IlladelphParticipantIn another thread about one-and-dones, someone posted that they thought that Dwayne Bacon would be a one-and-done.
I don’t know a lot about the kid so I did some googling. Turns out the kid is 20 years old. Not to take anything away from him as a dominant high school basketball star, but someone who is born in August of 1995 should have been in the high school class of 2013. That means he has been dominating guys in high school that are 2 and 3 years behind him in development. I wonder how he would have fared had he been pitted against his own year’s competition. In high school, 2 years of development is huge. Makes his accomplishments at Oak Hill this year seem less impressive. I’m not sure he has a choice in the one-and-done world. If he doesn’t come out next summer, and stays in college for say 2-3 years, he could be 22-23 years old by the time he enters the draft.
Any opinions?

adumParticipantI want to wait to see how he plays at FSU to make an opinion on his potential.
Shabazz recently had age issues as well. He hasn’t panned out as a star but he’s a become a serviceable pro for the wolves.
Age is important when evaluating prospects but I think people sometimes weigh it heavier then talent.

SkalAndJamalParticipantHe’s a grown man, but he really got a knack for scoring. Reminds me a lot of JR Smith, hopefully he can keep his head on straight

IlladelphParticipantYeah that’s what I think too. I’ve just seen some youtube highlights but if he can play well in college, he can probably be in the conversation for one-and-done come spring time next year. Will be interesting to see how he does this season.

wonzi_bellsParticipantI listed Bacon is the one-and-done grouping on that tread and I put him there more on an educated guess rather than his actual play. I actually think his age gives him more incentive to enter the draft rather than not just because it’ll probably be presented a problem if he further delays his entry.
I’ve really only watched him in one competitive game, which was the Oak Hill-Monteverde HS Championship Title game. He wasn’t at the Nike Hoop Summit and I don’t consider the McDonald’s All-American Game or Jordan Brand Classic to be true competitive games. Also, he probably was the highest ranked player in the 2015 class to not play in any major AAU circuit since his team, Showtyme Ballers, weren’t affliated with the Nike EYBL, Adidas Uprising or UAA Association.
What I did see from him was a guy who was capable of range with solid handling ability, as well as solid size and athleticism. Nothing too special but good enough to be drafted and hopefully become a rotation piece. He was jacking up a lot of shots in the championship game and needs to attack more and I hear that the case with most of his games, so shot selection is something to keen in on.
Florida State will be an interesting team in the next couple of years with all the recruits Leonard Hamilton is bringing in. I wonder how he’ll allocate the minutes and what positions some of these recruits will be playing.

Taylor Gang MikeParticipantBacon and XRM will be really good scorers next season in the backcourt. Will be interesting to see how they defend and set up offense. Dwayne will be one and done, he just has to show consistency at the college level.. He should be a top 10 pick. Hes gonna be a really good 2 guard at the NBA level, he has really good size and skill.. Its all about consistency and if he can knock down shots at his shot attempt rate..
