
And a third block for Whiteside, as he gets up to stuff his own man.
0 - Posted on: Wed, 01/27/2010 - 3:51pm #251237
hotshotschampParticipantthat turnaround 18 footer was smoothe.
He plays a lot more perimeter game than I thought. I always thought he was just a under the basket guy.
he needs to put on about 30 lbs though, in a hurry.

Adi JosephI’m not sure I agree that he will be a "project" in the traditional sense of the word. He has a lot of room for improvement, but he can also contribute now. He’s stronger than you are all giving him credit for, certainly stronger than Kevin Garnett was as a rookie. I see him starting his career similar to Marcus Camby, who took several years to develop into a great rebounder and defender but was a great shot blocker and decent, intelligent offensive player from day one. His upside, though, goes far beyond what Camby has become.

GreenLanternParticipantPeople are waking up to this guy. Dude has serious ability. Someone argued with me this morning on here Cousins had the same length. Please. He is one the top five prospects for THIS year if he comes out.
0 - Posted on: Wed, 01/27/2010 - 4:04pm #251244

butidonthavemoneyI read somewhere that he had a 7’7″ wingspan. He is also a legit seven-footer, and certainly a better leaper than Cousins.
0 - Posted on: Wed, 01/27/2010 - 4:04pm #251243

butidonthavemoneyI agree with Adi. His ability to stay out of foul trouble would be enough to get him 20 minutes a game on some teams in the NBA. He won’t be a go-to player, but he can be a difference maker off the bench.
0 - Posted on: Wed, 01/27/2010 - 4:07pm #251246
hotshotschampParticipanthe plays more like Kg and Bosh than a traditional center?
He seems to like to roam a lot and likes the perimeter, and has a nice touch on that shot.
He’s got some polish on him, I wouldn’t expect him to come to the league next year and do much, but he will show flashes and get just better and better every year.
He’s one interesting prospect.
0 - Posted on: Wed, 01/27/2010 - 4:10pm #251247

GreenLanternParticipantPedo who do you compare Whiteside to? I think if Marcus Camby was 10 years older, he would have some ‘splaining to do you know what I mean? lol
Hotshot that’s really good observation that I missed the whole time.
0 - Posted on: Wed, 01/27/2010 - 4:18pm #251249

butidonthavemoneyThis is my first time watching him. He mentioned that KG is his idol, and you can kind of see it in his game. I don’t like the DeAndre Jordan comparison. I can see a little Marcus Camby/Dwight Howard, but I’m not yet sure who I would compare him too.

nateoak10ParticipantANOther huge block…….. omfg
0 - Posted on: Wed, 01/27/2010 - 4:22pm #251251
hotshotschampParticipantgreat touch on his shot, nothing but nylon from 17 feet out.
Then he swats one for his 4th block.

0 - Posted on: Wed, 01/27/2010 - 4:23pm #251253

JNixonParticipantI think he’s very similar to Garnett, but a poor man’s version though. He doesn’t possess that kind of footwork or the perimeter game that Garnett has always had. He’s unpolished and he’s still growing into himself, but he does have a high upside. He has an emerging skill set, which shows me that he will get alot better.
0 - Posted on: Wed, 01/27/2010 - 4:24pm #251254
hotshotschampParticipanta nice hook shot!!!
twolves better put this kid on their radar!!!
0 - Posted on: Wed, 01/27/2010 - 4:24pm #251255

butidonthavemoneyNice hook shot. This kid has game.
0 - Posted on: Wed, 01/27/2010 - 4:30pm #251256

butidonthavemoneyYou would think the Tigers would know by now not to shoot the ball while running into the vicinity of Hassan Whiteside.
0 - Posted on: Wed, 01/27/2010 - 4:32pm #251257
hotshotschampParticipantI don’t see why he can’t go top 3
0 - Posted on: Wed, 01/27/2010 - 4:36pm #251258

gatorheelsParticipantYeah I like Whiteside as prospect. I haven’t been watching this game but I watched Marshall play UAB a couple days ago & posted something about it. Whiteside is definitely more skilled offensively than DeAndre Jordan was at Texas A&M. Defensively Whiteside is a slightly longer/taller version of Varnado. I told you all last week Whiteside has good form on his jumpshot. In time he should be able to develop a consistent midrange game. Definite lottery pick but I don’t think I would take him over Ed Davis.
Keep in my Whiteside is up against Will Coleman 6-9 & Niles 6-8 this game. Neither one of those post players are very good.
0 - Posted on: Wed, 01/27/2010 - 4:38pm #251259

butidonthavemoneyHe is also better defensively than DeAndre Jordan was.
0 - Posted on: Wed, 01/27/2010 - 4:39pm #251261
nateoak10ParticipantCousins vs Hassan
0 - Posted on: Wed, 01/27/2010 - 4:45pm #251263

gatorheelsParticipantBear- I agree
nateoak- yep that would be fun to watch. Whiteside would block Cousins probably 10 times lol. Cousins would muscle his way to 20 points though & draw some fouls.
0 - Posted on: Wed, 01/27/2010 - 4:59pm #251269

butidonthavemoneyWhiteside with a career high 22 points so far.
0 - Posted on: Wed, 01/27/2010 - 4:59pm #251270
hotshotschampParticipantI’m simply shocked at his outside game, and touch on his shot.
I never expected this going into the game. His ceiling is scary high.
0 - Posted on: Wed, 01/27/2010 - 5:04pm #251271

butidonthavemoneyand he is blocking shots at their APEX!
0 - Posted on: Wed, 01/27/2010 - 5:07pm #251274
nateoak10ParticipantNice rotation guy maybe.
0 - Posted on: Wed, 01/27/2010 - 5:23pm #251282
jeff416ParticipantGreat game by Whiteside but Memphis wins!
0 - Posted on: Wed, 01/27/2010 - 6:57pm #251312

OldSkoolBasketballParticipantI’m impressed. I was wondering why this site was hyping him much when I don’t even see his name on the sites mock draft. He has potential.
