Michael.S.ParticipantSources say they are in talks for that deal. Seems like they are trying to aquire him in hopes it will help with G.S. new defense first mentality and culture under Mark Jackson….opinions? via ESPN’s gay azz.

burningfloodParticipantI would be so happy if an Ellis for Iggy straight up went through. Ellis is a good scorer, but awful on defense, and is too small; Iggy complements Curry far better.
I don’t see why Philly would do this, though; they’ve got Lou Williams already. Still, PPG is overrated in the league, and Ellis can sure put up the points…

Mr. 19134ParticipantBoth teams need this. Iggy will instantly make Golden State a better team by providing size, versatility, and a veteran presence. G.S. won’t miss Ellis’ scoring with Iggy on their team facilitating and locking down their opponents best scorer, while Curry should flourish playing alongside Iggy. Curry, Iggy, D. Wright, Lee, Udoh, with possibly Chris Singleton coming off the bench gives Golden State a tougher team, that actually would become more athletic enabling them to still play the transition game.
Turner will step right into Iggy’s role as he proved to be an outstanding defender as a rookie. During the Miami series Turner guarded Lebron better then anybody else on the team including Iggy. Jrue is big enough to guard 2guards so size in the back court won’t be a problem. Ellis gives the Sixers the natural scorer they’ve been missing since the A.I. trade and also makes plays on defense by hawking passing lanes.
I don’t see why this trade don’t happen although I still think dealing Iggy for Kamen is a better option.

Mr. 19134ParticipantLou Williams isn’t capable of putting a team on his back for an entire game like Ellis can. I’d rather have Turner playing small forward and a Ellis and Holiday in the back court. Collins defensive schemes will cover up for Ellis’ defensive misques tho Ellis isn’t a horrible defender he just too skinny and short to guard 2 guards consistently. Holiday is built like Wade and won’t have trouble guarding 2 guards.

SmooveKRYPTParticipantI love this trade for both sides. adding Iggy obviusly improves the perimeter D for GS, but offensively it should space the floor better. They could actually run some plays for Curry coming off screens for shots like he did in college while having Wright spot up in the corner and David Lee man the high post.
Philly needs another guy who can consistently get his own shot no matter who is guarding him. Monta has the quickness to get in the paint and is one of the best finishers among little guys in this league. He’s also money on that mid-range pull up. Philly has capable guys of picking up the defensive slack left by Iggy. They could slide Turner in as the starting 3 and bring Thad Young & Lou Will off the bench for a punch.
Really hope this trade happens.

ilike.panochasParticipantIf this trade is to happen Philly will need to add more pieces because Iggy has regressed every year, while Monta was a borderline All-Star this season. I wouldn’t do this trade if I was the Warriors, unless it included Iggy and Spencer Hawes in the deal or a conditional 1st round pick.

nateoak10ParticipantJerry West on the trade (and other things): http://blogs.mercurynews.com/kawakami/2011/06/06/jerry-west-on-mark-jackson-joe-lacob-michael-malone-the-latest-monta-ellis-report-and-more/ Makes 0 sense for Philly, why do they need more guards?

The Scare Crow ReturnsParticipantThe Allen Iverson era left a terrible taste in our management’s mouth, and with Lou Williams already on board I see no reason to bring in another ball hog…If Iggy goes to GS it’ll be for Biedrins, Wright and the 11th pick in the draft, before last year Monte was just as bad as anyone immaturity wise, what’s changed since that point, Philly’s needs are not addressed with this trade, in fact we take a huge step backward defensively and chemistry wise, we didn’t draft Turner to play defense and pass the ball to a gun, we drafted him to pair with Holiday and Iguadola, give this team time to grow or make a play for a C(Kaman or Kanter) but do not trade a great team guy for a mercenary like Ellis…As much as we need scoring we don’t need it that bad…horrible deal and its no wonder it never got further then the web pages of bleacher report . Com …

The Scare Crow ReturnsParticipantI’m shocked to see you’d like a trade like this …it does absolutely nothing but give our city another “ghetto approved” sports star, we gain some street credibility and another player that cares more about stats and tattoos than he does winning…and If you feel like Holiday can guard 2G’s and is built like Wade(which sadly he isn’t, Wade is built like a tank now and Holiday is still a bit thin for his frame) then why wouldn’t we draft or trade for a big Pg Guard to play off Holiday, do we have already in Turner??? I am in a small group of true Philly fans that does not want our team to regress and trade proven defenders and team players for stat padding street ball wannabees…especially when they’re not as good as people peg them to be, the Sixers made more noise last season without a ball hogging G like Ellis and can trade Iguadola for some real size(you know the thing teams value more than scoring Guards because it actually bring you closer to winning championships)

HarbingerIggy and Evan have similar games.Monta ellis is a scorching gaurd we have trouble at times getting points. Jru,young, evan is getting better , and even brand(one of the best pass lane defender in the league) are good defensive players.People forget the warriors never had defensive players. With the exception of tony allen and a few others, there is not one player who can stop another player without help, defensive switches, somebody blocking the driving lane when your beat.It would be incredible hard to stop a player just by your self its a team game lets see how monta does now.People dont often take consideration at the pace monta plays everynite over a 82 game season YOUR GOING TO BE TIRED TRY gaurding and scoring nba players not even the stars is going to be more difficult then it normally would.Theres more possessions the opposing sg should put up good numbers.
Last but not least we have to trade him and get something back worth value. Andre ( he doesnt like to be called iggy, Im saying this for a reason) wants to be traded. After haveing a great season then losing to a team thats in the finals, winning the number 2 pick and drafting a player with a high upside, getting a new coach who cold have been coach of the year why leave. He has many reasons I bet but the most important my city shows "ANDRE" no love. He’s the blame for everything even tho hes a small forward player sg out of team need.Hes an underrated shooter hes not the best off the dribble but leave him wide open and he has high chance to knock it down play him off te dribble or construct a defense with him at the primary tagert to stop it will be hard for him to make those shoots hes not a carmello durant hes not a gaurd at all. he hits cluth shoots big shoots at times but the local news only shows the game winning shots he misses.Come to philly and ask 20 people is Andre a bum 15 will undoubtedly say he is.The city backs talks him so much I can see him not wanting to be here his heart isnt here at most times. Mines wouldnt be either if i made 13 million and the fans hated me I would just come to work and collect my pay.As he does

HarbingerSixers front office GM Ed Stefanski is the worst gm but his ties with the owner is the only reason hes still here. Passing on Josh Smith to put Brand in a up tempo team was a bad move.I say we have a fire sale if anything if you want Andre you have to take Brand as well.

The Scare Crow ReturnsParticipantThey hate any player that doesn’t have some stupid ass street credibility…yeah they would love Monta Ellis, he plays no defense, over dribbled, takes bad shots, is a defensive liability every night, is covered in tattoos, wrecked his ankle and almost ended his career being an idiot while driving a moped(not to mention violating terms of his contract) and we want him in Philly as our Sg??? What are you all smoking, I love Iguadola as a player, its a Damn shame people in Philadelphia can’t see past their stupid hood mentality…it seriously spills over to our sports teams, Allen Iverson and Michael Vick are more beloved than Doctor J and Donovan Mcnabb Wtf is that about…good guys like Andre are obviously not welcomed in our city, they’re not respected as players because they don’t have criminal records and tattoos covering their entire bodies…honestly the Franchise is putting all those rumors to bed and turning the Culture around, Guys like Brand,Battie and Nocioni are there instead of Derrick Coleman and Chris Webber(both had terrible attitudes in Philly)…we are drafting high character kids like Holiday, Turner and Thad(Speights needs to drop the M16 nickname, its very inappropriate for a city that has so much gun violence) we are not interested in knuckle heads like Ellis(i don’t care if he was on his best behavior last year, losing your credibility in the league can have that effect, but if you bring him to Philly where he’ll be encouraged to be the next AI he will seriously ruin this franchises hope for success)…I know basketball but I know about character a lot more, I’m a mentor to youth in my city and we don’t need Monta becoming an influence to kids the community, we are still reeling from the AI era, and have just started to turn that corner, why go back to that??? Are a few more points a game really worth that headache, we are no stranger to this type of influence, sure it was fun when were all kids, but we as a city and culture have to rise above and mature, its long over due…

SwatLakeCityParticipantSixers lineup before the trade: Holiday, Meeks, Iggy, Brand, Hawes
Sixers lineup after trade: Holiday, Ellis, Turner, Brand, Hawes.
Which lineup is better? DUH the second one. You have a much better SG. You break up Turner and Iggy who are essentially the same player. People have been saying ever since Turner was drafted that the combo would never work. And truly it didn’t. Now Turner can much better defend the 3 then Iggy ever could and he doesn’t have to live under the shadow of Iggy. Yes, they already have a scorer like Ellis in Luo Williams, but he is a weaker version of Ellis. Ellis is a scoring maniac, while Williams is a boost of offense and plays better as a 6th man than he does as a starter. (Why do you think the Sixers have turned the starting duties over to Holiday even though Williams is the more veteran player?)
Warriors lineup before the trade: Curry, Ellis, Wright, Lee, Udoh
Warriors lineup after the trade: Curry, Iggy, Wright, Lee, Udoh.
Which lineup is better? There almost the same except for the second is a little bigger than the first one. And I think that what’s the Warriors wanted. They wanted to get bigger because they felt that that is what they lacked defensively. This team is all about getting better defensively ever since their new ownership.
This deal really works out well for both teams.

Price – Jones – Rush – Hansbrogh – Foster
GSW gets: Iggy
Curry – Iggy – Wright – Lee – Biedrins
2nd rounder – Bell – Williams – Udoh – 1st rounder

Holiday – Turner – Granger – Brand – 1st rounder

The Scare Crow ReturnsParticipantEllis can score somewhere else next year, he won’t be doing it in a Sixers uniform…the Sixers need size at C and a bigger and better Meeks type(since your all convinced Turner is a Sf now)…Ellis can’t play C and he can’t spread the floor for the team like Meeks could…if I’m trading Iguadola I want a C at the very least, not another ball hog…I’d rather take on Kaman and Foye then trade for Ellis…Id rather pay Iguadola and Brand than take back Ellis…I feel like I’m the only one with a real basketball iq sometimes…my one question is this, who does Monta Ellis guard in the Heat vs. Sixers series, and does he stand a chance at guarding Wade and Lebron like Iguadola did…why trade one of the few guys in the league that guard both and get his own shot…Iguadola is not the problem in Philadelphia, its their brain dead tan base that keeps hating on him for not being AI or Lebron…let Iguadola be, he’s a great defender and 2nd option scorer, Just let Turner grow into the # 1 guy on offense…name me 5 better Sf’s…now name me all the Sg’s that are better than Ellis…I’ll wait…

The Scare Crow ReturnsParticipantBird hates players like Monta, why would he really want to trade his franchise player for a 6’3 gun…c’mon man…
0 - Posted on: Tue, 06/07/2011 - 6:21am #541025

BKKnicksfanParticipantMonta Ellis is a better player for Iggy so why don’t you want him? In terms of value, this is probably the best value your gonna get for Iggy….
0 - Posted on: Tue, 06/07/2011 - 6:54am #541043

apb540ParticipantThis trade could certainly help out my Sixers if Turner can play the SF. He has never had to do it before so I have no clue how it will turn out. He is a good rebounder so that’s a start I guess.
As far as Ellis on this team, I would like the one-two scoring punch of Ellis-Turner. Having two guys who can create for themselves is deadly in the fourth quarter. Defensively, Jrue is big enough and tough enough to guard 2s, and depending on the opponent, Ellis is capable of guarding a 2 all game.
What this does not help is the Sixers need for a center. If we don’t get a defensive center to go with this team, we are going to be no better than a 5th seed. And Scare Crow, what is up with you and the "street cred" thing? Just cuz AI and Vick fit your description, do you realllllly think the city loves them soley for their "street cred?" Not cuz they r all world at their sport? Chase Utley and Cliff Lee might be the two most beloved sports figures in Philly and they are not tatted up. Just sayin’

aamir543ParticipantI wasn’t very excited about this intially, being a Warriors fan, but then I realized that Iggy plays lock down D, creates for others, rebounds a bit, and he can also score. And he does complement Curry alot better than Ellis would. Now the 76ers aren’t getting ripped off as far as value goes, but they are stacked at the guard postition. making this trade would be like GS, trading its guard log jam problem to the Philly. And Lou Will, Holliday and Ellis, good luck with that.
0 - Posted on: Tue, 06/07/2011 - 7:17am #541061

apb540ParticipantI think Lou Williams might just be the odd man out here. I would love to send him somewhere in a package for a big man.
0 - Posted on: Tue, 06/07/2011 - 8:02am #541082

delfamParticipantTurner can definetly play SF, he guarded Lebron James very well in the playoffs. Everybody knows the Sixers need a scorer and this should be a good trade for both sides.
0 - Posted on: Tue, 06/07/2011 - 8:51am #541110

BKKnicksfanParticipantI much rather see
- Holiday
- Ellis
- Young
- Brand
- Hawes
With Turner as the sixth man. I think he shouldn’t start mainly because I don’t think he could defend guys like Carmelo, LeBron and Durant.
0 - Posted on: Tue, 06/07/2011 - 9:32am #541125

I May Be WrongParticipantI love that you are a huge Sixers fan just like myself but I cannot believe that you are ignoring Monta Ellis’ value to this young Sixers team. I watched all 82 games and the playoffs and I may be just a young man living in the subrubs outside of Philly, but even I know the Sixers need Monta!
There were too many games where the Sixers were just lost on offense because they did not have that GO-TO guy on Offense. Brand was solid, but he’s not that man he once was. Iggy is solid, but it’s easy to defend him. Just force Iggy to shoot. He loves ot dribble, dribble, dribble, and then force a shot that he makes harder rather than just taking a simple jumper. I agree, Philly fans are harsh on him because he def. a better player than most people believe in Philly. But he will always be that second option. II’m not sure if Evan Turner can be that number 1 option as you mentioned as well.
Ideally, If the Warriors wanted a package that revolved around Evan Turner and some pieces for Monta, then I would have love that and that would allow Iggy to flourish as the second option while Monta took the scoring load and Jrue continued to improve. Unfortuantely, the Warriors want value back and having a top notch perimter defender like Iggy is a scrafice that we need.
I think it’s unfair to assume that Monta would "be loved by hood people" only. I think I know what you are trying to say but from what I’ve read, heard, and seen Monta is a humble country guy. He loves his family down south and looks like he has a passion that not many players have in the league. Yes, he did mess up early in his career with that foolish injury BUT he came straight from High School and I don’t expcet everyone to be as mature as they should be right away. I want to compare DeSean Jackson and Monta. Have you ever heard D-Jack talk? He is just as "hood" as you can claim but Philly LOVES him. He’s got that swagger about him that makes the Eagles a dynamic team. This is where Monta could come in and bring that excitement that we haven’t seen since the AI days
And you can’t downplay what Coach Collins will do for Monta. Monta played in a GSW system where defense was an option YET he still got about 2 steals a game. While he does lack in height, his speed makes getting deflections easy and that will lead us to a faster tempo (which is where Jrue, Thad, and Turner thrive)
The only way I would think Iggy for Monta was a bad trade would be if the Warriors wanted our pick. I don’t want that because I know we can get a quality big man to learn from Brand for a couple of years. We still need depth at the center spot but that can be addressed through free agency or trades (possible candidates to be traded are Lou Williams because he also has a lot of value and Speights because he’s still young (although he is a huge defensive liability)
0 - Posted on: Tue, 06/07/2011 - 12:42pm #541205

SmooveKRYPTParticipantyou want 5 SF’s better than Andre? 1. LBJ 2. KD 3. Melo 4. Pierce 5. Granger…there’s about 3 more.
SG’s better than Monta? Wade, Kobe, Manu, Joe Johnson, K-Mart, Gordon, Tyreke(agruable)
you sure aren’t getting any of those guys, so how is Monta not good value? You guys talk about him like he’s an inefficient gunner…lets not forget the guy scored 20 a game while shooting over 50% in 08. He had no choice but to take more shots when they blew up the team & let go of Baron & Jax in back to back years. When he plays with guys who can get their own shot off the bounce he has no problem giving up the rock and playing off-ball. But it’s just been him & Curry who have the ability to do so the past 2 seasons, so of course he’s gonna get his. bottom line, the guy gets buckets and Philly needs someone who can do that at any point in the game…you’re not gonna find much better than Monta.
