I’m not gonna lie, I’m a bit concerned about the Knicks.

Phil was on an ESPN show called "Mike & Mike" this morning, and sounded like he’s in complete denial over where the NBA is headed. Plus his "pitch to free agents" was mumbly and made little sense to me. Now, it was pretty early in the day though, so hopefully Phil was just, like, totally stoned, or something.

BTW, "Mike & Mike" certainly don’t seem very knowledgable about basketball. For instance, the big one kept calling Anthony Davis "the NBA’s best CENTER". And the other (medium-sized) Mike couldn’t remember anybody’s name without looking at a sheet.

At any rate, are we sure Phil is "up to the task" (of rebuilding the Knicks)? Or is he too "out of touch"/delusional to be trusted? Personally, I’m starting to worry.

Oh, and please comment (even if it’s something spiteful) … I don’t have cooties.

I think that Phil will be able to fix the Knicks. He’s a pretty smart man although he was an overrated coach. I think he’ll fix them. Also, I like it how you keep bringing up the fact that you’re a girl and that everyone seems to be scared of you now since you’re a girl.

I am getting concerned with Phil’s ego, and his obsession with the tri-angle offense.

The rule of thumb is to draft the best player available and build your team around the talents you have.. not the other way around.  Knicks have Carmelo and a #4 pick (Russel or Mudiay), and they have $28m cap space, so they should be able to construct a roster that’s good enough to compete in East.

However, Phil’s very ego-centric (rightfully so, especially after you’ve won 13 rings…), so he might over-think this and select the wrong player.  I hope he doesnt, and we only have to wait a few more days to find out what he’s made out of.

Knicks fans have been very patient on Phil, but he needs to deliver on Thursday (and during the free agency), or he’ll be sitting on a hot seat very soon!

I really don’t have any faith in him restoring the Knicks to any sort of glory. I’m not knocking anything he has done in the past, I just don’t think he will make the Knicks a good basketball team. I personally believe that as long as Dolan owns the team they will be desinted to be mediocre at best.

I was never a fan of Phil Jackson running the Knicks.  He gifted Tyson Chandler to Dallas and Shumpert and Smith to the Cavs.  Even if they end up with Okafor or Russell they won’t even be close to contending.  I don’t see any top free agents going to New York when there are other options.  They could get Greg Monroe but he’s not a good defender.  A team of Melo, Russell and Monroe wouldn’t be a contender.

That is so unfair. I’ve brought it up, like, twice, actually. At the most.

However, yes, I must confess I too have noticed a weird sorta "vibe" suddenly surrounding my posts. And naturally I would really prefer to be treated just like everyone else.

So thank you so much for commenting. That was very sweet of you.

You actually talk more trash than most of the others…I think its partly a New York thing. I’m down with that though.

The Skinny Mike is sorta knowledgable, although was never an athlete. But the Fat Mike is more knowledgable about football.

As for Phil….I think he’s lost touch with the X’s and O’s but his greatest strength was always managing egos, which I still believe he’s the Zen Master.

Considering I’ve made such an effort to suppress that urge. Seeing as, in the past, people have told me that, on occasion, I can "come on extremely strong" and be "really quite obnoxious", actually.

Since my OP, I’ve seen "Mike & Mike" a couple more times. And I must say, sadly, that the show still doesn’t do anything for me. However, nothing personal against them. They both seem very nice. Though I guess maybe that’s part of the problem.

P.S. I feel absolutely awful about the complete bloodbath your past few threads became. And if, in any way at all, my comments contributed to that unpleasantness, I truly apologize. So please don’t be too mad at me.

    1) A questionable commitment on Phil’s part.

    2) An idiotic obsession with the "triangle".

    3) A (largely) talentless roster depleted by years and years of poor management.

Not exactly a "recipe for success" … at least not in the short-term. Which then leads to the obvious question of how long Phil plans to stick around.

Lets hold off on this until after the draft…

It’s unfari to question Phil’s committment to the team, he does move to NY after all….

The talentless roster allows him to make this inprint this summer, so lets wait and see which free agents he can net this off season.

My biggest concern is that… he might select the wrong kid w/ our 4th pick. I don’t and will not accept trading down to later in the draft because talent drop off is too great from #4 to #10.  I think if Mudiay is there, you almost HAVE to take the kid.  IMHO, Mudiay is a better prospect than Russel, and can become the best player out of this draft.  Phil said that we need someone to attack the basket, create opportunities to other guys… who can do that better than Mudiay in this draft?  I think and feel that Mudiay is our guy… and i will walk away extremely happy on thursday.

NY is probably the harshest climate in the league and the Knicks are looking to win ASAP.   If Towns, Okafor and Russell are off the board, think the Knicks go with the "safe pick" Winslow.

(Even the ones who have negged me to death.) Because I kinda have this phobia of starting threads, and almost never ever do so (even on the forums of the company I work for). So had nobody replied, I would have been completely mortified. And probably, like, died of embarrassment or something.

    So thank you again, guys/gals.

    Meanwhile, to clarify:

I was just sorta summing up my thoughts (based on what others had stated), shootingstar11. In no way meant to suggest that the Jacksonian era is over, having ended in utter failure.

Oh, and Cyclo, when you say "climate", you mean the media climate, right? Not, like, the actual weather?

He might possibly be the Mike Holmgren of the NBA: championship-pedgree coach, but lousy President/GM.

I actually never had much faith in Phil as a GM with the Knicks.

He is as unproven as anyone in the frontoffice, first thing he did was shipping out Tyson Chandler and then hiring Fish who I always liked as a leader and clutch performer as a player but is also a rookie coach and clearly Phils puppy. I actually don’t really know if Fish did himself a favor coming to the Big Apple where everyone is expecting THE turnaround soon.

Then there is the triangle which is not exactly unproven in the NBA but has not been player for a decade and this is alarming to me. I just read an article about KG/Towns someone linked here and when Nash and the Suns took over back then, this really changed everything. Pop said from 2005 but definetly 2007 his teams changed A LOT from what they have done before with Manu, Tony and Tim in other roles. Same goes for the Mavs, Heat and a lot of other teams.

All in all what they are trying to do there in NY is not proven at all nowadays. It doesn’t help either, that they think none of their former players seemed to fit the needs for this system and they shiped them out for what exactly??? #4 pick and a ton of cap space in a summer where they don’t find any big names cause there are a lot more question marks then answers not only with the roster

Who honestly believes LMA or Marc Gasol want to be part of something like that, play for coach Fish and then there is Melo… I don’t really expect anything from this guys or at least anything good. They threw everything out of the window and we’ll how patient this city is going to be.

As a Knicks fan my trust and belief in Phil to run the franchise will be what he does Thursday. Assuming Towns, Okafor, and Russell are all gone there is no sure-fire pick. Probably between Winslow, Porzingas, and Mudiay. Winslow is probably the safest as the other two are slightly riskier. I like all three, probably Winslow and Mudiay slighlty more, but to see which way he goes could go a long way.

Also, if Phil picks Kaminsky at 4 or even trades back and picks him, I have given up on him and will go cry and prepare for another brutal season.

its way too early to judge him or fisher. The knicks are in real bad shape and need a complete overhaul that wont come overnight. Hard to install the triangle offense and get things turned around with some of the guys they are trotting out there on the court on a nightly basis. I have faith in him.

I’m not sold on the Knicks become a contender for the following reasons.

    1. James Dolan

    2. Phils obsession with always using the triangle. Have to adjust the system to the players you have. They really should consider Mudiay, but he doesn’t fit into a triangle offense at all. He needs to be in a pick and roll offense.

    3. Roster just doesn’t have much talent besides Melo.

Hes done a great job this off season. Great drafting on paper at least, solid yet unspectacular signings and a direction for the team moving forward. The Knicks will eventually be a playoff team under his guidance.
