Dwight Howard is going to the Hawks for 3 years for 70 mil. I guess that means horford is gone.

As a hawks fan, this is so disappointing. Dwight just isn’t the player he was, and I would’ve loved for us to target someone younger. Maybe I’m wrong though an Dwight can get back to being a relevant player. I doubt it though.

I do believe he’s better than he appeared in Houston, but I certainly didn’t want him for us.

But would Horford rather have the Hawks? You have to imagine someone’s going to offer Horford more than what Howard’s getting. New York’s going after Noah, so my guess is Horford will land in Boston, which is actually a great fit for him.

I agree and also think the Hawks feel the same but this has to mean Al is gone or they have the most expensive front court in the league with Dwight, Millsap and Horford who will also demand the max.

Sad when even Hawks fans don’t want the local ‘kid’ and 3 time defensive player of year back in town…

Personally I think Howard should bounce back a bit of healthy but I really don’t see him to be a leader and think he is nowhere as good as he think he is.

Without a doubt. I really thought Coach Bud was great, but after this move now it makes me question our entire management. Even if we knew Horford was leaving, I didn’t want Dwight. I’d take Biyombo over Dwight any day at this point. And he’d be significantly cheaper and less of a lockeroom distraction. It would also start the process of a rebuild without spending quite as much money.

Now we’re somewhere in between rebuild and irrelevancy. there’s no shot at Horford. And I doubt we get anyone else relevant. Wow.

Dwights career has been all over the place since Orlando. From Dwightmare, Laker land hype, thinking him and Harden would be the next star duo, now back home. Who knows maybe this time it works out.

Now the celtics need both Horford and Biyombo, come on Danny.

The defensive, elite rebounder-shot blocker Biyombo, younger….and the 30 YO PF-C Horford, passing bigmen, a bit of scoring and now stretch 5 with 3 pts range.

Sounds like a spoiled fanbase. Maybe Biyombo doesn’t want to play for Atlanta and maybe Horford doesn’t want to play for Atlanta. Not many options left and at that point if Howard does want to play there you sign him plain and simple. He is still a dominant presence when healthy. As far as his character I think it’s overblown by the media. He’s played with some bigtime egos with Kobe and Harden over the past few years. A nice organization now led by Paul Millsap seems to be a good fit. It’s better than striking out then trading Millsap and rebuilding which is still an option if Howard doesn’t work.

Atlanta has had some dark days before thier most recent success with Josh Smith, Joe Johnson, AL Horford, Jeff Teague, Paul Millsap, Larry Drew and Mike Buldenhozer. This is a big free agent splash and something to keep them relevant.

Can’t blame them for trying and I’m sure for Atlanta fans when you get a chance to watch Howard play you will appreciate him much more. He is a very physical presence that plays good defence that will really be enhanced with good coaching. If he stays healthy it’s an amazing recovery from losing Horford.

If you actually watched him play last year you would know he wasn’t getting touches which was frustrating to watch. They really didn’t pass him the ball even when he had great post position. He had his best FG and FT percentages of his career. He averaged 13-rpg per 36 minutes which he only did 6 times in his career. He was still a great shot blocker even know he wasn’t inspired which by the way is the coaches job and with all this injury/healthy Howard talk he played 71 games at 32-mpg! He has only played less than 71 games in a season 2 times and both times he didn’t even miss more than half the season!

Media really has him portrayed as some sort of terrible player but if you guys like Biyombo I’ll tell you straight up I would much rather Howard be on my team and it isn’t even close!

What is the fuss about? For the Center position I’d take Howard anyday over Horford. If you want a floor stretcher, of course you go with Horford. Hawks have that in Milsap. They needed a big man that can catch and finish around the goal, upgrade them on defense and dominate the glass. I think ATL just got that in Dwight. I think he will surprise a lot of people in this new situation away from a ball dominant guy like James Harden. Milsap is still the best player on the team, but I think Dwight will be a strong 2nd.

I know Horford is loved in ATL, but he’s turned into a jump shooting Center. He only avg 7 rebs to go alonng with his 15 pts from jump shots. Horford is good, but I feel the same way about Brook Lopez and Marc Gasol. It’s ok to shoot jumpers playing Center, but I need you to get in there and atleast get me 10 rebounds per game. 7 just isn’t enough for my biggest player on the floor.

I really hope Dwight shuts everyone up. I’ve hated him ever since he got Stan Van ran out, but he’s so hated now I want to see him do well again. People that say they’d rather have Biyombo than Howard: I’m glad you’re not running my team. Dwight played in probably one of the 5 worst situations for him in the league last year and still put up pretty good numbers. If they actually remember he’s on the court and include him in the offense, he’ll play a lot better

I think it’s a good move as long as Dwight is healthy and engaged. They were smart not to offer a full four year deal given how his career has gone since he left Orlando. Horford is a versatile big with a nice skill set but he just can’t bring them what a fully healthy and engaged Dwight can on the boards and protecting the rim, and that’s something they were missing the last few years.

Atlanta is a team with a strong culture and coaching staff and very few egos. They should find a way to integrate dwight into their system. He can’t go in with the idea that he will their number one option on offense and expect them to just dump the ball into the post every time. That runs counterintuitive to how they play. Hopefully dwight has learned enough over the past few years to realize that he just needs to focus on what he does best to help the team win and not be concerned with being the alpha dog or main guy like he was in Orlando. If he goes in their with that attitude, this will not work at all.

Great signing. Atlanta without him is mediocre. Good value bet for me.

I give this signing an A-

D12 for 3 years at $70 million isn’t a cap killer for the Hawks and having resigned Blazemore it’s clear Horford is moving on. D12 and Millsap form a nice frontcourt, D12 is on his home team so deal looks good for me.

I’d assume Horford may well consider Boston given their cap space also could Pacers be in the hunt for him, he’d relink up with Teague have Paul George as the main man to ride shot gun to and with Ellis,Thad Young and co you have a nice core there.
