RUDEBOY_ParticipantAdd Knick Hall of Famer and current Orlando Magic assistant coah Patrick Ewing to the list of candidates vying for the Charlotte Bobcat head coaching vacancy..League sources tell Yahoo Sports that Ewing will meet with Charlotte top brass once the Magic are eliminated from the playoffs.Ewing has been an assistant for 8 years and a long time friend of Bobcats owner Micheal Jordan….Sources say even though Charlotte will make a pitch to former Portland head coach Nate MacMillian..Charlotte will look to fill it’s void from assistsnts who have never held a head coaching job..Guys that will not complain about the Bobcats lack of talent, how they will spend money and just happy to have a head coaching job.. Charlotte is also looking to interview Pacers asst. Brian Shaw and Golden State asst. Mike Malone…
(If Jordan is really Ewing’s friend he wont put him in the middle of this mess)

Taylor Gang MikeParticipantand if they dont get number 1 pick (which the worst team in the really league never does) then it would be horrible

gopack10ParticipantNothing against Patrick Ewing but he isn’t the guy to try and right this ship. Nate McMillan is easily a better choice and fit for the Bobcats. McMillan is a North Carolina guy (went to NC State) and has head coaching experience. If Jordan hires Ewing then that will solidify him as the winner of the NBA"s Worst Executive of the Century award.
Hire Ewing away from the Magic as an Assistant to McMillan and have him groom Anthony Davis.

RUDEBOY_Participant^^thats why the bobcats are looking for someone that has never had a head coaching job..somebody thats trying to make a name for themselves…
hard to believe they were in the playoffs just 2 years ago…thats why teams like the spurs are successful they try to sign guys with high character..this bobcats team might be more screwed up then the wizards..

omphalosParticipantI prefer signing Brian Shaw, he’s a Phil Jackson disciple, a former champion in the NBA, and a guy who has paid his dues on the bench. Plus he’s young enough to really establish himself in Charlotte and become part of the franchise. The Bobcats need a young coach who will be able to grow with this team.
That said, I wouldn’t mind if the Bobcats hired Ewing, especially if they draft Drummond (assuming they miss out on the #1 pick) – what better coach to mentor Drummond and Biyombo together than Patrick Ewing?

kngojcParticipantThat’s exactly what I was thinking. Its harder for bigmen to establish themselves in the NBA, so why not bring in one of the most established post players of all time to teach the young players how to play the position. Especially if they bring in Drummond or Davis. They would have too many defensive minded post players that couldn’t play offense. Although Ewing couldn’t teach Dwight more than a few go to post moves, the improvements DH12 made were huge. I would think that Ewing would be a developmental guy that would help this team grow for 2 maybe 3 years and then move to assistant coach to let a more established coach run the show after the developments were made. The Bobcats are project team and they won’t get better in a matter of a year or two. It’ll take at least 3 years before they are even in real contention in the Eastern Conference.

JordanC20ParticipantThe sad thing is there should never be a lack of talent on a NBA team…these guys are supposed to be professionals they get paid millions of dollars to lose. How pathetic!

omphalosParticipant@JordanC20; that’s the most ridiculous statement I’ve heard in a long time. There isn’t a lack of talent on any NBA team, its just that some are more talented than others. Every NBA player has excelled on the basketball court at some point in their careers. Basketball more than many other sports, the quality of competition affects how well you perform.
@kngojc; to be fair, we don’t know anything about Ewing’s ability as a head coach, so I wouldn’t come right out and say that he should be moved to assistant coach down the line. Whoever they take this time around is going to be in it for the long haul, they’ve had too many coaching changes in the past five years, and some stability is more important than anything.

IndianaBasketballParticipantThe Bobcats will be a much more attractive coaching position when it’s known what pick they’ll have in the draft.

RUDEBOY_ParticipantFor some reason during Ewing playing days he never striked me as the type of player that would become a head coach..He didnt seem like the type to express his feelings……..
