Lotto StudParticipantHow far does your earliest significant memory to NCAAB/NBA date back to?
NCAAB –
NBA –————-
NCAAB – UCLA’s 1995 Championship (Tyus Edney)
NBA – Houston Rockets vs New York Knicks 1994 Finals (O.J. Simpson Chase)0 - Posted on: Sat, 07/28/2018 - 10:01am #1123178

BasterdInABasketParticipantI was 10 in 2000 and remember Wisconsin making it to the Final Four as an 8 seed. I loved the badgers back in the early 2000s, Kirk Penney, Mike Kelley, Mike Wilkinson, Devin Harris. I remember the 03 Marquette run a little better since I was older though, that roster was so sick.
NBA was definitely the excitement around the Bucks in 2001 playoffs. Big Dog, Allen, Cassell, Tim Thomas led by George Karl. Good time to start following basketball In Wisconsin.

SubZeroParticipantI remember random things from when I was really young like just watching certain players, but the first significant thing I remember watching and understanding how big it was was when I was 10, Patrick Sparks’s 3 against Michigan State in the Elite Eight
I watched a whole lot of NBA starting around when I was 7 in 2001, but same as with college, I remember watching guys like Kobe and T-Mac a lot and played way too much NBA Street but couldn’t tell you I remember anything major until Malice at the Palace. That was like sports 9/11 for me

The GoatParticipantNBA – Bulls Lakers finals
Didn’t watch NCAA as much but remember some particular teams that had a few interesting runs over a few games that stuck in my mind, e.g. :
Western Kentucky team with Darnell Mee
Florida State with Sam Cassell, Charlie Ward, Bob Sura and Doug Edwards
0- Posted on: Sat, 07/28/2018 - 4:00pm #1123196
whiteflashParticipantThat Florida State team was STACKED. What’s crazy is Edwards was considered the best of the bunch and wound up being the worst pro.

Dazzling Dunks and Basketball BloopersParticipantMy first memory of basketball was in 1991. I was 7 and my dad signed me up for rec league. The name of the team I was on was the lakers. I started watching their games whenever I could and have been a diehard fan ever since. It was Magic’s last season before he retired and was essentially the end of the “showtime” era. I remember watching them beat a heavily favored Portland team in the wcf but they couldn’t handle the bulls in the finals.
My first real NCAA memory was probably the 91 final four when duke beat a seemingly invincible UNLV team.

publius2481ParticipantNBA- Jordan and the Bulls winning their first title over Magic and the Lakers.
NCAA- The Fab Five. Most of my friends hated them at the time, but I thought they were so fun to watch. They are one of those teams I feel like you had to see at the time to understand their impact.

whiteflashParticipantOlajuwon blocking Starks 3 at the buzzer to force game 7 that they obviously went on to win. Native Houstonian and Olajuwon is my all time favorite player.
Jerry Stackhouse’s dunk against Duke in ’95. Was watching this game live (was in the 8th grade) and I literally jumped off my mom’s couch as this happened. There’s obviously been better game dunks since (and before) but watching this in real time was awesome.

RUDEBOY-ParticipantI’ll be 44 on the 2nd of next month. So my B Ball memories goes back a little farther than some of u . But my first collegiate experience was watching the Magic vs Bird Michigan State-Indiana State Finals. I remember that day so well Becuz earlier we Celebrated my Grandparents 50th Anniversary. The cops were called to my Grandparents house what seemed to me about 6 times. Magic’s Lakers vs Dr. J’s 76ers Finals was my earliest nba memory!!

Evan_MilbergParticipantI didn’t really start caring about basketball until ‘97, when I was nine years old and was just beginning to really appreciate how much skill it takes to be good at the game. My dad was watching Game 1 of the 97 Finals on tv, and I remember feeling transformed after watching Jordan hit a buzzer beater. I was hooked after that.
I didn’t get into college hoops until the early 2000s, around the time Juan Dixon was basically God in the eyes of all of my friends, so I was intrigued. That 2002 Terps team was stacked (Dixon, Steve Blake, Lonnie Baxter, Chris Wilcox, etc) and in a metro area desperate for a champion, the tournament run was special for DC natives (many of whom don’t live that far from College Park).

holefillers1ParticipantI was visiting a buddy in College Park for that Game. Crazy scene, cops had to come in on horse back to clear the streets.

cohenbc1ParticipantI just looked it up and it was Jan. 13, 1980.
This sounds too momentous to be my first basketball memory but I swear it’s true.
I was 8. One morning I turned on the TV and there was a basketball game. Celtics vs. Lakers. My dad was from New England and talked a lot about the Celtics so I decided to root for them. There was a funky looking white dude on the Celtics with what, even then, I recognized as a terrible haircut. He just seemed to run around the court shooting and passing with this carefree creativity that was like the way I played in our driveway. I liked him and immediately decided I would carry on the family tradition of Celtics fandom. The Celtics led by 11 at the half.
The second half was a different story. The Lakers operated with extreme precision. When the Celtics had the ball they usually took shots from far away. The Lakers ran and ran and ran. They got layups and dunks, many from a huge guy in goggles. The Celtics’ shots stopped falling. The Lakers kept running and pushing. They were kind of frightening to me. The Lakers won the game.

ksmith9ParticipantGoing off the top of my head. I was born in 1989 and didn’t get into sports for a while.
NBA: Space Jam…sounds weird but after seeing this I was everything Michael Jordan. I watched his games, bought apparrel, Dreamt of being a Bull.
NCAA: There wasn’t a major team that I watched during this era. The first team that strikes my fancy is the North Carolina Team featuring Sean mays, Raymond Felton, Marvin Williams(He’s from my hometown of Bremerton), McCants. I just remember them breaking records for players taken in the lottery at one draft.

jjj10manParticipantNBA: watching the 2006 NBA finals as a 7 year old and wondering? Why are they letting that one guy win?

ThenilonatorParticipantComing from Australia and being 40 years old, mine is a little different just due to the fact that there was no cable tv and access to every game there is now. I do remember 1 station here back in the day playing the game of the week on a Saturday morning and it was a replay of a game during that past week (I taped it every Saturday so I could watch scratchy replays until the next Saturday) and half hour before that game was “inside stuff” with Ahmad Rashad. I know I saw games before this one but The first real memory I have in terms of games is the eastern conference finals between the pacers (Tinsley, Davis brothers, Reggie etc) vs Knicks (starcs, Houston, sprewell, Camby). That was the series that got me hooked!
I do also recall those doco-style movies that came out early 90’s such as :
Michaels playground
Jordan above and beyond
The Reign man

Larry Johnson and that Stacked UNLV team.
Sadly I was on the losing end of both memories my Cavs lost and UNLV lost to Duke who I depsied back then.

NCAA- Duke v Butler

IndianaBasketballParticipant1995 Eastern Conference Semifinals Pacers vs Knicks Game 1
– This is a huge memory because I was over a friend of my moms house watching the game. Even when the game looked out of reach, I kept saying the Pacers would still win. This guy goes (while laughing), “I’ll give you $100 bucks if the Pacers come back and win this game little man! It’s over!” Next thing you know, Reggie Miller 8 points in 9 seconds happens lol. He tried to back out of it, but my momma wasn’t having that lol.
So Reggie Miller won me $100. I was balling for about 3-4 weeks on that $100 lol.

I.C.Y.U.NV.MEParticipantNCAA- JJ Redick going crazy against Texas. He had like 42 and hit like 9 trey’s. He inspired me to work on my shooting harder than I ever had.
NBA- I can’t remember the year specifically but that early 2000’s All Star game where everyone was ACTUALLY competing and clearly wanted to win. I remember AI and Marbury hitting some clutch baskets to bring the East back. Best all star game ever.

ChrispyParticipantJerome Lane sendin’ it in for NCAA. That was epic. Still is.
NBA wasn’t really on the map for me until the Knicks-Bulls Eastern finals series in 93. Still pisses me off that we couldn’t climb that hill. 2-0 up and the we lose 4 straight. Fuckin MJ…

cheetosjalapeno17ParticipantMy earliest memories of basketball were of my siblings talking about how good MJ was, but my earliest significant memory of the NBA was when the Shaq/Kobe Lakers beat the sixers in 01. That was when I started becoming an Laker fan.
We didn’t get much NCAA college basketball in the Philippines so my earliest memory of NCAA college basketball was when the Sean May/Raymond Felton/Rashad Mccants UNC team won the National Championship back in 2005.
0 - Posted on: Mon, 07/30/2018 - 4:24am #1123269

Snatalini247ParticipantNBA- Raptors v Sixers semi finals in 01. That crazy seven game series got me in to the sport for sure been hooked ever since. There were a lot of cool stars back in the early 2000s and I’d have to say we have one of the dopest in Philly. Thanks AI.
NCAA- Took a little longer but the 2007 season was awesome I got in to the draft through this site like the year before and got curious about top prospects in Oden and Durant with the new draft rules. And that season was awesome with all the beastly freshman and older teams like UCLA, Florida, and Georgetown. First year I ever beat my pops in our bracket challenge too. So thanks NBADraft.net got me in to a whole new section of basketball with out realizing it.
