BleedGreen808ParticipantJust read this article that ESPN did on what was pretty much a 5 team trade involving Miami, Phoenix, Milwaukee, Philly, and Boston at last year’s trade deadline. The deal sent Dragic to Miami, Knight to Phoenix, MCW to Milwaukee, the Lakers pick to Philly, and Isaiah Thomas to Boston.
I thought it was an interesting look into the thought process of the different teams and how they got involved in the trade. It even mentions how Boston was added to the trade minute before the deadline happened. So far Boston has won the trade by giving up Marcus Thorton and the Cavs 2016 1st round pick for IT who is an All Star this season.

Sewok15ParticipantBoston clearly won so far because Thomas is a way better overall player than most people had thought. I knew he could score but he has impressed me big time in Boston.
The Sixers made out pretty good as well trading former "ROY" MCW for what has a decent chance of being the #4 overall pick. They need pretty much an entire new group of wing players so having the potential to draft Buddy Hield or Jaylen Brown could be huge for the development of the team.
Philly was able to play up the value of MCW on their awful team. He won rookie of the year but he hasn’t looked as good since. In reality he is a PG that has problems with turnovers and can’t shoot. They are better off with Ish Smith who they traded a 2nd round pick to bring back this year when they should have just retained him in the first place.

NBAjunkie81Participantwhen they traded MCW for what looks like a Lakers 1st round Lottery pick….. & they got murdered for the Jrue Holiday trade the year before…… when they acquired Noel & New Orleans 2014 – 1st round pick………
which they used to shake down Orlando by floating an MCW trade rumor at the 2014 Draft – Phila took Dario Saric & got their 2017 1st round pick Back from Orlando (Doug Collins had traded it away as part of the Bynum Deal)…
And then people forget this part – by taking Embiid & Saric w/ their own pick (#3) & New Orleans (#10) – neither of whom played in 2014/15’……. They rescued their 2015 – 1st round pick….. which Doug Collins had traded to Boston for Arnotte Moultry…..
But the pick was Lottery protected & b/c Phila was terrible & not just mediocre that 2015 1st round pick did not transfer & Boston gets Phila 2nd round pick in 2016….. They used that #3 overall pick to take Jahlil Okafor…..
So trading MCW & drafting Saric & Embiid was part of a plan to recover that 2015 First round pick…. Looking back, those are some pretty slick moves……
Had the Sixers played the hand they were dealt & based on their personel at the time….. This would be their most likely line up today:
Jrue Holiday PG; Evan Turner SF; Thad Young PF; Steve Adams C (2013 pick instead of MCW who they would not have need b/c they keep Jrue Holiday) & Doug McDermott SG (Likely 2014 pick based on where they drafted in 2013 & who they needed)….. No extra 2013 or 2014 pick, No 2015 or 2017 pick; No Lakers Lottery pick; Miami, OKC, Denver & Sacramento All also owe them 1st round picks between 2016 & 2018…..
I’m not a Sixer’s fan but stepping back & looking at these moves – I think I like what they did long term…. ****I Luv what Boston did too….. No Saracsm intended – what do you guys think about how Phila played the hand that Doug Collins left them?

Hype MachineWhen Philly start winning more than they lose…I’ll consider whether it was worth the pain, humiliation and historical significance of being the first team in pro sports to intentionally stay bad.
For me, the under/over to make this worthwhile is 1 championship. Any less…and too much damage has been done.
As for the celtics…theyre the smartest.. like they always have been. The Spurs are the only other team that can match their front office for savvy.
