 I’ve been reading things about how guys on the Hornets are happy that Dwight is no longer on the team and that they got tired of his antics.  I don’t know how much of this is true but it seems par for the course ever since Dwight left the Magic.  Stints with the Lakers who were supposed to have a super team with a way past prime Steve Nash and Kobe never materialized and debacles with the Rockets, Hawks and Hornets folllowed.  Was Dwight really that much of an immature brat or were stories of his antics overblown?  Now Dwight has always been one of my least favorite NBA players ever.  His elite athleticism made him a dominant defensive player, but his offensive skills, never ever devoloped.  His care free attitude rubbed the ultra-competitive Kobe Bryant the wrong way.  At 32, where does he go from here?  He is no longer in his 20’s and injuries have sapped him of his elite athleticism.  With his baggage, what team takes a chance on this guy?

 Possibly contenders like Boston and Golden State. Personally, I wouldn’t risk it. He’s has shown in the last 4 years that he’s a locker room cancer and his game doesn’t fit in today’s NBA. There’s a reason why he is passed around like a ho.

If the nets buy him out as expected, would he be willing to swallow his pride and take a minimum deal and very reduced role to go to Golden State for the opportunity to win a title? In theory, it would make a ton of sense. He would basically be a much better version of what javale magee gave them the past 2 seasons, with little to no responsibility on offense besides setting screens and rolling for wide open dunks and offering interior defense and rim protection. However, for this to happen he would clearly have to accept that he is no longer an elite player and understand going in what his role would be and be ok with it.

 China…He complained about touches in Atlanta, in CHA teammates complained that he broke plays to do his own thing. That’s why we saw him doing crossovers, etc. It’ll be difficult for him to go to a contender with him demanding touches, messes up the flow of the new NBA. Why would the Warriors or Celtics want that cancer in the looker room. He doesn’t want to win he wants to score.In China he can do what he wants…

It’s hard to imagine a team wanting him as their starting C.

If you want to tank next year, giving Dwight a one-year deal and all the touches he wants on offense would be a good way to low-key make sure you lose a lot of games while at least having an interesting storyline for the season (look, Superman is averaging 20 and 15 again!)

But only two teams seem like they will enter the year in tank mode: Atlanta, which has already said good riddance to Howard; and Chicago, whose future is now all about developing the two young bigs, Markkanen and Carter.

Maybe the Wizards are a possibility after the Gortat trade? But I hear rumors Cousins is headed there.

The more you think about it, overseas does seem like a likely destination.

 If reports of him being an insecure, entitled brat come from literally everywhere he’s played, then no they’re not overblown. They’re right on the money.  I’ll use Iverson as an example; AI is one of the biggest jackasses the league has ever seen, but he was also an elite scorer who put butts in seats so teams put up with it. But, AS SOON as he lost half a step he bounced around and was out of the league within a year. As soon as Howard can’t contribute, he’s gone.

 It’s funny because in another thread, I said he has been on six teams in eight years, and that we would be talking about him being on yet another team next year.

He didn’t even make it the week before the Nets announced they didn’t want any part of it. …

The NBA has really changed over the past 10 years in a lot of ways, not only the style of play on the court, but off the court as well. There are a lot of really good guys in the NBA right now, and not a lot of jerks or guys getting into trouble off the court or who are miserable to be around.

I know fans have kind of become numb to the numbers that make up NBA players salaries, but the reality is that $20+ million is a lot of money for any corporation to commit to paying anyone. Teams aren’t really falling over themselves to give it to a guy nobody wants to be around. 

I do think Howard will continue to bounce around the league for another couple years, but his career is essentially over.

 He would NEVER accept that kind of role. His whole career he should’ve focused on being a better DeAndre Jordan, but instead he’s tried (quite unsuccessfully) to prove he’s Patrick Ewing. Dude’s on his way out sooner or later.

Maybe not. But he should seriously consider it. It could be a way to sort of salvage and extend his career. It’s not like he’s going to have a ton of options if he insists on being an offensive focal point.

 Don’t get me wrong, I completely agree that’s what he SHOULD do, I’m saying he WON’T. It’s not that he’s incapable, it’s that he’s unwilling.

 Dwight Howard is still physically imposing. IMO he ends up on team that perceives they are on the cusp of contention; ala Karl Malone. An off the bench enforcer! Teams I would explore: Nuggets, Trailblazers, Spurs, Thunder, Pelicans, and Wizards.

The Lakers I doubt would take him back.

The Spurs have helped Pau prolong his career and playing alongside LMA would appeal to D12, so that could be a fit.
