jwostrumParticipantI don’t know what everyones problem is with Dwayne Bacon. The whole thing about him being a 21 year old rookie is stupid. He is obviously the most talented SG in college to project to the NBA. He has elite athletic ability and quickness, he has a better handle than most SG coming into college, and he wants to get better defensivly. Also a very underated aspect of his mindset more than his game is his killer instinct. he aint timid like a lot of young players. I love this guy and would take him on the sixers in a heartbeat. Philly needs a jolt of scoring other than okafor.

IlladelphParticipant"he aint timid like a lot of young players." That’s because he ain’t a young player. He’s a 20 year-old freshman. Your opinion that he is the "most talented SG in college to project to the NBA" is just that, your opinion. He is a very good college SG, but I think most have him pegged as a late first or second rounder. He is a big, athletic guard, but he shoots 26% from the college 3. His assist/turnover ratio is 0.6. An NBA guard has to be able to shoot better than that, and take care of the ball. Also, he is averaging 1.1 steals per game. Not bad, but does not scream NBA caliber defensive stopper either. These stats wouldn’t be as important if he played on a Kentucky, or Duke where his usage would be a lot lower, and he would play a lot less minutes. But at FSU his usage percentage is 28.6% which is the 5th highest in the ACC. Also FSU’s strength of schedule is very weak. All of this does not make him a bad player at all, it’s just that there are other college SGs that project better than he does.
Jamal Murray, Allonzo Trier, Buddy Hield, Furkan Korkmaz, and even Grayson Allen are Bacon’s competition. And even though Bacon is 6’7", I would rather have Caris LeVert who is also 6’7" and shoots 44% from 3, and has a PER of 29.1. He has the 3rd most win shares in the NCAA, has an assit/turnover ratio of 2.9. Plus UM strength of schedule is pretty strong.
And what about Allonzo Trier, Buddy Hield, Furkan Korkmaz, and even Grayson Allen? These guys are all competition for Bacon.

PrecociousNeophyteParticipant"but he shoots 26% from the college 3". You must be one of those people that doesn’t watch games and just looks at number and stats. If you have ever seen him play, which I am pretty sure you haven’t, you would know that he is a good three point shooter that just has not got it going yet. Don’t come on here and throw a bunch of numbers at me if you have never seen the dude play.

IlladelphParticipantActually I have seen Bacon play a few times. I will probably see him play live this season. Everything I said is still fact. It’s not opinion. He still shoots 26% from three, turns the ball over a lot, is not tremendously efficient, and compared to the other guards who will be in the draft, he does not compare favorably. I still think he has a shot to be drafted in the first round, but I sus[ect he will be a second rounder. Thanks for your thoughtful response though.

PrecociousNeophyteParticipantI have seen him play live multiple times and on TV a lot more. I don’t care if all those numbers you said are fact or not. I am saying that his 3 point % is misleading because I know how good a shooter he is and anyone who has watched him play live would know that. Also, who cares that he’s is only averaging 1.1 steals. That has little to do with how good of a defensive player he is.

IlladelphParticipantPreciousneophyte:
I get that you are in love with Dwayne Bacon. He is a good college player, and at this point seems to have legitimate pro potential. But to keep insisting that he is a great 3 point shooter just becuase you have seen him live several times, makes no sense. The numbers don’t lie.
Also, steals per game/ steal %, is the single most important predictor of defensive prowess at the NBA level.

PrecociousNeophyteParticipantAnd you are insisting that he can’t shoot and can’t play defense because he shoots 26% from 3 and averaging 1.1 steals. Sooner or later his shots are going to start to fall because I know what he is capable of doing.
Have you ever heard of staying close and in front of your man. Seeing the ball and seeing your man at the same time. Contesting shots w/o biting for fakes. That to me is good defense. A guy can gamble a lot on defense and rack up a lot of steals, but that does not make him a good defensive player. You keep looking at your little numbers and i’ll continue to actually watch these guys play.

jwostrumParticipantI think the reason this man hates Dwayne bacon so much is because his doc told him he can’t eat bacon anymore, and just the word makes him scream ahhhh, I want some bacon.

ProximoParticipantDwayne Bacon is a damn good prospect, always liked his game since I first saw him back when he was rated 4-stars and around 50th in the class. Big shot taker and maker, he’s got ice running thru his veins, he’s a hell of a competitor. Obviously built like an NBA wing player and his handle is pretty sharp. When his 3pt shot is on he’s capable of putting up points quick..
If he’s really 6’7" I don’t know how he’d fall past the the mid 20’s in this upcoming draft..

ItsVictorOladipoParticipantSorry to derail this thread but I haven’t seen many FSU games this year…how does Malik Beasley measure up to Bacon as a prospect? Obviously he doesn’t have his size but he’s also a true freshman, is a year younger and is putting up comparable if not slight better numbers across the board; 17.3 PPG, 5.6 RPG, 1.3 SPG, 51 FG%, 43 3PT % and 83 FT%.

Hype MachineThis thread has way less Bacon jokes than I was hoping.
For real tho…I see heaps of potential as an NBA backup. Take a risk on upside in the second round…stick him in the D-League. See if you can uncover a rough diamond.

Taylor Gang MikeParticipantPeople forget Mike Jordan came into the league at 21.. And he turned out to be the best player ever, so it does not matter what age you are, matters what you do on the court. Dwayne looks up to Jordan and compares himself to Jordan. Lets see, but I think he has to be top 5, he is a beast.. people just hate for some reason.
