For years the NBA has struggled on wht to do about the dunk contest durring the all-star weekend. I have an idea that I think would bring a lot of excitment. NBA players VS. non NBA guys. Like And 1 guys, globetrotters, guys like James White (just cut by denver) just various high flyers from around the country. Is this a terrible idea?

I like inviting whoever to participate from around the globe. I’ve seen some video’s of dude’s doing crazy stuff. Plus these non nba’ers can really use the 25k and the exposure, so you know they will bring it. I’ve never been a big fan of the dunk contest and i seriously doubt people will be too upset if they don’t get to see Nate vs Dwight rd 3. Some fresh unknown blood would be a very good idea.

I think the contest should be kept to those that are in the league, but you need to have the best dunkers in there. Nate Robinson jumping off of some dudes back and Howard dunking on an 11′ rim claiming it’s 12′ is gay. Also, letting the fans f@#ck up and put Fernandez in there over Joe Alexander who had vids of HITTING HIS HEAD AGAINST THE RIM is just silly. JR Smith is easily one of the best dunkers in the league, but the NBA clearly wanted the hype of Nate vs Howard, playing on the Krypto-Nate thing and all that silly sh!t so he didn’t get a chance to show his stuff. Also, if LeBron does enter this year that’ll be great for the league but a terrible contest ’cause the guy is not a contest dunker. Watch the McD’s contest for proof. He got killed by both Shannon Brown and JR Giddens but won ’cause he’s a name. If we’re only puting 4 people in there I’d like Gerald Green, Joe Alexander, James White [sure he’ll get called up] and a good “smaller” dunker, like Bayless, Rose or Lou Williams. Actually, Williams might sneak out with the thing. He was injured for the McD’s dunk contest but youtube some of his other stuff. SERIOUS bounce. I wouldn’t put Westbrook ’cause he’s a lot like James in that he gets a lot of game dunks but he’s not suited for contests.

I would like it if only allstars could play that way you get a exciting player that everyone has heard of on every dunk.

The contest has been going downhill and the fan voting for participates thing is NOT a good idea AT ALL. They need to keep the NBA Slam Dunk Contest just for NBA players. But, if they can do it, there should have a world-wide Slam Dunk Contest to showcast the best dunkers of the world, not just the NBA.

I still have it on tape. Killed might be a bit severe, but James definitely did not win that contest. Von Wafer actually put down some better dunks, and Shannon Brown did a 360 from a step inside the foul line. Giddens had to bow out on his last attempt due to injury, but he still did better dunks. All the announcers could barely contain themselves from sucking James’ dick at every oppertunity. Good to see some things never change.

why the commentators were on his sack. If you watch how high James got up(while in high school), his head is at the rim. Those are some crazy hops. The only thing the commentators are saying is that he got up really high.

Brother, they were saying a lot more than “he jumps high”. Don’t remember any direct quotes but it was bordering on the absurd. I was afraid the announcers were gonna break into a wrestling match to see who could give James an RJ first.

saying some absurd stuff, but all I heard is that he jumps really high. Here are the links that I used:

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JxN-ntfX47k

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v1yOsiWUuWI

Obviously, they were saying stuff about him but it was cut off from the video. But, the majority of the time, they just said he jumped really high. But as far as him winning…

I think that this is an unbeliveable idea surprised no one has thought of this before it would really be big for the non NBA players because the winnings would actually mean something to the players competing but I dont think it would happen thats just not how david stern does things he wants his players competing in it but it it a good idea.

Another small guy to enter could be Mike Taylor. If James enters the contest in 2010 he will win, cus like whiteflash said, the judges will be blowing him for sure.

Sh@#t, I forgot about Taylor. He’s got some nice bounce too. And like we’re saying if James enters everyone else might as well stay home. The judges already gave him the W.

I think the dunkers from outside the NBA would put on a better show. They could have NBA vs. Streetballers vs. Rest of World (Euroleague, etc.). The NBA has tons of guys that can jump out of the gym, but many of them are far more effective dunking in games than in a dunk contest. The streetballers focus on dunking all day long and have far greater incentive to put on a show.

The judges need to be changed, the dunkers need to be changed. The contest has really gone downhill ever since VC won it. I think the panel of judges should be guys who have won the dunk contest before, or here’s an idea if you can’t have international players in the contest because its an NBA event, put those guys in the judges panel. If James White can’t make a team, he’d make a great judge, guys from the And 1 squad and the Globetrotters. I doubt they’d be biased towards any one player.
