HitsterParticipantWith LBJ moving West, I was thinking who is realistically the best player remaining out East?
Giannis would be an obviously choice and the only other Eastern guys who made NBA All Teams this season were Embeast, DeRozan and Oladipo. A fit Kyrie Irving or an on form John Wall or Brad Beal would also be likely top 5 challengers. Plus Ben Simmons may be a challenger in the next couple of years.
Also how do the East view the stacked West?
Do they look to try and create super teams of their own or do they think, we have a good chance of making an NBA final with what we have got. The Western teams will have to get past each other and one of us will have to be in tye final to meet them.
Teams who have never made an NBA final or not for many years now have a realistic chance of getting there and becoming Conference Champions at least.
Boston with a fit team would be clear favourites but Toronto may feel they can certainly make a final now, Pacers, Philly etc could also see openings.

SubZeroParticipantGotta be Giannis. He’s the one who’s got the best shot at being the best in the league one day imo. Embiid will be up there if he ever gets in shape and learns to take care of the ball but Giannis has shown the work ethic and tenacity that it takes to be the best
I don’t think anyone in the East wants to mortgage their future just to get rocked by whoever comes out of the West. Boston and Philly to a lesser extent are the only ones even close to competing and even they weren’t willing to give up their key young guys for a guy like Kawhi who would’ve helped them right away.
Honestly the East playoffs is the only thing I’m looking forward to next season. Even though Boston’s most likely the team making it out, it’s not as foregone of a conclusion as it was with Lebron. Boston and Philly are at the top, but they’ll be heavily challenged by Indiana, Toronto, Washington, Milwaukee, and (maybe) Detroit, and a team like Charlotte could actually make it this year. It’s just too bad whoever wins the East will actually have to play the Finals

BothTeamsPlayedHardParticipantIt would not really do much to help ease travel woes, but an NBA North/South conference alignment would make the league more interesting.

dmo21ParticipantI kinda like what you’re throwing out there. The only 2 conference I would alter are your Pac 5 and Route 66 divisions. I would go west coast with Clippers, Lakers, Golden State, Portland and Sacramenoto and then mid-south with Dallas, Denver, Oklahoma City, Phoenix and Utah.
