What does this mean? Can he play center? I’ve barely seen him play.
They have Tristan, Bennett, Varejao, Zeller, and now they add in Clark, everyone here except Zeller is a natural PF
what do you see as the future for the Cavs, someone has to go.

Earl is a 3 or stretch 4 depending on a teams needs .. he shouldn’t be playing as a 5 at anytime

Either the Cavs have a plan, or they have a newfound fetish with SF/PF tweeners.
This is worrying to me as a Cavs fan, I thought they’d go for a 3 in the draft and resign Speighs, I was sort of okay with a Varejao-Thompson-Zeller-Speighs combo, it’s not that good, but the current situation puzzles me.

Very happy for Earl Clark – as a Lakers fan, really happy with what he did for us this year (similar to how Jordan Hill kind of burst out the year before). Not happy we’re losing him but from a personal standpoint he’s done good and have been looking forward to him breaking out.
He’ll provide versatility on D (he can guard 2-4 with his length and even 1s at times)..although they have Alonzo Gee, Kevin Jones and CJ Miles, I think Clark gives them the best of both worlds. He showed he can have some scoring outbursts and also do a bit of everything. They can either start him at the 3 or bring him off as the bench as 6th/7th man.
All told, I think this will pay off nicely for both sides.

Clark is best as a stretch 4 but is certainly capable of playing he three. Bennett is in the same boat position wise. I think Verejao has played center for most of his career, Zeller is a backup center, and even thompson can play center in a pinch, he has the wingspan and athleticism to do it for stretches. I dont think there is much of a rotation issue with this roster right now.

So, just thinking about the Cavs depth next season, would you guys think it’ll look a bit like this?
C: Varejao – Zeller – Back Up C
PF: Thompson – Bennett
SF: Clark – Karasev – Gee – Bennett
SG: Waiters – Miles – Gee
PG: Irving – Back Up PG
Thompson and Bennett perhaps being interchangeable, I don’t see Bennett playing significant minutes at SF with this pickup, although that may not be a bad thing.

  Totally agree there. Still no true sf there and a logjam at the 4. but hey better have some depth than nothing. Andy V will always miss a couple of games but I still don’t see Thompson as someone who can play the 5 consistantly and Zeller is kind of clumsy too.
  But someone has get all the millions the Cavs have to spend and if they are still hoping to sign LeBron next year or whoever Earls contract is very movable.
  They still need a 3. Karasev will surprise some people and Gee is one of the better rotation players in the league but they need a starting caliber sf.

  If you’re #1 you should get thrown into the fire, or starting lineup, regardless of who is on the team.

Lets be honest the lakers do make players better.
Smush parker, luke walton, jordan hill, jordan farmar, sasha, earl clark and the best one is shannon brown. He was on his way out the league before the lakers bobcats trade

  system made it easy for those players to succeed but if you have eyes you could see last year earl clark was playing well off his own pure talent. it had nothing to do with the lakers, he hustles he defends he rebounds he has a nice jumper. Mike dantoni didnt place him in a system to where it would be easy for him to do all those things, he did these things with his own intangables.

  Lakers do not make players better. Great players(Kobe, Nash,Pau,etc.) and coaches(Phil) can make players look better. Now that I think about it, Nash actually made D’Antoni’s career. So great players make other players/coaches look better.

Kind of surprised Detroit didn’t give him a look (or maybe they did and I didn’t check). He would’ve been a cheap stretch 3 or 4 to play alongside one of Drummond and Monroe, or both at the same time.

Just read on Hoopshype that his 2nd year is a team option and they kept their financial flexibility for the summer of 2014. Very well played Cavs even if he didn’t really fill a need. If he, Bennet and Karasev can handle the sf duties, they are a pretty deep team.
Really want to know if the Cavs are going to spend more this summer or if they are going to wait for next year. If they somehow pull of a Millsapp signing they are a top 5 team in the east.

I would have preferred Copeland because he a a stretch four that can stretch out the defense to the 3 point line instead of just very long 2’s. Clark is more athletic and anybody is a better defender than Copeland but he has proven he can hit three’s. Clark’s second year isn’t guaranteed so I think that’s why the Cavs did it. Not many guys would take a team option on a two year deal after there best season but hey, it works out for both sides.

He can play the 3 because he is versatile defensively but his best spot is the 4. I think you can say the same for Bennett (not as versatile defensively but more so on offense) so this is a bit of an odd signing to me but I like Earl as a player so I can’t really complain about a team trying to make a playoff push adding an athletic active body like Clark…especially on a 2 year 9 million dollar deal.
