 It does seem pretty amazing now. So long was spent talking about he and Davis as the top two and then his stock plummeted and now, it’s once again looking like they’ll be th best two players from their draft.

I think Drummond’s ceiling when it comes to Free Throws is 55%… He won’t ever be a great FT shooter in my opinion. It’s a shame. If he could be, he’d average 25 and 15.

Detroit handled him perfectly. They brought him along slowly last year, built up his confidence and than put him in more meaningful situations as they year went along. Now he gets to be himself, where at U-Conn he couldn’t be.

The players I really wanted when the Cavs drafted Dion Waiters were Beal, Drummond, Jeremy Lamb, and Evan Fournier. I would’ve been content with Barnes or Rivers.

Beal was gone. Fournier would’ve required trading down. That left Barnes, Drummond, Lamb, and Rivers.

People in Cleveland, on sports radio and on message boards, including the media, really did not want Drummond. They couldn’t understand why a No. 4 overall pick would be used on a guy who can’t make FTs and only averaged 10 points in college. It’s amazing how little foresight some people have. He was young for his class and reminded me a lot of a young Amare Stoudemire.

I didn’t mind the Waiters pick terribly because I didn’t like the idea of having people standing around watching Kyrie. I saw that for seven years with LeBron. I wanted to accumulate players who were able to create offense and were not dependent on one person. I just hoped he could improve his shot selection.

In retrospect, I did want Drummond and I thought his potential was through the roof and the naysayers were clueless, but at the same time, I liked that Waiters could play both guard spots and could score in bunches. But Drummond can create his own offense too; on the offensive glass!

We were all surprised at how far Lamb fell. We all thought the Warriors lucked out with Barnes falling into their lap — especially in the playoffs. But since then, not so much.

The interesting thing to me is that the Kings could’ve had Lillard at five but instead took Thomas Robinson…but wound up getting the Pizza Man in the second!

If he stayed ( What NBA might change it to) for his sophomore year to play another season at Uconn, he probably wouldn’t be developing at such a rapid rate, and basically waist a year there.

If he came out of highschool( The old rule) he probably would have been drafted in top 5 based off his size and athleticism alone. Maybe get some minutes but probably already called a bust the before all star break.

That is what really angered me about the Waiters pick…  you can get an undersized scoring guard anywhere!  They are available all over the league!  There are VERY few athletic freaks on Drummond’s level.  At the top of the draft you take the chance on greatness.
