So I heard an interesting comment today…one of my friends thinks that Nerlens Noel has improved his draft stock more than anybody in the tourney so far, simply because he hasn’t played. It seems like the big names haven’t really played well in the tourney, or have just underwhelmed a bit. Marcus Smart and Otto Porter were first round outs, McLemore still looks kinda passive, Muhammad took like 20 shots to get to 18 points (and he may be 20 years old or close to it if rumors turn out to be true), yeah…I could go on.

So here’s my question: do you think Noel becomes the #1 pick now simply because most of these guys haven’t had great tournament showings?

Been saying he’s worth the number one pick.
    .
Why not name the thread: ‘Nerlens Noel draft stock’

He really wasn’t all that impressive this year. I mean he is a good passer nut that’s because he has no moves and his first instinct is to kick it to the open man. I guess based on defense and potential he could go 1. But his stock is really being helped by Simply not playing and letting all the other candidates look really average. I could see vets like Burke and olynyck move up based on the fact that they can contribute right away.

find it interesting though, there are quite a few people debating noel as a top pick now. my buddy was saying the same thing about his draft stock rising.

If drafted in the lottery, he will get a GM fired.

    fire Kahn,

I said that Noel would benefit the most before the tourney started.

I think it has helped Jeff Withey and Adrien Payne. 2 mobile bigs who can block shots and
    have some experience.

It looks like one of those years where the Raptors get the first pick.

I think oladipo’s draft stock has risen and will continue to rise if Indiana can keep winning……

In just a few months he has gone from middle to late first rounder, now into lotto contention. Who knows he may even end up in the top 5.

Yeah…I missed the other (2) threads about this, my bad, lol.

This has just been a crazy tournament. I’m LOVING FGCU, by the way. Not from a draft standpoint, just cause it’s awesome to see a 15 seed get further than ever before. GO FGCU! I don’t even care if they screw over my bracket any further, haha

Noel is getting praise because Kentucky struggled even worse after he left, which made people exaggerate how he was playing before the injury. That and every top prospect playing like crap is leading to selective memory of what Noel was actually doing. What they seem to be forgetting is he’s still a skinny, weak player who relies strictly on his athleticism to produce and will be coming off an injury that is going to hamper that athleticism for a while.

I would not take Noel with #1. Not only is he coming off of an injury, but he never has displayed any sort of promise of being a solid offensive contributor. Bigs that can only contribute on defense tend to scare me.

Only contribute on defense? that’s retarded.
He fills the lanes, when he gets fed inside off dumpoffs he knows how to finish, even using timely fakes before reverse dunking it and whatnot. gets them offensive rebounds. He’s actually a good rebounder, even more so considering the fact he contest almost every inside shot. He’s a good passer, a PF/C freshman that has shown the ability to lead a fast break at ridiculous speeds.
      .
Would he be selected number 1 based on defense? Yes. Can he ONLY contribute on defense? No.
Bigs like that take time to develop. Give him the time Mason Plumlee or Olynyk have had and he would be having truly monster seasons.

I don’t see an Amare Stoudemire comparison. I don’t. Amare has touch around the rim, a good ball handler for a big and has a decent mid range game.

Noel has no way of scoring at a consistent clip. He can’t put it on the floor and he can’t play with his back to the basket. Andre Drummond was also raw at this stage, but he showed signs of developing an offensive repetoire. He would score in bunches at the High School level including against Isaiah Austin and Mcgary. Noel has never been able to do that type of scoring as of yet.

Where in my post did i compare Noel to Amare???????????????????
            .
I said he knows how to finish inside like Amare did in the video

There should be some legitimate concerns about Noel. A. He has a torn ACL. B. He isn’t a very good offensive player. I like him as a fill-in-the-blanks defensive guy, but as your franchise superstar? I just don’t see it.
