Mr. ChicagoParticipantJust read the article where Dwight supposedly made an in game phone call to DeVos to tell him, "He will no longer play for Van Gundy."
This hit the point of ridiculous a long time ago, but now Dwight just looks awful. I used to think I wanted him to be a Bull, but now I am no longer so sure. He is like a child, where he wants to dictate every action of the "team" and organization. However, i don’t feel he even understands what the word team means. He quit on his teammates, alienated his coach, and kept the organization hostage for over 6 months with his demands. Dwight Howard really needs a reality check that he is a basketball player first and foremost. Just my two cents.
I hope he figures this out, because when he plays he is still the most talented center in the game, and I think if he put have as much time in shooting free throws as he does running the oganization. He could be one of the most dominate ever.

Maniac MaciejParticipantDwight must have hired LeBron’s PR firm.
I really thought the "new superstars" of 2003-2004 were a different breed than the previous generation of Iverson, Vinsanity, Marbury and Kobe. Those guys always seemed like they needed to be "the man" and if they weren’t the first option, then they didn’t care quite as much about winning. Kobe’s won in spite of this, but it’s always been his biggest flaw.
With guys like LeBron, Dwight and Dwyane, now it seems like they need to have every little thing exactly how they want it, or we start to hear the whining.
I’m hoping that we don’t see this kind of thing start to shake out for my newest hope: the Durant/Rose generation.

The QParticipantYou might as well deal him to the Clippers and get Griffin/Jordan/Bledsoe as the main pieces of a package to restart the rebuild around.
Then you can trade Nelson for more younger players as he’s also getting up there in age.

UNCbasketballbumParticipantDwight Howard has some serious serious issues. I don’t know who is giving him his advice in his camp, but whoever it is, he needs to stop listening to them immediately. He has gone from a lovable kid during his first couple years in the NBA, to a flip-flopping egotistical, power-hungry baby. I would not want this guy on my team, even though he’s a once in a generation talent.

The QParticipantThe fans acting like babies about the LeBron thing didnt’ help.
It’s clear Howard doesnt’ want to be in Orlando, but also doesn’t want to be like LeBron.
No one shoudl’ve criticized either for wanting to leave their teams. Both frankly aren’t very good without them.

ThepessimestParticipantLebron was ripped because of "HOW" he acted when he left not that he left. The Decision show, guaranteeing not 1, not 2, not 3, not 4, not 5 and on and on amount of championships. Chris Bosh, Wade and himself throwing a party before they played a game.
It was the arrogance that he displayed that was the root of the hate. Had Lebron just quiety said he’s going to Miami then he’d still be hated but the amount of hate wouldn’t have been as great.
But when you leave and do it in the way that he did it then thats what happens. People are turned off by arrogance like that.
It was his right to leave but the way that he left hurt him.

IndianaBasketballParticipantDwight’s situation isn’t really like LeBron’s.
Despite the negativity of LeBron’s decision, he played out his entire contract in Cleveland and left as an *unrestricted* free-agent, meaning he was free to do whatever he wanted. Dwight isn’t unrestricted.
"He has gone from a lovable kid during his first couple years in the NBA, to a flip-flopping egotistical, power-hungry baby."
I think that pretty much sums it up.
I will say this though… The NBA is more about the superstar, not the coach. This isn’t college. It’s time for SVG to go.

The QParticipantIt would’ve been the same had he not signed that opt-out waiver though.
I think he’s legitimately torn at this point and now he’s looking for either reasons to stay or leave Orlando. Or maybe he’s just doing this so Orlando will trade him so he wont’ be like LeBron. I really don’t know.

sheltwon3ParticipantI would love to get some credibily on this because it makes very little sense.

So raspyParticipantLeBron’s never done anything like this. I still feel the media blew up the decision more than he did, ESPN gave it an hour special, LeBron doesn’t schedule their programming. Hate him if you’d like, but he always played hard for Cleveland, and never had an issue like this with his coaching staff.

TruettParticipantLebron’s situation was always going to be bad because of how much he meant to the city… he made it worse by the decision. but through all of it you knew that lebron knew what he wanted and you understood why he wanted it. You thought he was callous, selfish, and insensitive, but you understood why he did what he did.
With Dwight its totally different, you have no idea what he wants! Personally, I think that he found out that D will wanted to go to Dallas and Dwight wanted to go to NJ instead (but was not going to go there if D Will wasn’t there) so he was left with the option of going to dallas where he would be the 3rd/4th option on offense (williams, terry, nowitzski, then howard… its possible it could have gone that way) instead of being the center of attention like he thought he would be coming to Brooklyn.
If you believe that, then you believe that feeling important is more important to dwight than winning basketball games. That makes sense when you see how rebuffed he was my Kobe’s remakrs. That also explains all this BS that is going on with the front office right now, its just a petulant child having a temper tantrum.
If I am the Owner of the Magic, I am probably firing my GM after the season regardless of what i think, and then I am bringing in Stan, asking him if he still wants to work (Van Gundy’s are an institution in the NBA if you treat them bad you are going to piss of a lot of people as an organization). If he is ok leaving I let him walk.. Then I try to trade Howard because you cannot let him control your organization. The moment he starts holding himself out of games you know it is irreparible.

Wouldn’t that be an argument for what the likes of LBJ and Melo did not do? They chose to go to teams with established superstars where they no longer would be the sole "man" on the squad.

So raspyParticipantLeBron is the reason Mike Brown has a career as an NBA coach, and the sole reason Cleveland won anything since 03. Ur arguing that he didn’t play hard in the playoffs? Think he just didn’t care about winnin that one? And as far as the coaching issues, it was never anything remotely close to whats happened in Orlando.
