In case some of you didn’t know, the cavs acquired the draft rights to Dwight Powell by just taking Brendan Haywood’s contract from the Hornets. I think this is a steal for my cavs, Powell is reminiscent of Justin Harper, a second round pick that was traded by Cleveland to Orlando for two future second round picks in the 2011 draft. The last pick of that trade was used on Joe Harris this year.

I think Powell is a steal in the second round and could be a starter some day. He’s 6’11”, very good athlete and will mostly be a stretch four in the NBA.

    Thoughts?

I like him, he and Roy Dev Marble caught my eye as 2nd rounders that were a bit off the map that could be picked up ( they both did) . I think he’ll carve out a career as a stretch 4.

Wow! Canadianvasion for real. I can see this guy having a very solid career. Had stretches (not consitently at all) where he would remind me of a bigger chandler parsons.

Well that gives them four Canadians on one team, three of them playing the same position. First the Spurs have the connection with France and now the Cavs have the connection with Canada.

I know, it’s kind of crazy. At this point, I think Tristans future with this team is uncertain.

but he really fit as a 3rd big/1st of the bench in Blatt’s system.

He is the only Big on the team that doesn’t get pushed around and he still growing at only 22, he is a legit 6-10.

They forced the ball to him a little too much last year(mainly because Hawes played at 3pt line), especially since he had just switched shooting hands, but he still put up averages of a double-double.

I think the bigger part of this deal is the Brendan Haywood contract Cleveland is absorbing. He’s only going to be making $2.2million next season, followed by a $10.5 million team option for the following year which is fully unguaranteed. So this contract becomes a huge trade asset following next year in which Cleveland could potentially land a higher caliber player for a team wanting to trade off for a huge salary dump in Haywood’s contract.

If Powell starts to believe in himself and realizes he doesn’t have to lay in the weeds all the time he can be damn good.

My man, very talented and a good athlete, he will have to really step up his D though. My brother played from blatt in Europe and as soon as he saw the trade he said " he better play D or Blatt will not play him at all"
