NEW YORK — St. John’s freshman Dwayne Polee plans to transfer from the school because of a family health issue, the school announced on Sunday.

"I really enjoyed my experience at St. John’s and I’m going to miss the staff and New York," Polee said in a statement released by the school. "Right now I feel it is best to be close to my family and help us get through a health issue."

"Dwayne is an outstanding individual with a bright future," said coach Steve Lavin. "He has been a valued member of our basketball family. He leaves St. John’s University in good academic standing and we wish him well."

Polee appeared in all 33 games for St. John’s this past season, starting in 27 of them. He averaged 4.4 points and 2.5 rebounds in 14.9 minutes per game.

He is from Los Angeles, CA so I think he will be looking to go somewhere in California to be closer to his family.

He will be a nice addition where ever he goes. But more than likely he will end up on the west coast.

Damn. Really discouraging, considering it would’ve been his second year in the program and he would’ve been one of only 2 guys returning with any experience. This hurts us short term, but long term we should be ok with the recruits we have coming in next season, and they way we should be able to recruit in the following years.

Just so everyone knows, because he is transfering because of a family emergency and not because he just wanted to, he won’t have to sit out a year.

He was originally commited to USC.  I live across the street from his high school and watched him play a good amount. I’m excited for him to come back out west.

Yeah, like Elliot Williams did because he wanted out of Duke so he could show his offensive game off and head to the NBA without having to sit out a year.  Maybe Polee didnt want to give up many minutes to the incoming frosh…I mean Pointer, Sampson, and Harkless are all gonna get some serious run.  Polee wouldve likely been in a dogfight for minutes.

Can you say USC! He seems to be a SC type of prospect.
