The 2003 class with LeBron, Carmelo, Wade, Bosh, and a good shot blocker in Milicic (doing my best to make Darko sound adequate) had the best overall talent with the top 5 selected picks. Haha three of them are on the same team! Who could have predicted that?

The 2006 class was the weakest in terms of overall talent with the top 5 picks selected, having Aldridge, Bargnani, Tyrus Thomas, Morrison and Sheldon Williams. That 2006 is such a painfully weak draft that more than half of the players selected are no longer in the league. Even the weak link of Darko Milicic in the 2003 draft is a better player than Thomas, Morrison and Williams.

The 2nd most intriguing class in terms of talent is the 2008 class with Rose, Westbrook, Love, Beasley and Mayo. Each player has starting talent and 3 of them are part of the next NBA wave of stars.

Now all of this brings us to the 2012 draft. Anthony Davis is most likely the top pick. Kidd-Gilchrist, Thomas Robinson, Andre Drummond, Bradley Beal, Harrison Barnes, and perhaps Perry Jones III (someone might take a chance with him) are the likely candidates for the next 4 spots.

So my question is what is the realistic outlook for the top 5 picks in the 2012 draft? While some may say that it wont be near that of 2003 or 2008, nobody forsaw that Wade, Bosh, Westbrook and Love would be the players that they are today. So yeah I understand that this is total speculation but I’m curious as to what all of my fellow users think as well.

The top 5 from this draft is probably Davis, Drummond, Rivers, PJ3 and because I’m undecided I’m going to say tied at 5 is out of Beal/Barnes/Wroten. I might get some flak for that but I am going to risk it. If I’m wrong, I’m wrong but I have faith I’m not.

You would consider picking Wroten in the top 5? LOL. Davis will probably be the first pick and then Drummond, MKG, Barnes and Beal in no particular order.

Top 5: Davis, Drummond, Robinson, MKG, Beal.

I think this draft is as good as 1996, 2003 and 2008.  Just my opinion.

Oh shit I completely forgot about Robinson…my bad. Had to neg myself for that one. I’d replace either Beal or Barnes with him on that list. Too hard to decide between the two of them.

Might not get the LeBron and D Wade types this year, but the overall average of the Top 5 should be good.  LeBron’s year is one of the best because LeBron was basically a sure thing, then you had Carmelo Anthony who everyone thought would be a 20 point scorer and a very good player, another sure thing, but maybe not a superstar like LeBron.

The 2003 draft worked out great because D Wade turned into a superstar.  Then Bosh has had a very good career.  Darko didn’t do anything but Chris Kaman and some others have had solid careers.

I think that it’s possible that the top 5 gives us one superstar (probably Davis, but Drummond, Perry Jones, and Drummond have an outside shot), three all stars, and another good player.  Then that would make this drafts one of the best ever even if we don’t see 3 or 4 superstars from this draft.

Other great drafts have good depth.  I think there will be some solid players picked outside the top 10 or 15 so that would be another good thing.  There might be a second round steal or two, but maybe not.  But there should be at least 2 or 3 guys who at least make a rotation.

    1.) Anthony Davis

    2.) Micheal Kidd-Gilchrist

    3.) Thomas Robinson

    4.) Bradley Beal

    5.) Andre Drummond

This will be a deep draft but nowhere the talent level of the 03 Draft….I think some of the best talent will come later in this draft because some of these lottery pick are just toss ups, going purely on expected potential…There are some talented upperclassmen but, they are going to be overlooked because of the Freshman hype………..

    1) Davis

    2) Robinson

    3) Barnes

    4) Drummond

    5) MKG

I only see one guy who has the potential to turn into a perennial All Star in Drummond, either that or he’s a bust. Davis ‘s career will mainly be as a shotblocking big who is athletic and can run the floor, ala Marcus Camby. MKG will be a glue guy who can be a lockdown defender but has an inconsistent shot who is a starter but is limited outside his athleticism and driving ability. Robinson will be a solid pro but nothing more. Never a double double guy but more of a 12 and 8 guy. Last but not least Harrison Barnes will be the most solid pro out of all of them because of his pure shooting ability. He’ll compliment Kyrie’s game and become a better player because of Kyrie. May make the allstar team in the future but more of a solid pro for years to come. A player very similar to Luol Deng but with a better shooting stroke.
