After struggling in summer league there has been a lot of speculation on how to use Evan Turner and what position he’ll play.  He was very effective with the ball in his hands at Ohio State and struggled playing off the ball this summer.  Here is an article I found on insider.  What do you guys think? I always thought Williams played more like a combo guard so with Evan at point that could be a really good 2nd unit at the two guard positions.

The 76ers drafted Evan Turner with the idea that he’d be their future shooting guard, but the plan now is to start Andre Iguodala at that spot. He should get time backing up Iguodala and may also fill in at point guard when Jrue Holiday is on the bench.

During scrimmages this week the second unit played better with Turner at point guard and Lou Williams at shooting guard.

"What I saw was when Lou and Evan were together, when Lou was on the ball and Evan was off, they struggled, because Evan wasn’t sure and Lou didn’t do a very good job of getting us into our stuff," head coach Doug Collins told the Philadelphia Daily News. "Then we moved Evan to the ball and moved Lou and they both were good. So you can see where they’re most comfortable right now.

has only played one year as a point guard and that was last year because OSU had no stand out pg. He is not and has never been a natural point guard. He was successful because he was one of the best 2 players in the college. With his talent he would of had the same type of year even if Matta put him at the 2 or 3. Why make the transition to the NBA harder by putting him at the position with the most difference from college to NBA?

Because he is the type of player who is good off the dribble and creating shots for himself and others.   He can’t do those things as well coming off screens and shooting jumpers primarily.  I personally think he could do well playing both backup point and shooting guards.  He averaged something like 6 or 7 assists per game last year and he can be eased into it being able to come off the bench and play multiple positions.  His current coach even said he was playing better at the point this off season, If he is struggling to find his nitch and he seems more effective or confident playing point, I say go for it, I think his skill set and talent will allow him to do well there.

I really do not think Turner will be able to make it at PG for the Sixers. Many people believe that he can since Tyreke was able to make the transition last year, but Turner is not quick enough or as good of a passer to play the PG and guard other PG’s. If Turner began to play the point, he would start averaging over 3 turnovers per game. Also, would the sixers really give up rising star Jrue Holiday’s minutes for Turner? Sadly, with Iguodala, Lou, and Holiday, I really dont see Turner more than a 6th man off the bench.

he can do that starting or coming off the bench…On the bench with a scoring guard like Williams who can be like Tony Parker and bring thye ball up and get it right to Turner who can then make the best play for the team…James Harden is another guy playing that role for the Thunder…I’d be fine with Turner on the bench for this season….It gives him more time to create for the second team and that’s where he needs to be right now…This line up is good

    Holiday-Iggy-Thad Young-Brand-Hawes-Turner-Lou Will-Speights-Nocioni-Meeks-Battie-Kapono-Brackins

With that lineup Turner can play the backup Pg/Sg and Sf…Lou Will is instant offense and Speights is the 3 big man playing back up pf and C…Nocioni is the Tough veteran shooter and Meeks can hit the 3 too…Battie is the vet big and Kapono is also a shooter that expires this year…Brackins may or may not become a rotation guy as a back Pf while Speights plays 5 and Brand and Hawes are on the Bench…Noci will see minuts at Pf too…

I think you hit it dead on in that comparison. I definitely can see him as a slasher 6th man off the bench. If Evan Turner dramtically improves, he may not be the 1st or 2nd option on a good team, but could be good at hitting jumpers and driving to the hole.

He’s good enough to run with the starters from day one and be exposed a little bit by being the main scorer from day 1( lack of jumper not talent) but they have the luxary of starting a very versatile Andre Iguadola and Thad Young( A GUY THEY REALLY WANT TO SEE HOW GOOD HE IS…HE’S A FA…TIME TO NUT UP OR SHUT UP)

Now I think they can start Holiday/Iggy and Young and have Turner ease his way in the game and take over slowly but surely…Turner may be the next B.Roy or Grant Hill…He may a different player than we all expect…But at a solid 6’7 with decent speed and athletic ability with the skills he has he’ll be a good 2nd,3rd or 4th option on any contender…With Holiday emerging in his 2nd year and Iguadola coming off a gold medal playing in his natural role as Mr.Versatility/Defensive stopper/Fast break nightmare…They both have the keys and Turner and Thad becoming a force them selves is all this team needs to get it going in the right direction to glory…

If Thad can become a very good starter and fringe All Star like Tayshaun Prince became in Detroit this Team will be Great…I really see the similarities they have to each other…Thad though is a far better athlethe and has always had a more defined frame and above the rim game…Prince became a silient assassin beyond the arch and was always in the mix during the Championship run…

We need some talented Big Men right now…Brand is a solid piece because he’s tough and has a good low post game and adds toughness to your roster( WE HOPE ) But he would be best in the Horance Grant Role…The third big man that comes in a gets a double double off bench and looks like a stud for spot minutes each game…

Speights and Hawes are the 2 guys I have my attention on…Good big can change the look of your Franchise…If those two become the players they very well can be this team as a very bright future…They have as much offensive potential as any 2 bigs in the last few drafts and the only thing that has held these guys back has been a lack of focus and desire…If these guys finally " GET IT " then watch out…your looking at top team in the Eastern Conference…The more i think about the more I think we should have drafted Cousins…He reminded me of Rasheed Wallace so much…He could have been the key piece to a Championship contender…I was screaming for them to trade The 2nd pick for the $th and 16th…I really wanted Cousins and would have seriously thought of moving the 16th and Lou for the rights to Xavier Henry…even though getting a Big Ben type defender would have been my gut pick if I kept the Pick…
