NihochuParticipantSo this unexpected decision of Emmanuel Mudiay desiding to forgo college and begin his proffesional career has got me thinking … what if this was to become a trend? Theoretically (and of course this is not a reoccuring pattern amongst top American players) If more athletes like Mudiay, Jennings, and Tyler, elect to go pro, then i would think that the NCAA would be in a pretty bad situation. Losing the best players would equal less competitive basketball, and therefore less fans, less money coming in etc. I personally dont think there is anything wrong with a kid, who really does not want to pursue his education, going somewhere overseas to earn some money and play good basketball. At least the players who actually want a degree can still use the system to their advantage. I know that many top players electing to play overseas is not at all close, but if it ever became a trend, it could spell a real problem for the NCAA.

jonus grumbyParticipantimo the answer has always been to have a real developmental league. Why force players to pretend that they are student athletes and pretend that they are at a college to learn something other then how to play basketball. Let kids turn pro after HS and have a league for them to play in. Of course some players will turn pro who should not but that happens in every walk of life.

Lotto StudParticipantI’m very sure Sebastian Telfair would have took this route 10 years ago, if the 1 year rule was in effect at the time.

phila9012ParticipantI think it is better for a players future to play a few years in Europe if the kid is mentally tough enough to handle it. I hope eventually a few top level guys try that like what jeremy tyler did. It comes down to the guy/kid if it is successful. Branden Jennings had to deal with two a day practices, a coach prefered veterans and a whole different culture. That is definitely more benificial for young guys to go through that than play a year or 2 in college where they are one of the best players and have to deal with limited practice time and classes they don’t care about. One thing I think should happen is a european team should star marketting them selves to basketball players like mudiay and try to get them over there, and if they are able to get a few younger guys in their youth academies they would be able to develop them and reap some of the benefits when they got older. Also these players who need money could be bringing in paychecks for longer if they need the money
