pman23ParticipantWhat do you guys think about this guy. I heard he has some great workouts so I think he might get drafted in the late 2nd round.

D HampParticipantWell, everyone knows I’m a big-time Devendorf fan, so let me start this off. Devo, 6 foot 4, can play and shoot. There are questions about his point guard skills but he can play. He’s a good feel and tenacity for the game. His only setback with the torn ACL, which occured about a year ago. He’s had some great workouts. He’ll probably go in the second round. If not for his competitive nature, then three years and one redshirt under Jim Boeheim.

auberParticipantGuys a Thug. He got a bad rep for allegedly beating down some chick all on his cock. To this day I don’t think that was the case, but his attitude and image are a cancer for an NBA organization. He was too “ME” oriented for the college game and I don’t think his game will transition to the NBA game. I don’t think he gets drafted, but because of his work out he will get a shot in the summer league. Take this from a guy who lives and works for Syracuse University.

pman23ParticipantI’m also a big syracuse fan. I really like Devendorf. He had a decent year at syracuse. In the 6 overtime game with Uconn, he did great. He made a lot of big shots. He has a little attitude problem but who cares. He will be a great player in the NBA.

D HampParticipant1. Thug??? Now wait a second Auber. He, much like me on this site at times, gets too much attention for the wrong reasons. Devo never hit that girl. She lied and admitted it. It’s why he only missed about three games. He paid his debt, did 100 hrs community service and that was it.
2. Race also plays a part. He’s white with tattoes everywhere and talks trash. Black players, I’m also black, get many tattoes and talk trash too, but when Devo does it, he’s trailer trash. Why can’t he talk trash, he isn’t breaking any laws.
3. I’m not exactly sure what you mean about me oriented. If you work at Syracuse, then you know everyone, include Gerry Mcnamara, said he was the best teammate ever. He always puts his teammates first.
4. What makes him a thug? Because most times, I respect you opinion.

gatorheelsParticipantIf the NBA had 3 rounds in this draft Devendorf still wouldn’t get drafted.

JNixonParticipantGatorheels, that was funny. But I dont see him drafted either, he will get a tryout for summer league though guaranteed

phsportsParticipantHis future is in Europe. His antics don’t fit right with the NBA.
That said, I won’t be shocked at all if he’s taken in the second round. He’s got the talent. GMs tend to shoot for the stars with these picks.

Knicksboy34Participantno way…he will need to show teams he is not a bad guy..(which he is, i live in the Cuse…you only hear the “reported” stories)
He could like 60 to MIA…other than that…undrafted.

D HampParticipantI think he’s Delonte West with a better jump shot.

auberParticipantI’m not saying he ever did, but to anyone who knew two shits about devendorf before then knew of his attitude problems not only with the team, but with Coach Boeheim himself. It got to a point this year where reports speculated Boehim wanted Devendorf off of the team next year so he could play Wesley Johnson and Brandon Tirche.
With Devondorf it’s not what he comes to us through image of the eye, his words and actions give us a tremendous look at his character. He’s just a sad case where his ego overreaches his talent and it’s a terrible thing to see that with this guy. I’ve had a few talks with him before and he seems like a good guy at nature, but you just get that vibe off him.
I think a lot of NBA teams are more concerned over his character than his actual game and that won’t get him very far in this league.

D HampParticipantYou still called him a thug. What makes him a thug? That is strong language, and it’s that tone that sometimes gives Devo the wrong image. It’s a snowball effect.
I concur with you about his image, which is sometimes exaggerated, but the NBA doesn’t always care about image. There are so many players who have been caught smoking marijuana. Look at Beasley and Chalmers last year. Now Devo isn’t on there talent level, but the NBA is full of headcases. There are at least two or three to every team.

sheltwon3ParticipantAuber who are you because you have said you have actually talked to this said player. Also what is this infatuation with calling basketball players that have urban background or styles thugs. People throw that word out to casual now.
0 - Posted on: Thu, 06/11/2009 - 12:38pm #161269

auberParticipantIf NBA teams are going to take a white guy they’d much rather have a pretty boy image of say guys of JJ Reddick, or Luke Ridnour. His image and character issues will hold him back from becoming something in this league. Go ahead and drop the Mike Bibby comment on me too cause I know that’s coming, but Devendorf was nowhere near the player Bibby was coming out of College.

Knicksboy34ParticipantI Think Devo thinks he’s going round 1….he acts so arrogant..

nyythemooseParticipantany scenario that gets devendorf drafted. he will play for some team in summer league and then either in Europe or the NBDL

D HampParticipantFor the third time, Auber how is Devendorf a thug????

auberParticipantSheltwon,
I worked for Syracuse University through Food Services at the Goldstein Student Center. It’s a popular Dining Hall among athletes so you’d always see Paul Harris and Devondorf showing up at some whack hours. I’ve made devo some pretty sick omelets back in the day.
I now work for the Carrier Dome Concessions department as a Concession Runner. I pretty much get paid to make sure everything is running smoothly throughout the various concession stands and catering operations of the Dome.
Hamp,
As for Devo, He just seems to me a genuine good guy with all the wrong intentions. I look at him like this, would I want a player of his image representing my franchise? I’d answer that question by saying no, he’s got too many red flags, his games me first and hes a cancer to the team chemistry. I’m sure when any scouts and/or NBA Gms are calling Jim Boehim for a letter of recommendation on the guy He will give you those answers and more. Devendorf is a great player that just never put it together and will see time in Europe over the NBA.

D HampParticipantAgain, how is he a thug??? You didn’t answer the question. That’s the problem. Stop calling him a thug if you don’t have proof. You keep providing excuses for calling him a thug. That’s what happens to a bunch of youngs kids in society today. Because call them degrading names and after a while they buy into it. People like you are degrading his image. He gets in one unjustified incident and people go haywire.
People call him a thug because he’s a white player with tattoes and he talks trash. Urban players do it everyday.Dhamp…the greatest basketball mind in the world. Next to Hubie Brown anyway.

rtbtParticipantIn my opinion he has the physical tools and skill set to be a successful bench player in the NBA. However, he lacks discipline, he makes poor on court decisions, and he seems to have a very low basketball IQ. Having said that, he wouldn’t be the first guy in the NBA with a strong skill set who isn’t very bright.
In sum, I think he will go somewhere from early to the middle of the 2nd round. And if he does make it in the NBA, it will be as a backup.

tac_bluesAuber, I respect the fact that you work at the university, and you can see that he may have a bad attitude. But you also said that teams may want to draft “pretty boys” instead of thugs. Well JJ Redick was arrested only a few weeks before being drafted for DUI. Does that look good to you as an NBA GM? Not particularly, but he went in the 1st round. I think if you’re good enough then attitude can be overlooked to a certain extent (i.e. Rodman, Rasheed, Artest etc.). The fact is the guy hasn’t got the talent level for the NBA, regardless of his attitude, whether he is a “thug” or not.
