 So, everyone obviously has opinions about who should be picked above who.  I know I’ve certainly been right on a number of occasions.  But, looking back, I’ve noticed that a couple of my picks would have been massive failures.  A few of them were what actually happened, and a few of them did not.  I’d like to hear what picks people on this board would have made that might have got them fired if they had been the GM of that team.  Here are a few of mine:

2004 – I would have picked Okafor at #1 over Dwight.  Okafor was dominant in college and seemed like a safer pick.  I figured people were just enamored with a high school prospect after Lebron went #1 the year before. I shocked myself with this one as I typically take upside over a sure thing.

2007 – I too would have taken Oden over Durant.  Oden was supposed to be a once in a generation center.

2007 – This one kills me, but I wanted the Bulls to take Spencer Hawes or Brandon Wright (Wright happened to be off the board by then anyways) over Noah.  Hated Noah in college, as did many, but love him now.

2008 – Even worse, I would have been totally fine flipping a coin in 2008 to decide between Rose and Beasley, while leaning towards Beasley.  Durant had just dominated college basketball offensively as a freshman and Beasley followed suit (granted in a much different way).  I would have been booted out the door if I had taken Beasley.

2011 – I thought Charlotte should have taken Jimmer over Kemba at number 9.  Thought Jimmer might be more of a sure thing.

 

Like I said, I certainly have made some good judgement calls in the past, but wanted to air out some of my bad ones.  What moves would have got you fired?

2008-If I was the Wolves I would’ve kept Mayo instead of trading for Love

2008-I would’ve taken Donte Green at 24 instead of Serge Ibaka (OKC is lucky not to have me holy sh*t)

2009-With the 30th pick I would’ve taken Justin Harper for the Bulls instead of Jimmy Butler and Josh Selby with their next pick instead of Malcolm Lee (not firable but pretty terrible)

I would’ve have taken Klay Thompson anywhere near where he was taken. I would’ve reached on Tony Wroten in the lottery. I might have taken Tyreke or Harden over Blake Griffin…the list goes on and on. This is just off the top of my head.

In 98 I would have taken Larry Hughes #8 over the next two guys off the board, Dirk and Pierce.

In 2006 I had Adam Morrison over LaMarcus Aldridge

I was prepared to reach for Bismack Biyombo at number 4 instead of Tristan Thompson. Thought his defensive presence would be near the top of the league and his offense would come along. I’d still be waiting for both of those to happen.

2009 Ricky Rubio at #2 ahead of James Harden and Stephen Curry – Had been following Rubio for a while and thought he was the next Magic.
2008 I also had Beasley over Rose.
