In celebration of the great mamba’s last game, I just wanna hear some of the greatest moment and memories you guys have of Kobe. Mine, personally, was seing him play live in game 4 of the 2009 finals vs Orlando.  He had 32, but more than anything I just remember how focused and locked in this guy was in the pregame. Also, you get to see how athletic and how great of a demand this guy has on the game when you see him live.

Chris Childs hitting him with a two piece to the Adam’s apple. Arguably my most favorite NBA moment overall as well.

Game tying three on game 2 in 2004 NBA finals against pistons.

It was the first finals I watched live and that clearly stuck in my memory

The shot over Grant Hill during Game 6 of 2010 WCF and he patted Alvin Gentry after that shot was made.

Matt Barnes trying to punk out Kobe by pretending to throw the ball in his face and Kobe doesn’t even blink….cold blooded like the mamba he names himself after.

Mine was when I woke up morning, checked ESPN and saw Kobe: 81.  I thought…81 what?  Clicked the article and thought it was a mistake until I read the box score.

I was at the game against the Blazers when he sunk a 3 to send it into OT and then another one in OT for the win.  This game also had significant playoff implications.  Greatest game I have ever been to.  Props to my ex girlfriend for the tickets.

I’m gonna go back in time a bit because I feel nostalgic. All the moments mentioned above were among my favorites but I remember the first time I realized how special of a player Kobe could be.

It was a long forgotten regular season game in the less than memorable 1999 season, before Phil Jackson, before the  championships, before Kobe had reached his 21st birthday and was really considered an elite player. The Lakers were playing a bad warriors team on the road and came out flat and were getting pounded. I think they were down like 25 in the first half and shaq was ejected. The minute shaq went out of the game, it was like a switch flipped on for Kobe and you could see that he embraced the challenge of bringing the team back without their star player in a game they had no business winning. It was just awesome to watch and the Lakers fed off kobe’s confidence and came back. Kobe hit a ridiculous three and a tip in to send the game to overtime and the Lakers ended up winning. The way Kobe wanted that moment more than anything in the world  and was able to deliver was something I’d really only seen before in a few guys ( Michael, magic, bird). That’s when I knew Kobe was just cut from a different cloth and was going to be a really legendary player.

Being a Suns fan, I have tuned in to see Kobe play a lot throughout the years.  Two moments really have stuck out to me (coinsetentally both were during the 2006 playoffs.

    1) Raja Bell closeslining Kobe in Game 5.

Living in the moment of seeing that live, I just remember going nuts.  I HATED KOBE.  I hated everything that he stood for including his demeanor, his ego, and mostly the fact that he would often take his game to an extra gear whenever he played against Phoenix in the 00’s.  Raja Bell did what every nonbandwagon Suns fan wanted to do, put Kobe on the floor.  Yes it was cheap I’ll be the first to admit that, but man did it fire everyone up, including coach D’Antoni!

    2) Kobe dunking over Steve Nash in Game 2.

A WTF did that really just happen moment?!?!!  Amazing play. Poor Nash, I dont think that he knew that Kobe was going to elevate like that during the moment.  If that had happened in LA, that place would have be like the Seahawks arena, shaking and roaring like crazy!!

Regardless of how I felt about Kobe as a Suns fan, he is one of the greatest to ever play the game and is IMO a Top 10 player of all time.  Kudos to a great career for the Black Mamba (even if I hate your guts)!!

The two buzzer beating threes vs Portland to first tie and then end the game. I mean both those shots were so stupid that if someone did that to me I would just tip my cap and say ain’t nothing I can do about that.

The no flinch when Barnes pump faked him to the grill. I can’t even put vizene in my eye after a night of drinking without flinching,

Walking out to shoot the final ft’s after tearing his Achilles vs the Warriors

Also, while it wasn’t one moment, but just the big scoring stretches he had from 2006-2007. Off the top of my head I think he hit for like 40 in 9 straight games or something had a stretch of 50 in 4 straight, hit for 50 ten times in one season. When you think about how rare 50 point games are now it’s really impressive what he he was doing at his peak.

He gives us 60 points in a win when no one gave him a chance…

Im in awe of his greatness, my only regret is ever letting him slip through our fingers in the 96 Draft, He was in our backyard Philadelphia…

Anyway, Im so thrilled to have witnessed his entire career, ups and downas, even in a terrible year, Thank You Kobe Bean Bryant…
