I May Be WrongParticipantI mean I know injuries slowed him down later but lets not forget, the Cavs traded Andre Miller (who I think was leading the league in assists) for Miles. And what did they get from him? Two seasons of 9 points and 5 rebounds a game. Lucky for them, Cavs got a god send in LeBron and got rid of him but man, talk about wasted potential. 6’9" athletic freak SMH

M-DYMESParticipantCompared to what he could have been…he was a bust.
Don’t get me wrong he was a nice energy player, a spark plug if you will, but he could have a been one hell of a player in the league. I always thought he was somewhat of a bust. Not a compete one, but he should have made a better career out of that athleticism and talent.
Barring in mind that he was the 2nd overall pick.

Lotto StudParticipant- Ron Mercer- I really believed in him & now I don’t know why.
- Tim Thomas- 6’10” MONSTER SF as a Fr. which I thought would translate. Wrong!
- Jonathan Bender- 6’11” SG!!!! KD before KD…..SAD!
- DerMarr Johnson- #1 prospect in HS again ideal size 6’9” SG…..Tragic ending!
- DeShawn Stevenson– 44inch vert that is down to 31 at the age of 29. Still making a living so I can’t complain too much, but I loved him earlier on in his career.
- Joseph Forte- Milk Carton action & WTF!!!
- Omar Cook- Potential to be an assist leader in the league, but was not the guy we thought he would be.
- Troy Bell- WOW!
- Sebastian Telfair- If you told me 7years ago he would been on 6 different teams I would have laughed in your face.
- Marvin Williams- #2 overall as a 6th man in college! Does not get better then that.
- Rashad McCants- Only person who stops McCants is McCants & well we now know who ended McCants career.
- Marcus Williams- Lazy buzzard! Nets was HIS to once Kidd would leave, but he did not have the work ethic obviously.
- Javaris Crittenton- "Bust" from Day 1 especially if you get picked by the Lakers. Never got an opportunity & now he can’t get back into the league with all that talent he has.

ghrghrParticipantBit early to call him a bust, but Hasheem "Tha Beast" Thabeet.
Every time he entered the court his rookie year I expected him to block shots, but he would just commit two stupid fouls and go back to the bench. When he actually blocked a shot me and my brother went crazy. He was so bad we liked him.
When he was drafted people in the Grizzlies forum started posting Chuck Norris fact-like jokes about his defensive presence.

Memphis MadnessParticipantStromile Swift has the best highlights of any bust.
He was what he was. He could dunk, block shots, and score some.
He just was never going to be a superstar. I think he got drafted too high.
Oh, and he had a low basketball IQ. But he was basically the original Hakim Warrick and
he really isn’t considered a bust although he was a mild disappointment to some Grizzlies fans.
Warrick gave us 10 points, 5 rebounds, nearly one block, and a good sunk a game off the bench
and for some reason that wasn’t enough while Darrell Arthur does the same thing and he is more of a
fan favorite.I guess draft position distorts the perception of players.
I think big guys have it tough because every big man picked in the top 3
HAS to be the next Shaq, Hakeem, Olajuwon, or Ewing. So Andrew Bogut or Bargs
are somehow disappointments even though they are very good, but they were the number one picks and
failed to become superstars. It also hurts them since they were the first picks in weak drafts. But yeah, as far as highlights go my favorite busts are Stromile Swift, and before that Harold Miner.
Being compared to MJ usually isn’t good for a player’s career. Even Vince Carter failed to live up to
expectations.0 - Posted on: Sat, 07/02/2011 - 6:26pm #562141

Scottoant93Participant^^^^ great post, that is very true about people expecting too much since they are compared to great players in Bargs case, I read an interesting article about him today, it was about him and dirk and how they are the same players but the difference was that the mavs didn’t force dirk to move out of position and they surround him with defensive players to hide his flaws, something the raps have done for bargs instead forcing him to player center and surrounding with either good young players who are still developing(DD, Ed davis) or complete scrubs(klieza, weems)

MagikKnickParticipantThabeet looked like a deer in headlights from day 1, you’d think he was playing a completely different sport
My fav. scrub is Marcus Williams[uConn] simply because of the high expectations of him..in 2006 he was pinned a top 10 pick, but there were talks of him slipping, i didnt buy any of it…and it happened, not only did he slip, but he slipped down to 20, where the Knicks picked, and I was so estatic, waiting for Isaiah Thomas to make the draft pick…then i see Stern come out…and then he says we drafted Balkman, i was like WTF?!?!
I thought MWill would be what….DWill is today, sigh..i still have hope in him though!

NJHooper95ParticipantSome of these guys you are naming are not bust. I dont consider a player to be a bust if his career was derailed by a serious injury early. Secondly there are alot of player that are not given a shot. Many times in the NBA it not about how good you are, its more about what team you land on. Guys have to get drafted or signed by a team that is willing to utilize their strength.
There are about 200 division 1 colleges and about 30 NBA teams. If you took the star from just every division I college team there would not be enough room in the league. Some great college and HS players have to come in and find a role. But there are some players that really stink when they were given an opportuntity.

- Javaris Crittenton- "Bust" from Day 1 especially if you get picked by the Lakers. Never got an opportunity & now he can’t get back into the league with all that talent he has.

NJHooper95ParticipantYou have to judge each situation with an open eye, before declaring a player a bust
Lets be clear all the best players are not in the NBA. There are some really good players that had bad attitudes, did not know how to accept a role, got caught in a logjam, got drafted by a team that did put them in the best situation to excel simply just did not get an opportunity.
Kwame-is a tough one for me. He was the first High School player Drafted number one and he was drafted by Jordan. I do think he is a bust, but not cause he wasnt good enough. I think he had the talent and size, but I think his confidence was killed early. I dont think he was ready to be the face of a franchise.
And Really all of those High School Players drafted that year has struggled. Tyson Chandler just won a title but he is still not the player we envision coming out of High School. Eddy Curry has eaten himself out of the league. DeSana Diop was Terrible. Ossumane Cisse was hurt and never player.

NO EZ BUCKETSParticipantI remember earlier this year I went to a celtics vs. bulls game. Literrally the the entire 4th quarter everyone was chanting SCAL-A-BRINE! The place went nuts when tibs put him in for like the last 30 seconds of the game.

surveParticipantForte was plenty good enough but his head wasnt right. Almost an undeniable stat…there have been very few players at UNC to avg over 20ppg. How many can you name that were scrubs or busts in the NBA?
