Lotto StudParticipantDonovan Mitchell is a 21-year-old rookie. In other words, he is not even on the tier with guys that are in his age range if you actually analyze his argument of being the Rookie of the Year. He’s just a late bloomer that’s doing what he’s supposed to do which is make an impact.

ChewyParticipantisn’t about age. It is about adjusting to the NBA pace, style of play and lifestyle (travel/workout/game schedule). No matter what your age is, there is an adjustment period. Mitchell has adjusted very quickly.

Lotto StudParticipantAge plays a factor in development just like his argument is that Simmons sat a year and soaked up the game. Mitchell is doing what he’s supposed to be doing as a 21-year-old.

ChewyParticipantage and development don’t grow together on a linear path. Players make huge jumps in one summer. Others stagnate for years. There is no such thing as what a 19,21,23 yr old "should be able to do."

Lotto StudParticipantQuick question for all who slights Ben Simmons; was Donovan Mitchell not a freshmen in college the same year as every guy listed above with the exception of Russell and Turner?
If age isn’t an outlier, then why wasn’t he an one-and-done prospect?

OhCanada-ParticipantSee I think being a rookie is about playing NBA basketball against NBA basketball players in regular season games throughout a season. Until you put on your sneakers and play against these guys your a rookie. Next year Harry Giles is going to be a rookie plain and simple. You can travel, go to all the best clubs and restaurants, meet Drake and Kevin Hart and all that nonsense but what are we really talking about here? Basketball.

Lotto StudParticipantChris Weinke shouldn’t be a Heisman Trophy winner either; I take it?

whiteflashParticipantThis is truly one of the dumbest threads in the history of this site, and that’s saying something.

Reptilian MonkParticipantMitchell is doing what he is supposed to as a rookie? He is suppose to be leading his team with 28 ppg to being up in a playoff series on a team with a former Mvp and possibly 3 hall of fame players? That shouldn’t be expected from Michael Jordan as a rookie, Mitchell was the 13th pick. Kid is playing at a historically great level as a rookie, repsect.

Lotto StudParticipantInterpretation is everything. You took from it what you wanted to from that statement. If you are a player in the running for being the Rookie of the Year; playing above-average isn’t nothing out of the norm. Has he taken his game to a new height? Yes! But again, he’s doing what he’s supposed to be doing.

whiteflashParticipantDude, you have absolutely no idea of what you’re talking about and are making yourself look progressively more foolish with each post. Let it go.

ZachAttackParticipantWhy the heck are we still talking about this?
0 - Posted on: Tue, 04/24/2018 - 9:49pm #1115862

OhCanada-ParticipantWhy exactly is 21 old for a rookie? Very few 1st year players in the NBA are 20 and younger not everyone is a 1st round one and done pick.

Jean_31ParticipantWhat the heck do you mean by he is doing what he is supposed to be doing ? I dont know every guy that played 2 years in college is supposed to dominate in their first year in the league? Every 13th pick is supposed to play like an all-star? Every 21 year old guy is supposed to lead their team to second round ?

JoeWolf1Donovan Mitchell was one of 5 guys to average at least 20 ppg 3.5 rpg 3.5 apg and hit at least 175 three poitners. One of 5! The others? James Harden, Damian Lillard, Steph Curry, and Brad Beal! If that kind of company is what you expect of every 21 year old who steps on an NBA court, then I don’t know what to tell you.
Want to know how many 21 year olds have achieved that kind of statline in the history of the NBA? one. Donovan Mitchell.
