I don’t know about you guys, but I love tough defensive minded teams like: today’s Celtics, 2004 championship Pistons, the Detroit Bad Boys, etc.

The Pistons have gone a long way from the "Bad Boys" of the 90’s and even the Billups/Hamilton/Prince/Wallace/Wallace Pistons. If they have the opportunity to draft Biyombo, it’d give them a chance to return to their glory days when they had their defensive reputation. A player like this doesn’t come very often. Biyombo in my opinion has a lot of Ben Wallace to his game.. sort of an undersive center, shot blocker, VERY raw offensively, and also a great rebounder with tons of potential. He’s the type of player who has a great chance of winning multiple defensive player of the years awards, and championships on the right team surrounded by the right players.

Pairing him up alongside Greg Monroe, a player who showed a lot of upside in his rookie season, could be a deadly front court in the years to come.

    What do you guys think?

There is speculation that he is a lot older than he is admitting too. While he may be the defensive prescense he may develop offensively and could be a huge bust. However because of the uncertainty with pretty much all the bigs he may be off the board before then  or he maybe available to the pistons.

I dont think i’d call it slipping to 8, thats kind of a reach IMO.

I agree with providence.  He wouldn’t "slip" into the 8th spot.. More like REACHING at 8

with a weak draft there is going to be some busts…. i would not be rolling the dice on relatively unproven biyombo and kanter (2nd pick?)

As a pistons fan im not real excited – last year was good as we were looking at monroe and ed davis, both of whom looked like good pros

im from detroit and as a pistons fan, I HOPE THEY DO NOT DRAFT bismack biyombo…this guy has just been overhyped because of one good game he had in the nike hoop summit…there has been plenty of those guys who have just gone to the nba to be a bust…so the pistons need to draft a sure thing who has upside who can improve this team now and in the future..not the bust in waiting biyombo.

    "What do you guys think?"

A player cannot be Ben Wallace unless he can not only block shots, but be solid positionally, take charges, and not commit fouls. Biyombo is a shot blocker, not a defender. Dumb people don’t grasp the difference, but then again JaVale McGee got Defensive Player of the Year votes while playing for a team that couldn’t stop anyone so I know I am fighting a losing battle here. I also know that the list of shot blockers who were supposed "NBA ready" because of that skill is long and full of bums (Whiteside, Alabi, Sanders, Udoh, Thabeet, S. Williams, Armstrong, C. Simmons, Dorsey, and Seraphin). It is only made worse when thinking about the shot blocking projects who didn’t go elsewhere for seasoning (Ajinca, Sene, Orton, and S. Jones).

I know a lot of Timberwolves fans who are hoping Biyombo falls to 8.
