I think Emmanuel Mudiay is being overrated. The thing that everyone seems to like about him is his athletic abilities. I personally don’t think he is in the class of Westbrook, Wall, or Rose (pre injuries) as far as his athletic abilities. Especially, his speed, quickness, and burst. I think playing in the Chinese league let him get away with this. The level of athletes and defenses he faced there were very poor compared to NBA standards. I think this will cause him to struggle, especially when this is combined with his poor shooting abilities. In my opinion he does not fit in the very skilled point guard class of Curry, Irving, Paul, and as I mentioned earlier in my opinion is not the athlete of a Westbrook, Wall, or Rose (pre injuries). I think he can turn into an alright starter, but I think he will struggle to meet the star expectations everyone is placing on him. This is just my opinion, let me know what you all think.

Russell Westbrook and Derrick Rose are one of a kind type of athletes. John Wall has one of a kind type of speed. Mudiay clearly doesn’t have that type of athleticism, but he’s a great athlete and has some change of pace/speed to his game. Plus he’s a big and powerful guard…

I’m still one of those who thinks he can be a star at his position. It’ll depend on how quickly he improves his jump shot.

I think a lot will depend on fit and opportunity.

Does he have the size to play sg? I’m thinking of a Wade when he entered the league.

Mudiay’s driving ability, strength and level of athleticism remind me a lot of Tyreke Evans (who’s also not the greatest shooter).  I think becoming Tyreke Evans with better passing/PG ability is a realistic outcome of what Mudiay could be.

While I kind of agree that Mudiay is stuck between the athletic class and the skilled class of PGs, I think he is properly rated if not underrated in the 5-7 range. Between his size, passing and scoring at the rim, I think Mudiay has a chance to be a solid lead guard. If he were 6’2 I’d be worried, but he’s just such an impressive physical specimen that I could see him being a really good player on the right team.

I been up and down with him. But one thing I believe I’m right is his athleticism and speed has been overrated. As a player I think he is in between Jeff Teague and Jrue Holiday.

Somewhere between 2 ACL artists, one 22 YO and one retired.

    Tony Wroten-Baron Davis.

I agree and have been saying for quite sometime that I believe he has a similiar skill set to Baron Davis.  Not sure Mudiay will ever be a great 3point shooter but decent enough where you’ll have to guard him out there and he’ll have his games where he lights it up.  Just like Baron Davis.
