Mr.Knick 32ParticipantAccording to Alex Kennedy from Hoopsworld, The Lakers are talking to Derrick Character for a contract.
The Lakers have space for 1 contract left. This means if Character signs, Ebanks would not be joining the Lakers. He hasn’t signed a contract.

OldSkoolBasketballParticipantwell Derrick did have the better SL performance. Maybe they will cut someone else to have room for Ebanks? If not I can see the Spurs pick him up.

Mr.Knick 32ParticipantHe just tweeted that Both Ebanks and Character have started negotations.
This must mean Luke Walton will probably retire and they sign Shannon Brown?

OhCanada-ParticipantCaracter…
Trading contracts could create Roster space, and dont think that the Lakers are done adding pieces this offseason. I know how much you would like to see the Lakers make a deal for Chris Paul Knicksboy.

Mr.Knick 32ParticipantOh, I would love LA to get Paul!

OhCanada-ParticipantWhy would Walton retire? He still has 3YRS 17 Million on his contract. Even if his oppurtunity in the NBA has passed him and he is bought out he could get plenty of money overseas. He could also easily be an NBA journeyman like Kobe Karl.

Mr.Knick 32ParticipantWalton has had terrible back injuries and some people have expressed belief he might retire.

stanford hoopsyou do know having 12 players is just the min you can have right?..you can have up to 15 if im not mistaken and the lakers kept 13 last year and lukes healthy concerns makes it pretty realistic that they will sign ebanks even if luke doesnt retire

OhCanada-ParticipantI doubt he retires when he as an option just to play like crap and give a half assed effort. As disgusting as it sounds it is true 17 Million dollars…What would you do?
0 - Posted on: Fri, 07/23/2010 - 1:51pm #361534

Mr.Knick 32ParticipantYea, I know 15 is the max but in terms of players dressing up they have one roster spot for a player who’s gonna be available to play on the bench.
I do think Luke will not retire and take the 17 mil but we’ve seen crazier things and it is a option that was thrown out there.

Bryant24ParticipantI hpe we can sign ebanks and chacarter they both played good in summer league and they both can help us 3 peat

stanford hoopsone of the two prob wont dress up every game or theo wont dress up every game because to be honest he wont be needed most of the time just like benga wasnt needed most of the time.

IndianaBasketballParticipantYea… I don’t think there’s a problem here. Both Ebanks and Character will be signed.

llperezi dont get it, some of you guys act like they have to set the roster at 12 and everyone else can never play. The team often moves guys in and out of the twelve man active roster during the season.

IndianaBasketballParticipant“The Lakers have space for 1 contract left. This means if Character signs, Ebanks would not be joining the Lakers. He hasn’t signed a contract.”
Obviously that’s just not accurate. I think this thread was created without thinking… There are enough roster spaces available to sign both of them. Once again… I don’t see a problem at all here.

sheltwon3ParticipantYeah i am doing the depth charts and Lakers will have enough for both players and rookies don’t normally get big minutes or any on good teams but Luke Walton will probably not play much if he is hurt but he should still remain on the roster.
This thread is very confusing and makes no sense.
Lakers even have enough room for Brown if they decide to keep him.

PlatypusParticipantidea
Trade Walton for Sheeds contract
Walton becomes a celtic again and they get a bench small forward

Mr.Knick 32ParticipantI made a mistake. My bad. I read that LA only had 1 space on thier roster from people.

IndianaBasketballParticipantThat’s good you’re holding yourself accountable and owning up to your mistake. That’s more than I can say about a few users on here (ahem Cyclo).
