Tongue-Out-Like-23ParticipantIf the Miami Heat sign Erick Dampier, would this make them championship favorites over teams like the Lakers, Celtics, and Magic who all have very good bigmen?
It seems as if this is the only hole on the Miami Heat roster, with a decent PG, 3 superstar starters, a couple of sharpshooters off the bench, was a big bodied big man and Dexter Pittman was not going to fit the bill.

RUDEBOY_Participanti heard a miami sports talk show host say dampier will make his announcement friday afternoon……

Tongue-Out-Like-23ParticipantI’m not a Miami Heat fan but Dwyane Wade has been my favorite player since ’05 and I really want to see the Heat succeed again so I’m rooting for them.

cp33ParticipantI think they would be fine without Dampier. I mean, sure, another big body would be great to add, but Juwan Howard, Big Z, Bosh, Udonis Haslem, Joel Anthony, Magloire, and Dexter Pittman are all big bodies and can fill the 4 and 5 positions out nicely. IMO I think these guys could get the job done. Adding Dampier would be an ok move, mostly for insurance purposes. To be honest though, I just don’t think it makes them that much better of a team.

canesboy6ParticipantI think its huge for them. Not that Dampier is a big impact player, but he is competent, experienced, and knows what it takes to win. They not have a VERY deep stable of solid enough guys at the 5 spot, a supposed weakness for them. They have options, versatility, and the ability to keep fresh guys coming in at all times. They are much more prepared for injuries now.
Anthony, Dampier, Big Z, and whoever makes the cut of Pittman or Magloire would be right around the middle of the league as far as Center roations go. If they want live legs, they go Anthony, if they want a physical presence, Dampier, and if they want to stretch the court some, Big Z. That doesn’t even include the option of playing Bosh or Howard at C in certain situations.
Miami’s best 5 players are Wade, James, Bosh, Miller, and Haslem, and I expect by seasons end that ends up being the closing unit. For all the concern about rounding out the team, I’d say that they did a great job. The shooters are top notch, the interior defense is at good as you can expect for the price, and there is plenty of experience.
Only weaknesses right now is at PG and they could use an Athletic young wing defender. Although when they need a stop, Wade and James are more than Qualified, and Chalmers is a good defensive pg. I still want to see them find a way to get white Chocolate, don’t think Chalmers and Aroz con Pollo will get it done.

ChrischiParticipantThey have too many old bigmans, I don’t think Dampier would help alot. And he won’t lift them over the Lakers either. He is probably a little bit better than the bunch they already have but nothing too big.

HitsterParticipantDampier would be a solid addition but would he bring anything extra to what Big Z and Magloire would. I’d say at best it’s an extra body to help spread frontccourt minutes around Bosh.

gainsey15ParticipantI don’t know, I think this team will play it’s best on offense with Bosh at the 5 or Big Z at the 5, that would pull the other teams 5 away from the rim allowing Wade and Bron more room to create. On defense that’s another story lol

sacphil_08ParticipantSo miami is FAR from deep. They have a bunch of guys on their roster listed as "Centers" and "Power Forwards" but none of them are anything special outside of bosh and haslem (because of his hustle and grit) Erick dampier does not make them a contender. I mentioned in another post about dampier that he is slow, immobile and susceptible to biting on each and every pump fake that the opposing big throws at him. He’ll get rebounds, but outside of that he doesnt have a whole lot of use. I think its hilarious that people want to mention juwan howard all of a sudden when most people arent even aware where he played last year or the year before that. Outside of the big 3, miami is really lacking. Mike miller, eddie house and haslem will be the only other solid contributors. Let’s not be blind now…

billykParticipantMIA will run through the league (barring injury)….

sacphil_08ParticipantMiami will beat up on the bad teams, beat the majority of the average-above average teams, but i think have problems with LA, boston, orlando. I think theyll be one of those teams that wins 50+ games but their record against the top teams wont be all that great. That will eventually catch up to them come playoff time

Mr.Knick 32ParticipantIf Miami adds Dampier, I think there the team to beat.
He’s a big body who’s experienced. Then, the Joel Anthony, Big Z and Jamal Maglorie could come off the bench to spell him for 20-30mpg in a rotation.

billykParticipantMIA will having a winning record vs the Magic and Boston… Magic and Boston are tooo old and weak on the perimeter to match up aganist the HEAT..
