David Stern a.k.a. da muthaf@cking leader of da kryptsParticipantDrummond obviously rised his stock in the past week or so and in my eyes he is the 2nd best prospect this year. He has guard-type mobility at 6”10”. But do you think Jordan would go for him? I mean he must be having nightmares about Kwame Brown right now. Drummond has huge potential but he’s also a risk. Do you think the Bobcats go with him or a safer pick like Barnes, MKG or TRob?
I personally think they are going to draft Barnes. He showed nice results athletically and measured well and he fits the Bobcats well as they desperately need…well…everything.

ChewyParticipantPicks 2-6 really can go in just about any order and it would be justified. Me personally I would take Drummond at 2. He has the highest potential and it is going to take him 2-3 years to develop that potential. That means two more lottery picks that can join Kemba-Biyombo-Drummond.
I say go for it, Charlotte needs to take chances in an attempt to get a STAR not a starter.

surveParticipantI would…but I dont think Charlotte will.

CAROLINA BLUE NICKParticipantI agree with you. Ever since the lottery was finalized I thought the bobcats would go after Barnes. They need scoring right away. Drummond is very tempting but raw bigs like Drummond take longer to develop. I would go with the safer pick and draft Barnes.

Professor RozayParticipantI think the bobcats should take T-Rob. But they are tryi ng to build a team and Drummond can be a good player to add to a young team. He is raw and they can wait for him to develop. So I don’t see anything wrong with taking him or Barnes with this pick.

AstroParticipantI know Barnes measured out well, but I just don’t seem him as a #2 pick (or actually, given MJ’s record as a GM, maybe I do.)
It’s still the same guy I watched in the ACC and the NCAAs – his ability to create (and make) his own shot is highly erratic. Sometimes he looks All-NBA and sometimes he looks like dogmeat. Given his combine results I can only assume he lacks the handle to create comfortably.
I was rooting for him this entire season but he simply did not make the sale at the end.

TripleDoubleScoutParticipantI think the bobcats will take drummond, but not at pick two…;)

CoolidgerParticipantI don’t think Drummond is the right choice for the Bobcats. I like his potential and I want to see him succeed, and he’s certainly a physical specimen to behold, but I think theres a few reasons the Bobcats should look at someone else.
1. Michael Jordan has made the mistake of taking the potential filled big man in the past only to see it fail before (See Brown, Kwame). While I don’t think Drummond will fall as low as Kwama Brown, there are certainly safer picks here who could all pan out as well, and Bobcats fans know full well the history of Jordan and Kwame (They had Kwame Brown under contract last year). If this pick was a few spots lower, i’d go for it, but this is the number 2 pick in a loaded draft class, so theres still a bit of risk this high up, and considering the questions surrounding Andre Drummonds motor, I wonder if being drafted 2nd would be too much pressure.
2. The Bobcats had one of, if not the worst season of all time last year. I’m sure their fans and franchise are losing hope and I think they need an impact player here more then a potential guy, even if Drummond has the upside to be the second best player in this draft, it’s still a big "if" at this point. Even if Drummond does deliver on his upside however, the concensus seems to be that it wouldn’t be in year one, but that it will take a couple of seasons similar to Andrew Bynums emergence. If thats the case, then the Bobcats unless they hit a home run in free agency or with their second round pick (both of which seem unlikely), or a few players on this team show drastic improvement, this team will likely finish at the bottom of the league again, especially if they draft someone like Drummond who they’d have to wait on versus someone who could contribute right away like T-rob, MKG or Harrison Barnes. They won’t have many fans if they continue to lose games, and this team needs to show a sign of improvement soon to avoid both its fans and players losing hope in the organization. For that to happen, I don’t think they should draft someone they have to wait on over someone who should be able to help show signs, slight as they may be, of improvement over last season.
3. This team needs offense more then defense right now. Biyombo is already looking like he can be a good paint defender down the line, but he’s raw offensively. Another concensus about Drummond is in addition to him taking a while to mature, his offense is the biggest part of his game that needs a bit of work right now, or one of the biggest parts. He’s still slightly raw, and they already have one raw yet defensive big man they’re developing. This team needs someone who can score, their leading scorer from last year was Gerald Henderson, who averaged about 15 a game. Henderson is a role player more then anything else. This team struggled to put up 80 points a game on most night, they need someone with some offensive potential. Harrison Barnes would be able to help improve this and help them improve at a position they need some help at, and Robinson would be able to contribute some offensively as well.
I like Drummond, and I think it will be great for the league if he succeeds. Also, I think most teams would take him at second if it came down to it. The Bobcats though, unless they trade down, I think they should look at Harrison Barnes or Thomas Robinson over Andre Drummond in order to add some stability to a franchise surrounded by questions right now.

sheltwon3ParticipantAt one point Barnes was said to be the number 1 pick yet people think he would be bad as a number 2 pick. He has shone that in college he can be clutch and can shoot. He has shone at the combine that he is athletic and quicker than people gave him credit after losing weight. I mean what more does this guy have to do. They could have probably won the whole thing or at least competed with Kentucky if they were healthy.

JoeWolf1No, they drafted Bismack last year as well as acquiring B.J. Mullins. I don’t think Drummond is the BPA nor fits a specific team need. IF they do feel Drummond is the BPA, then I think he gets drafted and traded.
Jordan loves college stars and MKG, Barnes or Robinson seem to be more likely fits than Drummond.

HitsterParticipantDrummond has the most upside of anyone in the 2 to 5 range but I agree with Joe Wolf, they have Biyombo as a long term C so how do you fit Drummond in. I always liked Barnes for Charlotte but I’m beginning to come around to T-Rob, he may be a bit undersized but he seems like a winner and could well give their frontcourt starting an immediate lift. He could start from the off and could be a contender for ROY behind Davis.

lalailaParticipanti truly hope Drummond will be top2 player from the draft in two years..the kid just knows he is better than he was in college and wants to compete against other prospects what is rare for that type of raw draftees..
it’s not like PJ3 who couldn’t get i guess 15ppg and double double in HS and was a bench player in those allstar games..this Andre kid was dominant in HS even w/o being agrresive all the time he dominated everywhere he got competition liek adidas nations or pangos agains Isaiah Austin so hyped didn’t came from no where..he even avg like 14ppg 9rpg in three match-ups against Fab Melo…
so also hypes about being good ball-handler or having Divec like playmaking ability also didn’t came from nowhere at some point in his career with more freedom he will show it like for example Cousins is already showing in Sacramento that his hs skills wasn’t fake..
plus his defensive potential especially shotblocking is sooo overshadowed by Davis hypes if not AD Drummond would be i guess the best shot-blocker freshman in big conference since Hasheem Thabeet in’07 in same uconn
and that size nearly 7feet tall 7’6wings athleticism 280lbs body in good shape..he is too good to fail..while some people are afraid of him I actually believe he is one of a more sure fire picks with worst case of DeAndre Jordan with potential to be so much better

jaysmith1987ParticipantIf the bobcats dont take barnes or drummond they will blow this draft. The reason to take Barnes is because he can give you 20 a game on the bobcats. Lost in translation is Barnes is fundamentally sound and how quickly people forget he went one on one with Durant and held his own at Durants camp. Also people say he cant be a number one option well if you watched north carolina its clear roy williams made him buy into the system and because hes a good kid he did it. Barnes is one of those franchise players like a duncan a durant that will thrive in small markets and be professional. This guy averaged 17 a game as the third option in his offense he has solid fundementals and a nice j hes gonna be a good one a joe johnson type at worst.
Andre DrummOnd gives this team a really good option as well he and biyombo could end up as twin enforcers down low having a shot blocking partt. Both will be able to guard the 3-5 positions and both can rebound wich is what u need when yiu have the shooters the bobcats have. All they would need with drummond is a nice free agent to take scoring load.0 - Posted on: Tue, 06/12/2012 - 11:51am #680463

He was overrated, what can I say? They don’t all pan out. Does anyone remember Marcus Liberty (or am I showing my age here)?
(Obviously Barnes is better, but not all #1s coming out of HS deserve a high lottery pick.)
I’m not sure what it is frankly. Is it the ballhandling, or maybe just fluctuating confidence? The point remains that he’s erratic in the role of a go-to guy.
