    I’m a Duke fan, let’s start there.

The New Jersey Nets are interested in Coach K. I remember when LA wanted him and he denied him. What do you think? If he goes, who should they look to get? Jeff Capel? Jay Wright? Josh Pastner?

Coach K is almost like a legend in college bball (although I don’t know why as I don’t pay attention to college ball until recently and mainly focus on draft prospects).

He turned down the offer in LA to stay at Duke. Why would he even consider going to the Nets in such a bad situation now? I think Brook Lopez is the only Net that they should try to build on along with the high draft pick coming this year. Devin Harris is a good player, but I think he can give the Nets more values in a trade than on the team. Yi showed that he’s a decent starter at best (I liked Yi a lot but he had disappointed me so much that I feel he would never be a legit star in the NBA). The rest of the team consist of decent player at best. I don’t think any coach can help that situation. It would be painful for coach K to get this team anywhere in his first two seasons (if he’s going there). By the time the Nets acquire enough good players to win, coach K is probably fired and return to college game.

It doesn’t make sense for coach K to risk his legacy in college for a rebuilding situation that is at least 2 years away from being competitive.

He will be smart to stay at Duke.

I don’t know who they would go after but they would need to get a star coach quick because if not, they would lose a whole bunch of recruits.

i always wondered if johnny dawkins would be next in line at duke if coach k ever left but i guess thats why he left for stanford since it looked doubtful

Why would Coach K want to deal with NBA players. I don’t see many NBA players buying into his system, and to go to the Nets would not even be worth it. This is a no brainer for him, stay at Duke.

I wouldn’t be surprised if when coach K retires (yes retires, not leaves for NJN) Steve Wojakowski would be another guy in line for that job.

Coach K is going to be around for a good part of this decade, I think he will retire before he is 70. I think he retires in 5 or 6 years, but if he still loves what he is doing in 5 to 6 years then he should not retire if he does not want to. Joe Paterno is in his 80s and loves what he does, so age should not dictate when he should retire.

Yeah, I think coach K will be there for a few more years, the only thing that I can see that would make him leave would be health issues, but he is in his early 60’s and seems to be in pretty good shape and his team is in the top 10. Duke should use programs like Arizona and Oklahoma State as examples of what not to do with aging legend coaches.
