 Really big fan of him. He’s just a really smart, heady player. Great insticts and feel for the game. Classic PG in the sense he runs the offense, he’s a leader, sets his teammates up, just see’s the floor really well. Very good on defense, athletic along with his great instics he has a desire to play defense. Yes, he’s a bad shooter, to the point Orlando might not be able to pair him up with Oladipo and one might get traded if they can’t improve their 3 point shooting. It’s kinda strange that a guy who has such a good feel for the game of basketball can’t figure out his jump shot, hopefully he can improve on that, because if he can, he will be a great plyer.

He really is similar to Rondo but plays withing the team, unlike Rondo who just wants to rack up assists and on defense just does whatever the hell he wants trying to get steals.

Can we please Rondo credit, wth happened to everyones oppinion of him? after the big three split he wanted to still be able to be an allstar, he couldnt do it and tbh tried to play entire games thru him like he was Chris Paul, but young Rondo with the big three was not a stats padder, he was a top playmaker, while bringing great all up in your face defense. 

Maybe Im wrong, but my perception of things is that people talk about Rondo like he was some sort of ball hog- stat padder while in reality he was making arguments of being the best PG in the game at one point, by not only members from the site but ESPN analysts as well (no link, but i remember)

I’m talking about Rondo today, he just picks and chooses when he’s locked in or just mail it in. Yes he was great back then, but he’s not as motivated and he’s lost a step with the knee injury. I’m not trying to deminsh what he’s done in the past, but that’s the past and been a long time.

 I’m a Celtics guy. Even when Rondo fell off being a defender for the Celtics Maine stream sports analysts didn’t catch on, and routinely still referred to him being a great defender. A lot of Boston sports analysts were saying he isn’t the defender he once was. Rondo himself even admitted since the Celtics got Avery Bradley he stopped playing defense. I cant find the video, but he said something else, when he got traded to Dallas I have to start playing defense now because I don’t have Avery Bradley anymore. The CSN sports analysts were saying he shouldn’t have said it because it was salt on a open cut that he stopped trying and was padding his stats. I’m afraid a divorce between Elfrid and Victor is inevitable. And if I were Orlando, I would lean towards keeping Payton for 2 reasons:

The first is that I believe Payton could be an above average Point Guard on a team with three consistent outside shooters. He has great court sense, and can get to the cup if there’s an opening in a hurry with his speed. Once he gets inside the paint, he can finish strong (something he still needs to work on though) or he can hit the open man behind the arc when the defense collapses.

The second is that I believe Oladipo has more trade value, and could net the most in return if he was the centerpiece of a deal. Oladipo is a guy who needs the ball in his hands to be effective, and needs to play next to a PG who takes care of the ball but doesn’t run the offense exclusively, plays good D, and averages around 2+ 3pm per game. A player like George Hill of the Pacers for example. Plus, Orlando has 2 good shooters in Fournier & Hezonja that can play either the 2 or 3 immediately and in the future if Oladipo were moved. 

Payton has not had a great 2nd season in Orlando, but I don’t think it’s entirely his fault. His minutes have been played with, Oladipo has handled the rock a lot relegating Payton to play off the ball about 1/3 of the time (which is not his game). So to the OP’s opening point, I think Payton can be an above average point guard (10-14 league ranking range) with a more suitable surrounding cast. Whether that’s on Orlando or another team is something to watch as soon as this trade deadline or the upcoming off-season.

 Not good enough. Rondo is a team player. People judge after ACL surgery and they hate we know they hate. He gets a triple D he is padding. Russell gets them he balling out. We get it double standard for him. Is it possible for a 6ft1 pg to get triple D’s regularly without effort?  No. Must be real good if he can without effort. Has his ring wich only Curry and Parker can say in this L. He is one of the best pg in the game some people hate him it is what it is. Elfrid is not on his level though, be serious.
