Im Your FatherParticipantThis a question for Sixers fans who watch him play regularly. What happened to him, why has he been playing so badly? Is it just that his injury has taken away the mobility and agility that used to be his strong suit? Is it something else?
I am a Duke fan and he has always been one of my favorite NBA players and it sucks to look at the boxscore and see him struggling like he did last night.

Lemons4LifeParticipantIt’s just the age and injuries are getting to him. Maybe play him less, but have him come in a quarter or two and if he’s doing good keep him playing.

the microwaveParticipantback to back injuries… Last yr he hurt his sholuder and missed the majority of the season. So i dont know… Im not sold on him being done, but hes got to show some aggresiveness / confidence out there.. We didnt take him to be a role player, he was picked up to take over games, especially in the half court set.

The Big Ofrom a PG perspective
the 76ers have 2 very efficent fast break dunkers, I think u know their names
they need someone to ignite the fast break how do u ignite the fast break?Blocks and steals and opponents forcing up bad shots
from a big man’s perspective contesting shots and making the opponent force up bad shots and blocking shots r the easiest way to come by fast breaks
Elton Brand’s inclusion on the 76ers roster doesn’t make sense
now that u think of it Dalembert and Speights would probably work with Dalembert guarding the best big man
and Speights guarding the weaker offensive playerI know Dalembert’s IQ is low sometimes as far as defensive rotations but 1 on 1 he SOMETIMES does a solid job of keeping the better post players off the block (Dwight Howard)
but that’s just all from a retard’s perspective lol
“We didnt take him to be a role player, he was picked up to take over games, especially in the half court set”
he is a role player, the 76ers are a fast break team, that take over on defensive end and in transitionElton Brand’s inclusion on the 76ers roster contradicts itself
yeah he’s a tough rebounder
but he’s a slow halfcourt post player who demands the ball on an athletic run and gun team (shaq and the Suns 2.0)
he does NOTHING to IGNITE/CONTRIBUTE to the FAst Breakthe 76ers r wrecked lol
but never mind me, how do U think Elton Brand fits on this roster

JNixonParticipantYea he was supposed to be the guy that gave us the added dimension because we are/were already lethal in transition, but he’s not played anything like he had before in his career. He’s more like a big bodied, role-playing grinder instead of the 20-10-and-2 player he was in Chicago and LA. We need that! Now it’s not Dalembert messing up and being the weak link, it’s Brand. I say let Speights play and bring Brand off the pine and keep whoever in depending on the flow of the game and who’s the hot hand.

The Big O^I agree^
Brand contradicts the fast break identity, just being honest0 - Posted on: Thu, 10/29/2009 - 10:51am #224785

Im Your FatherParticipantI guess the thing is he didn’t used to be a role player at all. He was big bodied, and yet quick and nimble on his feet. He was a great athlete and had an excellent post game with well developed moves. Now he doesn’t seem to be able to run up and down the court, which I guess has had to do with his injuries.

the microwaveParticipantin playoffs you cant fast break all game long lolol. The game slows down in the playoffs, which if you watch b-ball playoffs you know what im talking about. (brand was picked to be a half court scorer)…. Remember Pistons series? When they stopped us from running, what did we do? We turned the ball over, and literally had no one who could take over… he was signed to do something that he has yet to show. Injuries or not, he has not gotten it done. (teams cant just flat out run in the playoffs)… Comp gets better / D gets tigher, less transition, but you covered all 5 positions LOL so you should know this.

The Big OThis Just In From Philly!:
The 76ers are “reprogramming” the only former all-star on their roster: power forward Elton Brand.
“I think he was a 20-10 guy with a team that really catered to him and didn’t have enough scoring in other positions,” coach Eddie Jordan said of veteran power forward Elton Brand. No matter how you view the Sixers this season – which begins tonight at Orlando – you can see that head coach Eddie Jordan is tailoring Brand’s role: a few snips here, tightening things there.
Sixteen months and one shoulder surgery ago, Brand looked to be the Sixers’ low-post, go-to option.
Now he is regaining rhythm and strength after back-to-back season-ending injuries, the first of which was a torn Achilles tendon as a Los Angeles Clipper during the 2007-08 season. He’s also returning to a team that’s already developed several scoring options – swingman Andre Iguodala, forward Thaddeus Young, guard Lou Williams – and that’s currently developing Jordan’s Princeton offense.
So what is Brand’s role? And is there a disconnect between what the Sixers need from him and what he’s determined to give?
During eight preseason games, Brand averaged 9.5 points, which was fifth among players healthy all preseason. Before coming to the Sixers, the 30-year-old Brand had career averages of 20 points, 10 rebounds.
Brand said the preseason was no indication of where his game is.
“You’re playing different minutes, you’re playing with different players, you play six minutes in the first quarter, you don’t play the second quarter, you know what I mean?” Brand said. “Talking to Coach it’s like, ‘Here’s where you need to be on offense.’ We’re working through it.”
Jordan said Brand’s role is somewhat different than he had in the past.
“I think he was a 20-10 guy with a team that really catered to him and didn’t have enough scoring in other positions,” Jordan said. “Right now we have other guys who can score, we have guys coming off the bench; we have a deep bench. I just want him to be efficient, and execute for his teammates and for himself.”
Brand admitted the offense challenges him to get the ball in a different way. For most of his career, he ran to the low block and waited for his touches. Within the Princeton, he’s on the wing, on the elbow, at the top, and only sometimes on the block.
“It is different than the traditional way I get the ball,” Brand said.

The Big OROLE PLAYER, but y’all lil kids know more than me
0 - Posted on: Thu, 10/29/2009 - 12:25pm #224812

Im Your FatherParticipantYes he is a role player, but that does not mean that he was always one. He was a star in the NBA for many years. That is what happens when you are decimated by injuries.
