alex23ParticipantAs a basketball fan in general, today is just a sad day. I’m sure everyone would have liked to see him finish his career with the Heat.I think Riley’s ego got in the way of something that should have been avoided.

doubledribblerParticipantRiley wanted Wade out. Lowball him, be difficult in negotiating. If Wade goes to another team, it becomes Wade’s choice. Riley can step up and say he tried all he could and wanted him to return. Miami moves on to the Whiteside era…

D7H7NParticipantMiami didn’t have the money. Wade got sick of cutting his paycheck for years and that initial offer of 10M/year was very disrespectful.

NBAjunkie81Participantplayed a full 82 game schedule & in 7 of those 13 seasons he played Less than 70 games
Wade was a Great NBA player – I luved him in his prime – but he has not been that Rim Attacking lethal Super Star for MANY years…..
Wade is Building a new Mansion in Miami & he AND his Wife wanted to stay in Miami….. The man is Rich — Richer than he could Ever spend in a Lifetime
& he is Uprooting his whole perfect Life b/c of a Pissing contest w/ Pat Riley…… The Heat were going Nowhere w/ Wade b4 Lebron & the Heat were going Nowhere w/ Wade After Lebron
Riley now has the $$$$ to go out & get Russell Westbrook — or some other Star to be the main man on a Very good Miami team……. Wade was Not leading Miami anywhere – he’s just Too old & broken down
The Bulls signing Wade & Rondo will be fun & it will be Drama & if Wade is Healthy (BIG IF) the Bull scan Maybe make the 2nd rounf buit No further……

Ahkasi ClayParticipantIf the Heats first phone call had been to Wade offering 20 mil a year for 2 years (which was there final offer)
I think he would have returned, (you should have called Whitesides 2nd)

benny15Participantno they shouldn’t have. they had to use their cap space to resign whiteside since they dint have his bird rights whereas with wade they did which allowed them to exceed the salary cap for him but not the other way around.
i do think the 10 mill initial offer was bad still though, could have been a larger 1 year offer and counter offered with more money in more years but less annually. but it is what it is and the heat can go forward in another direction while wade plays for his hometown

HitsterParticipantD-Wade may not be the player he was but when he sees Deng getting $18 million average over the next 4 years and fellow recent team mate Joe Johnson got a very nice deal with Utah then under new salary scale D-Wade could rightly expect $20 million a year.
I expect he regrets opting out in 2014 too as it cost him over $10 million too.

Dazzling Dunks and Basketball BloopersParticipantWade has always wanted to play in Chicago. He considered going there in 2010 before the Decision happened. This opened up an opportunity for it to happen.
I think he still would have stayed in Miami if they hadn’t low balled him so much from the start. This is a guy who has given his heart and soul to the franchise, sacrificed money to better the team, and won them championships. He was still performing at an all-star level last season and stepped his game up even more in the playoffs. He deserved to be taken care of with a legitimate offer as the first order of business. I really can’t blame him for leaving.
This won’t vault Chicago into contender status or anything but at least puts them in contention to make the playoffs and if nothing else will create intrigue and boost ticket sales.

ZouldiersParticipantAs a Heat fan and a Dwyane Wade fan, I’m sad that he could not retire as a Heat but I understand that he wanted the money. Very disrespectful on Pat’s part for not paying him but I also understand why he wouldn’t.
For the Heat, it’s all about the future and it starts by developing guys like Winslow, Richardson and Whiteside and hope they become stars and focus on next year’s loaded draft class and hope for a top 3 pick. For Wade, I love that he went to the Bulls because if there’s a team I would want him to go besides Miami it would be Chicago because it’s his home and he finally got paid. Bulls fans, congrats on getting Wade and good luck to you guys and I hope to see you in the playoffs. Don’t worry about fit, Wade will find a way to fit alongside Jimmy Buckets and Rajon Rondo like he did with Lebron.
Wade was loyal to Miami and he made me a Heat fan and I’ll always be a Heat fan but I’m also going to be loyal to my favorite player of all-time in Dwyane Wade as well.

kobyzParticipantI don’t get wade at all also from the money standpoint, so he would have giving up some money next two years to stay in Miami so the heat would have more room in cap space for next year but heat would for sure gonna reward him later, even come the time he would want to retire thay would have offering some big money to just get the money without playing…

BothTeamsPlayedHardParticipantIt could work out for the Bulls, but their moves this summer seem to be more about a GM trying to save his job or at least buy more time. I think Orlando and probably Houston fall into the same group. Houston went super D’Antoni-ey, and they will probably be much better than an 8-seed this year as a result. Ryan Anderson seems perfect for Houston if they want to shoot and play no defense. I look forward to their 154-139 scoreline against Golden State on opening night. Eric Gordon’s career dipped considerably, and $53 million is a lot of investment in a guy who has not played 65 games in a season since 2009, but it seems like a stylistic fit. Coming off last year, it might buy Morey more time. That said, he will still have to keep dropping fake rumors to the media in order to guarantee good press. Orlando brought in Hennigan to rebuild the team, and this looks like his last stand. It is entirely possible a new GM takes over the Magic a year from now and cries when he sees that Evan Fournier, Bismack Biyombo, and DJ Augustin make up 40 percent of a $100 million cap, which doesn’t count the under contract Vucevic, Gordon, or Payton, when he stares down a free agent Ibaka. This is Gar Foreman making a play to keep his job. He wanted to transition the Bulls to an up-tempo free-flowing team. In as much as the team was unlucky with injuries, it was a stylistic nightmare for their roster. Denzel Valentine made sense as a pick to transition the roster to that style. All of that has to be out the window with these moves. Now, this can only work if they try to lock down like last year’s Heat or Spurs. They have to defend that well. They have players who have been on teams that have done so in the past with Rondo, Wade, Butler, and Gibson. Even the 2014 Blazers were pretty good defensively, so I suppose the lesser Lopez will do well enough to hold off calls for the one and only Cristiano to start. The problem is that defense is about prioritization, and they lost that last year, in part because of the wishes of the front office. Can they get it back without changing their coach? Even if it works, where will they be relative to Cleveland, Indiana, and Boston?
For the Heat, with Chris Bosh’s health still in question, they are now a team built around Hassan Whiteside. His immaturity on the court and off is going to be tested now that there is no more contractual carrot to be dangled in front of him. They have lost their identity with Wade leaving. There was a lot of grind to the Heat these past couple seasons, and their defensive excellence was not about Whiteside. I’m not sure they can sustain it when some of the true pros of the game like Wade and Deng are allowed to leave. This probably means they are in rebuild mode. I cannot imagine Pat Riley will panic and match the Tyler Johnson contract, but it now doesn’t seem far-fetched that they look at this year as a bridge to a summer 2017 rebuild with a top 7 pick (anything beyond it goes to the Suns) and cap room. Heck, I wouldn’t think it would be shocking if Whitside is the name constantly bandied about in trade rumors come January.
