I’m curious to hear about draft picks that you thought were gonna be awesome NBA players but they never made it. Who were some of your biggest dissapointments? I’m sure we all could make an entire page on guys we thought would make it, so let’s try to just pick a few that stood out to us.

To me, being a UCLA fan, I thought Jerome Moiso was gonna be a stud. He was 6-11, athletic, could shoot and was silky smooth. Seeing as how he went in the lottery, I obviously was not alone in thinking highly of him. So what are some of your guy’s picks?

Anthony Roberson (Florida)

I saw all these players play in person a couple times each and I thought they would all be very good in the nba. McCants is going to turn it around though and have a big year next season I think depending on which team signs him.

Gerald Green…I saw the HS McDonald’s Game…i though i saw a superstar but i was wrong. I hope the Knicks add him to turn his career around.

wow yall really thought forte or mosio or haslip were gonna be real good?…i can understand if ya’ll were just fans of them which would make youre thinking highly of them skewed like mine when i though glenn robinson would be one of the gretest ever. i knew mosio and haslip were gonna be out of the leauge and rote i figured would bee a back up because i knew he couldnt play point too well and his game was built for college…..i did think gerald green would be very good by now though b ut thats what i get for predicting how a player is gonna be just by watching all star games…which is the main reason im not jumping on the john wall bandwagon just yet

who hasnt been wrong…saying you cant believe ya’ll thought so and so was gonna be good isnt talking down on someone by the way..people say that to me sometimes about me being wrong about something and vice versa..the difference is i dont get my feelings hurt over it and neither do they because we all understand its opnions..we state them then we move on or we give facts or strong opnions on why we think this or that way…like with some of these players i just cant understand how some of the people could have thought this or that player was gonna be good when they didnt do much in college even if they were the tallest quickest strongest most athletic player playing.

trust me, my feelings are’nt hurt. I just find it funny that you think some of us are’nt very smart for thinking guys like Moiso and or Haislip were gonna be good when you consider that they were both lottery picks. Obviously they had something going for them.

no the not smart comment was in a different fourm abotu shooting percentage..this one is about how i dont understand why there was such high hopes by fans for haslip and mosio…actually there wasnt real high hopes for either as far as anything more then a good nba player…where was haslip drafted anyway i dont recall much hope for him/…but like i said fan picks get a pass because if we are fans of someone we sometimes dont think reality

True, I’m a UCLA fan. But I feel I’m usually pretty realistic when evaluating players. I obviously look crazy now, but since I strated watching the Brunis in ’95, I thouht Moiso was one of the 2 or 3 best prospects I had ever seen from UCLA. Baron Daivis was clearly #1, and Love and Westbrook were high on the list. But what was it about Moiso that you thought was wrong with him? He was 6-11, very athletic. Could shoot out to 18 feet. Ran the floor was dunking on people and blocking shots. It turns out he did’nt play with much passion, but when he left as a sophomore, a lot of people thought he was gonna be good, not just Bruin fans.

you just said it..the passion part…i thought he was ok at the rest of the stuff but his passion wasnt that great and the nba was/is full of guys that could do the things he could do..when i watch/scout a guy for what ever team im playing for in europe i also look at the lil things because the game is full of guys who are tall athletic can shoot or dribble..and passion/how hard they go is a very big component..i learned a long time ago that you have to have the lil things or something extra in order to succeed

Haislip has been tearing it up overseas. He could easily be back in the NBA and averaging double digits for sure.

yeah haislip plays in unicaja spain and he is the franchise player,i think he could play in the nba he is very versatile and athletic,moiso plays in spain aswell he isnt doing that great though all he really does is dunk off rubio assists he is very explosive though

DerMarr Johnson. He had all the tools. I also thought Erick Barkley was going to be what Derrick Rose is now. MAN was I wrong

was supposed to be good as a 2nd big man but weight and knee issues look like they may end his career. Hes a FA now unless some team signs him

I too thought Green was going to be really good. I wish he would’ve gone to Oklahoma State and then maybe he would’ve learned to play some defense. I also really liked Tyrus Thomas when he came out. Watching him and Big Baby at LSU, I definately thought Thomas was going to have a much better NBA career than Big Baby. Guess I was wrong. Also thinking back from a long time ago, one of my all-time disappointments is still Bryant “Big Country” Reeves. I really thought he had the size, the post skills, the rebounding, and a nice shot to be really good, at least a solid center in the NBA for many years. But he just couldn’t keep himslef from eating and not working out in the off-season. Going back to his ranch instead of working on his game. He just didn’t have the same desire that he did at Oklahoma State, where he was so good he lead his team to the final four in a year where they beat Wake Forest (which had Tim Duncan and Randolph Childress), Alabama (which had Antonio McDyess) and UMass (which had Marcus Camby) in the tournament. I’ll also add Ed O’Bannon from that same year who was amazing leading UCLA to a championship that year.

no Marcus Haislip wasnt tearing it up when they played euroleauge games (which are very very tough) he averaged 10pts and 4reb..but he did average 15 and 5 reb in the span leauge..he cant seem to do that against nba players though because when he does come and workout for teams against some of the better players he doesnt do the same things because the players hes going against are better….he’s pretty good where hes at…a good euro player
