Lotto StudParticipantI just recently went to Selby’s player profile & couldn’t help, but notice his updated player comparison. The first time I seen his comparison if I recall right was Steve Francis/Vernon Maxwell. I just would like to say if you took heed to my Selby=Bayless comparison I appreciate you for doing so. I may get 1000000000 negatives for this post but it is what it is. I want to let it be known that Aran watches when we don’t think he is.
Which Aran comparisons have you seen recently that you do not agree on?

The lake show2Nope. Not even half the player Bayless was at the same point in college. He needs to prove what he can do before i make a comparison. Too many people are just going by what he did in H.S but they fail to realize this isn’t H.S anymore

Jared Sullinger=Kevin Love (Elton Brand)
Derrick Williams=David West/Micheal Beasley (Antwaun Jamison/Danny Granger)
Jimmer Fredette=Mark Price/Eddie House (Ben Gordon)
Before I saw Perry Jones compared to T-mac but many times I said on other forums that he reminds me of Anthony Randolph and just yesterday I was looking at his comparison and I noticed that it had been changed to that same player.

BKKnicksfanParticipantWord, I agree. Bayless was 1000000 times better then Selby in college. He made the right choice coming out too, even though his career has been less then spectacular.

butidonthavemoneyNo doubt that Bayless was more productive in college than Selby. However, the two have similar playing styles/tendencies and could be similar players in the NBA. I think that’s a very good comparison.

Aran is the Most interesting man in the draft bizz.
I don’t usually think high of "draft-niks" but whenever I decide….I’ll vote Aran Smith

butidonthavemoneyI don’t — nor have I ever — seen Selby as much more than a backup guard. He has potential, but so does Bayless.

WizardofOzParticipantI think it’s a good comparison. No doubt Bayless was the better college player as a freshman, but they both have similar traits. They both have similar heights and short arms, are both combo guards, and they both play aggressive, even though Selby hasn’t really played aggressive this season.

delfamParticipantlakeshow is right, that Bayless comparison is horrible, the comparison would be good if Selby was still in high school, but he’s not. He’s not playing nearly the way he did in high school and the comparison is not good anymore. It’s really hard to compare anyone to him cause he hasn’t really played enough and shown us anything at all yet.

The lake show2I can name a bunch of players who had similar traits as Bayless. Slasher, athletic, fast. But it doesn’t mean i will compare them if they haven’t proved that they can show it consistently in a game. If Selby wasn’t a H.S All American and people never seen a highlight or seen him play in H.Sand just went by what he has done in college against better comp, the comparison wouldn’t even be thought of being made. Its like Barnes and Kobe, He’s proven he can play but the comparisons were made because of what he did in H.S. Its all about proving it/earning it to me its not just given because of what you did in H.S once you start playing college.
It might have been more appropriate when he was in H.S because that’s all we could go by but now we can go by what he has done in College against better competition

OhCanada-ParticipantI think hes saying Selby will play similar to how Bayless plays in the NBA. Athletic, backup PG, great athletisism, tons of ranger and potential. I think its a right on comparison.

The lake show2Based off of what? And dont include H.S because he’s in college now and should be judged against college competition. When he was scoring he was scoring off of threes and even then didn’t get to the whole with ease. Doesn’t sound anything like Bayless to me. And after those good games he hasn’t been hitting his shots, getting to the basket, or dropping dimes

delfamParticipant^ pretty much, you can’t judge him off of high school. Based off college he’s been pretty bad, with how he’s playing now I’d say he compares to Willie Green. Obviously he can improve on that as he has huge potential, but at this point he’s no Bayless.

The lake show2Dexter Strickland is more comparable to Bayless right now then Josh selby. Not the best of shooter’s but gets in the lane at will and is pretty quick

HaleParticipantQuincey didn’t you compare your nephew to Grant Hill? Has he lived up to that? No. Selby had a lot that went wrong, and next year will probably show why he was a HS AA. Give him a break.
