estebansfParticipantIt seems to me like Drummond is the better player of the two. Better physical tools, coordination, and reactions. Davis’ reactions just seem slow to me and I don’t know why, but he seems to me like a bust. Drummond has all the talent in the world to be Amare/Dwight Howard and the only maybe is attitude/ work ethic, which I think will come around. If he really didn’t want to work hard, he would have stayed in prep school, beating up on lesser-skilled players, and then going straight to the NBA. While they are differant types of players, Davis is more of a perimeter forward while Drummond plays down low more, which one would you take? I think it was today an NBA scout said Davis is the best power forward prospect he has seen in ages.

rileymcshea3ParticipantI think Davis could be a a valuable superstar on a team with a versatile forward like Derrick Williams so they could both me mismatches for the opposing teams.
BUT I think they both dont have a full position but Drummond will be a center in the NBA and Davis is a question mark to me because he could be a Durant on the wing and have more offesive potential but wouldnt be low on the block on defense where he could get more blocked shots and more rebounds

uknationParticipantDrummond has more bust potential because he rarely plays hard and has a low motor(every big man bust has had that weakness) He is a more skilled big that’s for sure(because he’s been a big man longer) but if you don’t always play hard you well never reach you’re potential. Davis has skill and a very high motor. Davis is more like Garnett and nothing like Durant though even though that’s who he wants to be. Right now his jumper is pretty weak and his handles are good but not Sf good.
If Drummond had Davis motor this wouldn’t even be a debate. On a side note a NBA scout sat through UK’s practice and said " Davis is the best freshman big man he has seen in a decade"

WizardofOzParticipantI’d take Drummond without thinking twice. Davis IMO is a little overrated as a prospect. He has no semblance of a back-to-the-basket game, and his face-up game needs work too. And I don’t see the supposed "guard-like skills" some scouts see. In the games I’ve seen of him (small sample size), he doesn’t seem very comfortable handling the ball. He’d prefer to throw an outlet pass rather than take it coast-to-coast, which is smart, because most big men don’t need to be dribbling from that far out, but that just limits his scoring options. When he played for his HS team (which sucked), he was allowed to be the primary ballhandler in a weak HS division. When he plays top competition, he’s no longer going to be able to handle the ball as well as he used to. Most of his scoring comes from his motor, putbacks, and assisted baskets. He’s the type of player who puts up sneaky numbers. By the end of the game you wont realize that he just dropped 25/15 with 5 blocks. He has a lot of potential on D but he needs to keep getting stronger. The word is that he’s put on 20 lbs in the offseason, which is good, but he stills has a lot of work to do. I think he’ll fill out on time because he has wide shoulders and a solid base. Big-time potential as a weakside shot-blocker.Drummond I feel can be a franchise PF/C. He’s more naturally talented than Davis. Even though Drummmond isn’t the most skilled around the basket, but he’s a huge target down low because of his height and 7’5" wingspan. He’s a quick, explosive leaper that can beat bigs off the dribble because of his handles and quick first step. He’s also a very good passer that can find people with flair and he’s a good outlet passer. I think he’ll be very good in the pick-&-roll. He needs to become more assertive though and know how to use his big body. He doesn’t play as dominate as he always should. His D needs some work to because he isn’t the rim protector his can be and plays with poor BBIQ on that end. Sometimes give lackadaisical effort, but going to the Big East will help him develop. The conference isn’t kind to young bigs, and maybe he’ll be pushed to try hard all the time. A lot of HS kids don’t always give it their all in HS, but the Big East might change that.I think both will be very good players, but I think Drummond is a franchise talent. Davis isn’t. He’s too raw offensively at the moment, and needs a lot more polish. Drummond needs more polish too, but he’s more naturally talented. I’ve seen some sites that have Barnes and Davis over him their mock draft, but I wouldn’t dream of taking Barnes or Davis over him. That’s like taking someone like Derozan over Wall. At some point special talent is special talent and you need to take it.0 - Posted on: Sat, 10/29/2011 - 2:12pm #605869

HaleParticipantI’ll take Drummond. He is much stronger, more athletic and can do everything Davis does. If his motor gets better he has it all.

omphalosParticipant@WizardofOz; I agree completely about Davis being overrated, I think he has good defensive potential, but not going to be a huge scorer on a winning team.

GrandmamaParticipantDrummond without question

kingoftheplaygroundParticipantthis could end up like Oden and Durant. I see big things from the both of them. If Drummond gives his best effort consistently this upcoming season I think he would have to be the clear choice as the better prospect. Its too hard to come by a quality big man in the league these days. Im not sure of any pf/c in the league who I could honestly say is some type of competition to Dwight Howard. In the good ol’ days there was Shaq, Hakeem, David Robinson, P-Ew and Mourning. Not to say that Davis is too far behind though. In no way do I think this kid is overated. He does it all on the court and on top of that he has the coordination of a guard but hes 6’10/6’11. Im confident that under Calipari’s tuteledge he will further develope his skills and show all us fans what scouts/gm’s have been raving since this kids senior year. Drummond gets the nod but Davis is not far behind.

IndianaBasketballParticipantDavis isn’t polished in the post, BUT you can just see the potential he has on the block. He has that kind of motor you love in big men. He’s hungry and is active on the glass. He’ll be the type of player that you don’t always have to run plays for, which means he’ll be able to play with other great players. And then he’s a great athlete, runs the floor like a deer… Just a lot to like tools wise.
Defensively, is where I love him though. He’ll be a great helpside defender and he’ll be great defending the pick and roll. He can defend the perimeter. I really do see the KG comparisons at the defensive end.
IF this kid can put it together, he’ll be great. And by the look of his shoulders, etc he looks like he’ll fill out too.

scoutguruParticipantI really wanna get in on this debate…but I’ll reserve judgement ’til I see these guys play on the court. All that HS stuff means nothing now. This is big time D-1 ball now, lets see how they adjust.

uknationParticipantYeah the college season is gonna be very telling. Most people who have seen Davis in a small sample size thinks he’s overrated but every scout that has watched him during this past summer going up against Sullinger,Robinson and other college bigs all say he is the truth. Alot of H.S kids don’t play very hard in H.S and those same players end up doing the same in college and the pro’s. The best of the best have that motorfrom H.S on. I don’t recall ever reading abut Bird,Magic,Jordan not having great motors on any of the three levels. There are times where Drummond will let a 6’5 guy post him up make a move and score without him really trying to block the shot like he doesn’t even care

JNixonParticipantI haven’t seen either play alot, but Im taking Drummond every time as of now. His motor isn’t great right now, butI definitely think that’ll improve. The reason guys are busts because of a lack of aggression, is because they never become aggressive. I think it’ll come with time. I have a feeling it will. And plus he has the look of a franchise C already physically and athletically. Davis is a PF really, and I’ll take a potential franchise C over a PF anyday.

TheLastWordParticipantAnyone that responds Davis needs to be dragged out to the back yard and be put down like Old Yeller.
